You killed a T72 with sabot rounds?
1
She sure is pretty
1
The guitarist?
1
Absolutely
1
@matatron. Yeah that might very well be part of it. I don't know much about how they're accomplishing this Next level, for sure
1
I'd love to see an RWS turret with the bradley armed with a 3 barreled .50 Gatling gun and automatic reloading mussile launcher reminiscent of the Raketenjagdpanzer. Maybe with 10 javelins ready to go
1
@kentershackle1329 EW is a missile magnet
1
I would imagine the main reason to have gun launched missile would he in the defense, to be able to fire against ground targets and helicopters without having as much of a firing profile. Less flash and noise than the main gun. Obviously, in the offense, it would be impractical.
1
The AT fires the same M502 HEDP round as the M2 Gustav.
1
England can use all the money they will save to pay for the upkeep of all their new Pakistani and African "guests". It's all about keeping your priorities straight
1
It's in the video
1
The new laser guided AT rounds with 2000 meter range are going to potentially change the battlefield significantly
1
Exactly. Tracking that tank allows us to hit him again in his engine if we can manuver on him
1
@reedrk88t You do at schools. You never went to an NCOES? If you get a high enough score, you end up on the commandant's list?
1
@reedrk88t Are you purposefully ignorant? You say you were armor branch, correct? Go to the armor school in Benning and see who's in charge. Guess what? He's a commandant. Rank of Brigadier General. I'm currently serving, and have been since 1999. You never spend any time at the schoolhouse? Anybody who has, knows this. Not only that, you can Google it in 2 seconds.
1
America had a program like this in the 80s that was cancelled called the FOG-M
1
You got the weights wrong for the Gustav. The M3E1's the Army and Corps are buying to field are 15 pounds empty with iron sights. Average 84mm round is 7 to 8 pounds. That's a 22 pound gun, loaded. If you add the scope, it's maybe another 1 1/2 pound. Totally worth the weight. The airburst capability is the most effective weapon in long range fights in the afghan mountains. Very hard to hide when it goes off over their heads.
1
I prefer the L86. It's the british version of the RPK and I disagree that a try for can perform exactly the same
1
@Buck123four I disagree. Instead of having one platform trying to be everything from light trucks to armored cars, we will have separate vehicles to do that. The JLTV is superior to the M1114 in every way.
1
@jeffreyprezalar220 That's true. I've seen pictures of newer models
1
From what I've seen, the biggest threat right now to armored vehicles is the EFP command detonated bomb
1
Gotta be careful with these cannons near troops. They can really dangerous just with the overpressure, let alone the petals coming off of AP rounds.
1
The weight is what makes this system. Less than 30 pounds in the man portable configuration. The Javeline us fantastic, but it's damn heavy at twice the weight. Sometimes you just need something capable of killing tanks at closer ranges with greater mobility.
1
Shooting live rifle ammo at manned tanks in training?
1
They still have APFSDS rounds to kill heavy armor. This is shot at everything else.
1
Combine that with the new laser guided 2000 meter ranged rounds that weigh 6.8 KG and you have a lot of capability
1
We are. We're going to put these on a Bradley AMPV hull
1
@merlin5by533 The m2a1 is neither lighter or less recoil. They added a quick change barrel and a safety
1
@nivek2192 It's a crew served weapon. A whole squad carries the gun and ammo. We carried 50s up the mountains of Afghanistan often. I'm not just making this up off the top of my head. I have alot of experience with these weapons. The Russians made the move to the kord a long time ago. It's time we made a similar move.
1
@nivek2192 You're right, I'm not suggesting revamping the M2. I'm suggesting replacing it. If you read my original comment, you'll see that. We have the technology to make a better gun in every way.
1
@nivek2192 What are you talking about? We replace weapons with new ones all the time. We get rid of the old ones, too. Seen any BARs in regular service lately? For that matter, an M60? The crows isn't the answer to anything. It's great for long range shooting, but terrible at everything else. No more than 50% of a patrol will have an RWS. Have you ever gunned an M2 from an open turret? The combination of spade grips and mount make the muzzle jump around like crazy. A weapon that handles like a GPMG, yet has the firepower of a HMG is a game changer. Socom is looking into fielding a beefier 240 in .338. they recognize the need for a heavy hitting MG up in those mountains that doesn't require a tripod in order to reach out past 2000 meters. Listen, man. The enemy lugs fucking DshK HMGs up those passes and hits us with them. We bring our M2A1s up there for the same purpose. You not recognizing the need for a lighter gun for that purpose means fuck all to the thousands of us who do. ALL of our machineguns need to be replaced with lighter models. The tech is there and would cost less than 1 new fighter jet.
1
@nivek2192 Here's a great review of the KORD. It's way more versatile than the DshK or the M2. It's also way more accurate than either. https://youtu.be/IXQ17cNzGUg
1
@piotrd.4850 Yeah, replaced, just like the Russians did in the 80s
1
I think you have it backwards. We've become too reliant on heavy armor, and saying relying on ATGMs is too much reliance on technology flies in the face of the supposed solution to add even more tech on tanks with APS. In addition, drones aren't making artillery obsolete. They're breathing more life into them the last few years by making it more accurate and decreasing time till first hit and reducing ammo consumption. Especially with laser guided rounds.
1
I would hope the US military would replace the TOW with this missiles system
1
Altered Reality headsets are coming. This will allow soldiers to navigate, communicate, keep track of friendlies and enemies, target, monitor cameras, pilot drones, etc, without taking their eyes away from their environment.
1
I envision these exploding on very expensive fireworks displays at the abuse by javelins, 30mm cannon, 120mm Sabot rounds
1
The m2 needs to be replaced with a lighter model with similar features to the Kord
1
Maybe if you had several of them. One grad alone only covers maybe a football field
1
@vehx9316 Yeah they're always used per battery. The downside is slow reload
1
@vehx9316 Yeah. That's why the Marines are going heavily into rocket artillery
1
These things reportedly performed really well in Hue City
1
These things weigh less than an up armored humvee
1
I imagine that one of these guns us supported by a squad. Maybe 6 men total. Each soldier carrying a drum.
1
The kord a s much more accurate
1
They can't stop MAD. They can't shoot down hundreds of missiles but they can stop a dozen or more. It stops small players from hitting us but wouldn't stop a saturation attack like China and Russia are capable of launching
1
God I hate the M242. Most unreliable gun I've ever seen. Jamomattic
1
Whos ignoring artillery?
1
@markwood4555 Oh, yeah, thanks
1
@Joshua N. Ajang I honestly can't understand it either
