  2. We shouldn't juxtapose the manpower of the Ukrainian counter-offensive force against Russia's 500 thousand soldiers in Ukraine. The Russian force necessarily has to be spread out over the entire length of the battle front. So if Ukraine can find a weak spot defended by fewer men than the 50 thousand Ukraine has committed to this mission, it's possible the attack will succeed until it meets a greater opposing force.

A ceasefire without some very restrictive conditions would make Russia lose any positional advantage in the field that Russia may now hold, including materiel advantage where the Ukrainians are running out of weapons and ammunition. It would be analogous to pausing a chess game, during which time the losing side repositions its chess pieces and even adds as many new pieces as needed, all the while having watched where the winning side moves its pieces during the pause (with American intel). The winning side would lose at least some of the advantage in negotiations that it held before the ceasefire, and restarting the war to achieve its primary objectives would be more difficult, especially with troops that have been idle and might be becoming demoralized.

  30. The Western entities pushing for supplying Ukraine with nuclear weapons or even using them are operating under the misapprehension that Russia will back down in this game of nuclear chicken. Instead, these people should think about their children and grandchildren, because there will not be any. Russia has resolved ahead of the war that the threat to its existence is posed by the West planting dangerous weapons on its borders, and that to survive it needs to remove the threat. Russia also realized that a nuclear war might develop, but that they have no choice but to use nuclear weapons to defend their operations in Ukraine if that is what the West forces it to do.

  47. Land access to Armenia through friendly countries is via Turkey and Georgia. This makes military operations in Armenia limited. Air transport is possible over Turkey, but that's less efficient. Attacking Russia from Armenia is not very practical. US presence in Armenia doesn't change the security position if Iran, since Iran borders Turkey.

  48. Russians could have solved the WSJ spy issue by trying to convert him to in turn spy for Russia, and released him back to the US. Then, if he proves to be reliable and trustworthy to the Russian cause, he won't pose a threat to Russia. If he betrays Russia, then there is no loss, except that Russia won't have him to trade for Russian spies captured by the West.
