Braverman is not only a lawyer, she was once the government Attorney General. Disgraceful.

The Tories are so patriotic aren't they? Foreign run railways, and foreign owned utilities, foreign made passports and Ministerial cars. The Bufton Tuftons of this world will be spitting out their dummies but still voting Tory nevertheless.
14
The Tories must be desperate.
10
This is an incorrect use of statutory instruments. They are meant to be used for minor issues of finance.
9
Too little investment by the privatised water companies while an enabling but inactive government looks on.

I read recently that Ofgem are not going to protect the credit people have with energy companies as a result of too high direct debits, so if energy companies go bust people's credit will be lost/absorbed against the debts of energy companies, and that will include any money in those credit balances that came from the government - quite an incentive to go bust

I've been treated by the NHS recently, the NHS was paying anyway but for a PET scan I was referred via the NHS to a private clinic and for an eye test I went to the local NHS hospital but it wasn't NHS staff doing the tests. I could tell by the labels they were wearing.
7
@craigrothwell6144 That would probably rule out 3/4 of the population. Most European countries give some support to families and children, more than the UK.
7
So, you'll be giving the Tories a better chance. You obviously haven't suffered enough under them.
6
Her comments were correct I'm sure but why did Starmer pick on the 'antisemitism' aspect only if he felt it was wrong?
5
@eddiecatflap3838 Because the infrastructure has been neglected. It's not as if those people all ended up in one place. The same could happen if the birth rate went up.

@KernowDamo In the current issue of Private Eye Magazine (no 1588 ending 5 Jan 2023). It has a regular section called 'Keeping the Lights On'. Ofgem is quoted as just having announced they are 'not proceeding with our earlier proposals to ringfence customers credit balances'. The Magazine comments 'Without ringfencing, if the supplier goes down it it can take customers' advance payments with it, as has happened'.

Who is buying up this government? I think we should be told.
3
From one mad party to an even madder one.
3
I don't want the Tories back. Labour even with its faults would be better.
3
Can you write that grammatically?
2
Blinkered Blinken. Blinken idiot.
2
@peterscott2395 My pedantry is obviously necessary since you can't spell pedant. I prefer to regard it as a free education service.
2
@peterscott2395 Thanks. I love language.
2
@peterscott2395 At school if we made a spelling mistake we had to write it out correctly 3 times. However my daughter's spelling education was not as strict. Really you learn most vocabulary and spelling by reading a lot, which I also loved to do. We speak according to the company we're in and that's natural. I worked in a factory once and had to shout out in a Liverpool accent or people would not understand me. Swearing also helped. Lol it all adds to the fun.
2
@peterscott2395 I was taught Latin too,. That does help with understanding grammar and the meaning of words that we've derived from that language, but 2 other things helped me. I really enjoyed primary and junior schools and in junior school we had a great library that we were taken to get books once a week. Also we had a great local library and I would borrow the maximum 5 books that you could keep for about 3 weeks. My siblings were very much older than me and had all left home by the time I was 10 years old and I had to amuse myself like an only child would.
2
@peterscott2395 Thanks. Nice sharing with your too.
2
@Dylan-co2cl They won't. I promise you. Do you want these awful, useless, chaotic and malign Tories to get in again? I hope not.
2
@douglasmacari8707 You think Starmer will be worse than the Tories? Think about how much more damage the Tories will do in another 5 years. Starmer is too timid to be bold as he fears the Tory tabloid press. However if he gets elected I think he will aim to improve things albeit not as fast as people would want but that's better than making things worse and realistically it's the only party that can oust the Tories. Over time as the economy improves I believe he will take more steps to improve people's lives.
2
@terencehoughton5734 My priority is to get rid of the Tories. What's yours?
2
@simonmilner-edwards4305 You're certainly not getting rid of the Tories by not voting Starmer. Who will do more damage in the next 5 yrears, Starmer who is timid or the Tories who are gung ho for Brexit and destroying poeple's rights?
2
It means being known for something bad. Check the dictionary.
2
@alice1374 He has to do stuff to show he is different from the Tories in office otherwise he will be out next time and he knows it.
2
@richardgallagher4880 Stung by the title 'inaction man' I expect.
2
They are not as bad as the Tories. The Tories will do worse damage in the next 5 years if elected again. Anyone who thinks that way can't have suffered enough under the Tories.
2
Aren't you missing an important step? Start by removing the Tory government.
1
@keithchenery8364 I shall correct the errors for you. 'As long as that lot are still in office'
1
@Joanna-il2ur I do remember him. He was an MP in Birmingham where I grew up. A clever well educated man but rather highly strung.
1
@Carl Collins Well it was the Labour party that nationalised essential services after WW2.
1
Peter Mandelson is exerting his evil influence over Labour again.
1
How can you be 'overly ambitious' as a political leader? Surely the object of all of them is to get into power to be able to do stuff.
1
I don't think Israel cares about breaking international laws or being condemned for it. They have been breaking them for a long time in terms of illegally taking over land that is not theirs. They should be boycotted the way South Africa was boycotted for its apartheid policy. Syria doesn't care about human rights and breaks them in its own territory.
1
@anildoolah3442 The US is planning to attack the Houthis.
1
Anyone but Tories or other right wig nutters.
1
@msmango6354 You should vote so you have a say. The non voting are just ignored in terms of trends, opinions etc.
1
If the NHS is keeping people in hospital, it's because they are not well. The NHS doesn't offer hospital beds for nothing. I hope Liz Kendall manages to visit the mental hospitals herself. Can they access hospital patients without the patients and doctors permissions?
1
Except that Stalin didn't need any excuse to get rid of people.
1
@allancampbell8446 Trojan
1
@peterscott2395 That's o.k. It's just my little foible.
1
@KernowDamo Since the Tories have been in power.
1
@AngelinaG.-cc5xb No it would not. They believe in doing things in government though there won't be much money for it unless they can get the economy moving. However the Tories don' believe in government. They want to shrink government including public services and privatise as much as possible. Apart from that this is the most unstable, divided and useless government I can remember in my lifetime and they don't act to improve the lives of the British people, only to enrich the few.
1
@David-rr2bt I think he's worried about making promises he can't keep and somehow screwing up before the election by giving the Tory media ammunition to attack him. That's what they did with many previous Labour leaders and it worked. He's made some bad judgements in my opinion but compared to the Tories he will do some good when in power, I'm sure.
1
@freko106 That's the problem. The Tory media can easily destroy Labour leaders because the electorate seems to fall for all the mud slinging every time. Corbyn had a great manifesto which if enacted would have done a lot of good for the country. However I don't think Corbyn was interested in leadership. He's more of a campaigner. Also he would have had to deal with Covid which was costly and may have derailed some of this plans, and Brexit, though he did offer to hold a second referendum if I remember correctly.
1
@David-rr2bt We have to have some optimism. Don't know how I'd have got through all these Tory years otherwise and I'm not just referring to 2010 onwards. However I live as if I'm a pessimist. I always imagine things will get worse and so I prepare for that as much as I can. That has enabled me to avoid some of the worst effects of Tory rule.
1
@keithparker1346 Nothing to do with emotions. Mine is a rational position.
