@Харликвен regional language doesn't mean it is only spoken in a small region. What it means is that it isn't considered an official language of the country. As Ukrainian has been the sole official language of the country since 1991. Being a regional language meant that the language could be spoken or used for education etc. in the oblasts that choose to do so. But for example in the Western oblasts Ukrainian was the sole language for a long time. What happend was that Russian lost this privilege and that Ukrainian became the sole language for education and governmental purposes. Nothing wrong with that. The language isn't banned though, I still speak it everyday with Ukrainian friends and they speak it too with their family. So no, the language wasn't banned, in contrast to what the Russians did to Ukrainian in the 19th century.
2
@Харликвен also the tatar part of your comment is funny as Russian culture itself, especially the part considering how the country should be ruled, is heavily influenced by the Mongols. Which is not that crazy and is normal. Other countries influenced the Russians too, your flag was derived from the Dutch one. There is a story around Peter the Great in regards to that. As some wise leaders like him were smart enough to see the flaws in Russian society and culture and took influences from the West or other regions. The Dutch used to be considered German, the Norse had once a United cultured but are now seperate cultures, that is normal. Ukrainians aren't Russians, they are there own people. This is how cultures work.
2
duncan smith so cute I can actually give you a Russian source (Russian state media) that proves you wrong)). Clown ))
2
@Johnny's GamingClub the irony is, that if you checked the news of this morning, you'd know part of the city was retaken when Wagner left.
2
@russianpowerZV just curiosity, what do you think of Lenin and Stalin?
2
@jumpingsaucepan you're not Ukrainian. Lol
2
@virginra so what do you think of the Budapest Memorandum?
2
DJTV jumping saucepan isn't Ukrainian.
2
@orestmakar8562 слава Україні!
2
@jumpingsaucepan окей орк 🥰. Слава Украине
2
As a Dutchman I was surprised how this was possible in the first place.
2
@vanessali1365 I think it is alarming that such stations existed for such a long time without the government knowing. Another case for improving national security, as this is a breach of national souverenighty.
2
@sword-swinging cat yeah I do. Whilst not perfect they (the poles) were better for Ukrainian culture than the Russians/Soviets
2
@krowaswieta7944 yeah I know. But it shows Russian Russification policies.
2
@krowaswieta7944 yes in a way in did. But in Ukraine it also created a group that actually believe the Russian bs as well. Also yeah I know about the Polish partitions)) I have a major in history haha. But yeah it is ironic that they now complaining about the fact that allegedly the Russian language is forbidden now in Ukraine (this is not true just a Russian myth) whilst they themselves literally banned the Ukrainian language in the 19th century.
2
@krowaswieta7944 yeah Russia made it impossible for Ukraine and Russia to ever be friendly peoples again. Even friends I knew who were neutral or Pro Russian are now extremely anti Russian. About the states, yeah it is true too it also has pushed Ukraine towards the west and on particular Poland. Something nobody could have thought in the interwar period.
2
@StoutProper it was not whataboutism as it is perfectly related to the subject we were talking about. As I directly pointed to the fact that what you say is a half truth. Which fair enough is a Russian cultural trait. Nor did I justify their actions, you should read more closely in which I pointed out the fact that both sides were nasty. That doesn't mean that what happend, again ON BOTH SIDES is okay. The difference between me and you, a Russian, is that I don't play the enternal victim. I acknowledge the fact that what happend in Odessa is tragic, on both sides. You however play the victim again and blame everything on one party, which was not the case at all. I won't blame Russia or the Russian backed separatist for everything but nor were the Ukrainians solely responsible. There were two parties actually responsible for the shit that happend there. Considering the last part, that is tragic and the sad result of hate between peoples. The results of geopolitical games. But no it wasn't whataboutism as it was directly related to the point I was trying to make.
2
@StoutProper I don't agree about the Mexico part considering civilians casualties. There was a huge backlash on the US for Libya, Afghanistan and Iraq. In Vietnam when news came out of the civilian casualties because of the napalm bombings, it started to put more and more pressure on the US government. In my country a pilot bombed a weapons depot but in doing so blowing up an entire neighbourhood killing alot of civilians, his superior was put on trial as they could have known this happend and it was unnecessary civilians dead. How the people in the US would react on it, I can't judge, but I doubt Europeans would be happy with that. About the war itself, yeah I agree that about that the reaction would be milder as the US can kinda act with impunity in the Americas.
2
@StoutProper the ICJ wanted to prosecute American soldiers. I would advise you to read about the "the Hague invasion act" that was signed under Bush. It created an outrage in the Netherlands and is the reason why American soldiers have not been prosecuted. About the sanctions, I already agreed with you, that the west would not have reacted that way. This is because we're allies, we don't agreed with it, but we can't sanction them, especially considering our reliance militarily on them.
2
@StoutProper before the invasion my best friend, a Ukrainian asked me "as a historian Dylan, do you think there will be war?" My reply was "it feels awfully alot like the tention before the German invasion of Poland or the Austro-Hungarian invasion of Serbia, I think there will be war in 2 weeks". Sadly my prediction came true. To me it feels alot like we are all gearing up to total war again and that Ukraine is just the prelude. I hope I am wrong about this.
2
@ssir5927 I am not Ukrainian. So it is not Ukrainian historical revisionism then. People smh. 🤦♂️. And okay the Chechens don't consider themselves Russians, when do they get their freedom? And since you thins South Ossetia should be independent, I think you agree Notth Ossetia should unite with it and become independent from Russia too. Right? Or the Dagestani...
2
@alexbordon8886 and yet I bet you wouldn't think so when people say Luhansk and Donetsk are provinces of Ukraine 🤔
2
@bobgonzales9680 the best recommendation is to let the Europeans decide what they want as you have no say in it. We want the Americans as our ally, end of story. What your opinion is on that, is irrelevant. I also not telling you and your country what you should do and I advise you refrain from doing so either as you have no idea what you're talking about. Europe itself has been its most peaceful in centuries. Not our fault we have an obnoxious neighbour that thinks we're still in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Russia is the one starting the first major war in Europe since ww2, so yeah the existence of NATO is validated.
2
@ammarhaziq919 "Yugoslavia" I think you mean Serbia, in which case yeah not the cleanest of operations, but genociding Albanians is also not really okay is it? Maybe genocide is okay for you, here in Europe it isn't. About Libya, that wasn't NATO, but individual NATO members. Or would you call Georgia (2008), Ukraine (2014 and now) CSTO wars?
2
@Ed Straker yet it was shot from the seperatist side )) as stated by JIT))
1
@Ed Straker the plane was on the way from the Netherlands to Malaysia so moving from West to East. Not East to West. The plane was full with Dutch people going on vacation. So no it did not come from the direction of Russia 🤦♂️ Legitimate government of Ukraine? You mean the guy that gave up power himself by fleeing the country? A guy who had previously already committed voting fraud and who had imprisoned political opponents? How dare the Ukrainians reject authoritarianism eh? Not to mention that there have been to elections since. So yeah separatists. You can twist facts all you want but that is all they are.
1
@Ed Straker and I say that as someone with family and friends in Donestk (the city) and they agree with me )).
1
@nirmalsiva1 would be the dumbest mistake Putin makes. It would result in direct NATO involvement as well as China withdrawing support. As China too warned against the use of nuclear weapons.
1
ProjectsBlack lol bs
1
@darkpenguin1978 so because you have common history you can't change course and are stuck with them 🤔. I hope you see how stupid this reason is by me just repeating it.
1
ProjectsBlack "an armed uprising" the protests on Euromaidan surely were armed... lol my advise is to stop watching as much Russian propaganda, it is rotting your brain.
1
@Naija Network okay orc))
1
@vru9267 no they don't have such weapons. it is funny though. According to the Russians the Ukrainians now have rockets than can turn either 180° during flight when near their target or when they hit their target/ground. That's some neat technology lmao.
1
@Goe007 and then they would have had worthless nuclear warheads in the 90's with Russia invading them. You don't seem to know much about the actual history surrounding the Budapest Memorandum. Besides the fact that Ukraine might have had difficulties maintaining them (the UA economy fell hard after independence), Russia litterally threatend to take them away by force.
1
@Goe007 "your emperors", mate I am in Ukraine right now. What about you? Don't call me pro Russian, I am not a Moskal. Also where did I say Ukraine shouldn't get nuclear weapons in the future? I actually support Ukraine getting them as a deterrent. I was specifically talking about 1994, at which time keeping the nukes would have brought war to Ukraine, so at the time, they did the best option. I am also not afraid of nukes. My family is from Doentsk (I am half Dutch, half Ukrainian) and I lived in the Donbass myself as well. I know how it is to live with Russia as a neighbour. Next time before you acxuse someone of something. Use your brain. Again I rapport Ukraine getting nucleair wapens after the war and I think '94 was horrible for Ukraine in hindsight, but at that time it was the only real option. Anyway I am in Odesa now and going to Kharkiv soon because my girl returned for a few weeks from Kharkiv and I can see her now. What about you? Where in Ukraine are you?
1
@angelina6543 and there is the Serbian supremacist racist.
1
@angelina6543 Britain almost? What history have you been reading? The Umayyads were stropped at the battle of Tours in modern day France
1
@angelina6543 and you believe in the myths about the middle ages too 🤦♂️.
1
@samsonsoturian6013 😑 sure buddy
1
@samsonsoturian6013 no it isn't. But a dumb comment gets a dumb response. I know perfectly well what they do and I support my country banning them. At the same time I support Ukraine getting them. But to state the treaty was signed due to the 100 countries not having said weapon, is false. But I guess you're American, the arrogance at least checks out.
1
@MatejzKosic for asserting our national souverenighty for kicking out illegal Chinese police stations? Hahaha clown. Ofcourse we can't the way you do. It's called protecting your citizens.
1
@just1it1moko yeah the "Dominee en handelaar" mentality. Sadly to often the merchant wins in these cases. Like with Qatar. I am glad we do the right thing now instead of again letting money be the deciding factor.
1
@MatejzKosic 1. the fact we bought gas from Russia. 2. Ousting of Turkish politicians during their elections. 3. To many as NL didn't care about the opinion of the US under Trump (I actually have a clip of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte disagreeing with Trump live on TV). 4. American ambassador forced to clarify himself for statements made in regards of Dutch society (I have, albeit Dutch, clips of his statements and the Dutch reaction on it). Which was a reaction similar to the current one towards China. And I can continue and continue.
1
Lmao the hypocrisy. Russia has been using these weapons since the start of the war
1
@gospodinkartoshka no they didn't speak Russian. They spoke old Rus' / east slavic, never Russian. Then the languages split as they all developed on their own. For example Russia had alot of influences from the Mongols as well as that they were influenced by Old Church Slavonic. Ukrainian has actually been russified by the Russians not the other way around. Stop spreading Russian propaganda. And yes Ukraine/Ukrainian wasn't used as a name of a nation before the 19th century as before that they were considered Ruthenians (a name first used for all Rus' then for just the Ukrainians and today only for the Rusyn in Zakarpata).
1
@Art the old name was Artemovsk (Artemivsk in Ukrainian). If you say some bs, at least say it correctly. Ironically it also shows your, and your orc buddies', obsession with the USSR. It is Bakhmut now and it will remain so. No matter what orcs and Moskals like you say. Btw considering you guys obsession with the USSR, why haven't you orcs renamed Donetsk to Stalino yet? 🤡
1
@Mettmahlwerk it's Bakhmut, the orc is just sprouting his imperialist bs. It's like if Germans would be saying Kaliningrad is Köningsburg now.
1
@Memovox nice ad hominem orc ))
1
@Memovox okay, Stalin (and thus you're a hypocrite too. You worship someone who is responsible for alot more deaths than Bandera, but eh, orcs aren't know to be smart) 🫡
1
@O'Connor no you dumbass, it was the Russian airforce. Even Russia itself said so hahaha. What an id*ot you are. It is clear you're Russian considering your obsession with Bandera. So mate, what do you think of the fact that Stalin is now worshipped in the Russian Orthodox Church as a Saint? (The hypocrisy of you Moskals is hilarious). Also the cope mate lmao. Also remember last year "where is your counteroffensive?" Before having Russia's teeth kicked in, in Kharkiv and losing Kherson city xD
