@MiG23ML Can you give a time stamp?

No, Vichy France was neither an ally nor trusted by Britain. First of all the British and French had an agreement to not seek separate peace, and if one of the countries wanted to be relieved of that agreement then they will have to surrender their entire Navy to the remaining country, so when the French capitulated and they did not give up their Navy to the British then that was already setting flags that the French could not be trusted. Secondly Admiral Darlan tried to recruit French forces on Britain with a modified version of the Armistice but unfortunately the British know the true Armistice so that's another red flag as a French Admiral is blatantly lying. There were a lot of options in the British Ultimatum than just join the British or be sunk. There was literally the option of the French ships being placed in a friendly African port, their ships would be demilitarized and their men would repatriated back to their country, the British were even offering if the ships were damaged while demilitarized, the British themselves would pay the damages once the war was over. There were honestly great options in the Ultimatum that Gensoul simply ignored

@robertgiles9124 Well by today's standard that term is old but back then it wasn't, as I have told you the literal translation of Silver River hardly ever used in English. Also as the other commentor had said, it has been known as the Battle of the River Plate since 1939. "The Battle of Rio de la Plata" or the literal translation "Battle of Silver River" would mean nothing to most people

It's not like they died or something, but Pola getting creamed was sad

Back in Britain

Churchill was a complex figure. He did good things and he did bad things. Neither washes away the other
1
He can hate the Royal Navy all he wants, it's not like it's going to change anything

SMS Scharnhorst is different from the German Battleship Scharnhorst
1
Then that would mean more planes would be able to deal more damage
1
You're actually correct, that is the Hood. One distinguishable feature of her is the very low aft of the ship
1
Aft, nobody in the Navy would say the arse of the ship
1
He can't really fit the words Battleship and Battlecruiser in the thumbnail since those words are too long. Not all Battlecruisers sacrifice armor for speed, German Battlecruisers have armor like normal battleships and possess 11 and 12 inch battleship grade main armaments, and still has high top speeds. And finally HMS Hood despite being called a Battlecruiser is technically the First Fast Battleship since she has the armor, armaments and speed of a Fast Battleship

First off all the UK did not want any French ships they already got better ones, Secondly the Armistice between France and Germany stated that no French ship should fall into the Allies's hands so giving the ships freely to UK the only Ally left would clearly break the Armistice
1
Technically you can buy those ships, those sunken ships are being auctioned if I recall
1
If the enemy brought 2 capital ships and an aircraft carrier to my port with guns trained against my ships, I will assume that they're not bluffing

4 planes were shot down

The Battle of River Plate has been recognized and called that since 1939, the literal translation Battle of River of Silver or Battle of Rio de Plata is hardly ever used. The word "Plate" was an British term for either Silver or Gold so River Plate still makes sense
1
Interesting, you got any proper sources to backup your claims?
