The Boulder PD refuses to hand the case over to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation or to the Colorado State Police, presumably because it would then get solved and make the Boulder PD look stupid. It was the Boulder PD (Steve Thomas, mostly) who spent all day on the phone with reporters leaking false stories accusing the family, instead of actually trying to solve the crime. DNA science has advanced by massive leaps and bounds over the last quarter century, making this case eminently solvable, but the Boulder PD is more concerned with CYA and not being embarassed.

I wrote on a different thread that I do not see anything approaching "beyond a reasonable doubt" here, and got criticized for "defending a murderer" (ah yes, the YT comment section). Most of the "evidence" people have written about across the comment section has been nonsense, things like his choice of words or his alleged smugness. It's scary that such people serve as jurors.

  22. Richard Schlesinger is by far the best reporter of the network true crime shows out there. Different category than narrrator, where Bill Kurtis is king. When it comes to true crime reporters there are some real pros, such as Peter Van Sant, but Schlesinger is absolutely unmatched.

  33.  @soulfireonfire6423  The cousin's half-sister (or step-sister?) was questioned by police because her name was on a credit card they used. She thought police were concerned about an international drug smuggling ring, and told them that it was "only" about her brother killing Kissel together with his cousin. Can't make it up. They also didn't mention here that a third member of the family was also involved, although I don't know how he fits in.

  34.  @Mrs_Garrison_05  What a strange comment. For one thing, she didn't edit the video, 48 Hours did. It's not her fault that the victim's family refused to be interviewed, leading them to rely on her. For another, reaching conclusions 20% in is a bad idea.

Not only why, but how could she possibly have shot herself with her left hand, considering the strength it takes to shoot a handgun? Who has a night out with friends, then suddenly, without a hint of warning, rushes into the bathrroom, locks the door, and immediately shoots herself in the head? That is a partial list of questions that the defense can't answer, because his story made absolutely no freaking sense at all.

No, no medical professional with 30 years experience would drag a patient all over the damn place for no reason. Ask yourself a question - we heard his 23 year old daughter on the phone. She was overwrought, wildly out of sorts, and even she twice asked her dad why in the world he kept bringing mom to new and exciting locations. Did you hear doc screaming and losing it? Nope. Calm as can be. So why would he do something so utterly inexplicable? It's not as if there is any reason that would make him think that repeatedly moving her would be beneficial. Even if he was freaking out - silently, apparently - then that might explain a non-thought-out move which made sense to him in the moment, such as working on the patient without first lying her flat. But dragging her around? Sorry, makes no sense no matter how you look at it.
