When we Republicans have shut down the government, it has always been a major L for our side. Claiming that they benefit personally is reckless and baseless. (In the case of McCain, who was quite rich, it is also nonsensical.) Before accusing American heroes of selling out, try amassing a hint of evidence first. Lastly, upvoting one's own comment is really weak.

We have people today, such as Tom Cotton, who understand what it means to be a conservative. 2. Those who have followed politics for more than five minutes know that inside maneuvering relating to choosing party leaders happens in conference, not in front of the world. Ever since C-Span, and far moreso since the advent of social media, some politicians (such as Lauren Boebert and Matt Gaetz) are all about getting attention for themselves, even if it means dumping all over everyone else. Much - probably most - of the anti-McCarthy crowd were getting off on making a spectacle of themselves while knowing that they had little to worry about living in a very safe district. It was showmanship instead of effective legislation. Calling that out as "legislative terrorism" is hardly the same thing as equating them with ISIS.

He was one of the deeply conservative young turks who was battling the Republican establishment for years (yeah, you didn't know that, I know). But being in charge means having to cut deals. See, we don't live in a dictatorship. There are two houses of Congress, to go along with a president and a Supreme Court. There is no point in pushing legislation that will ultimately fail, with the only threat being a government shutdown, which in turn has redounded to the Democrats' electoral benefit every time without exception. And even more basic than that....all the raving Magats have no understanding whatsoever about why politicians generally act as they do. All the talk about the "Swamp" as it pertains to elected officials is so much nonsense. But Magats such as yourself don't understand that point at all. So after you respond to what I wrote in the first paragraph (if you can), try explaining that one: Why do elected officials vote for 4000 page bills and spend money we don't have, along with all other behavior that leads people like yourself to use the term "swamp"?
