A tanks doesn’t need to be particularly impressive to do its job well. I’m reminded of the Panther, which was kind of the opposite. It had impressive stats, but it didn’t really fill a role.

That’s 18% of unites that were in combat.

General Winter loses to the 5 Ps.

Not really. They just name them after people with a medal.

@jimig.688 I wasn’t being entirely serious, but a lot of smaller types of ships were named after people important to US naval history and/or who showed exceptional bravery.

Boreshighted means the barrel is aligned with the sights. Without it where you aim isn’t where you shoot.

They were still going to get crushed under the numerical advantage of the USN.

That was something of a stunt, but it does show the US’s commitment to mass producing everything.

@ulikemyname6744 building a cargo ship in 3 days, even if a stunt, is awe inspiring.

To this day the Japanese just don’t seem to get the American instinct to take and hold onto the initiative.

Without a doubt. Even with the men an resources being used in China being redirected to fighting the US, Japan was completely out matched. The US had twice the population, had the resources of a continent, was by far the largest oil producer, had a technological advantage, had an industrial base equal to the rest of the world combined, and had nuclear weapons. By the end of WW2 the US Navy was larger than the rest of the world’s navies combined twice over. The US was always going to batter Japan into submission. The only question was how long it was going to take.

Japan didn’t have 8 million troops in total, let alone in China. However, even if Japan had 8 million troops, it wouldn’t matter. They were groun forces. The war against the US was a naval war. What matters is how many ships you have and how capable they are. The US had something like 30 times the industrial capacity of Japan with the resources to supply them.
1
You’re not getting it. Japan didn’t have the resources to do what you’re talking about. The only way for Japan to have won a war against the US was to not fight the US.

The people killed in China were the victims of a futile effort by the Japanese.
