The authorities have got their heads in the sand here in Sweden.
83
The head of WHO has an disturbing biography.
83
In his sermon on Sunday, Patriarch Kyrill, head of the Russian Orthodox Church, gave strict orders that people should absolutely not go into churches. He said that the example of St Mary of Egypt should be followed at this time. St Mary of Egypt is a popular saint among the Orthodox; she spent 47 years in solitude in the desert and never went into a church; at the very end of her life she was discovered by a monk who brought her the Holy Communion and then she died.

I had a lot of difficulty in obtaining a vitamin D test here in Sweden, though I eventually succeeded in getting it from my GP service. There has been little publicity about Vitamin D, despite the low levels of sunlight and the large population of migrants with dark skin.
33
Sweden will be interesting. It might get off relatively lightly despite the official response. The people need no encouragement to distance themselves socially. Looking around the town in Gothenburg, is seems as if the advice about social distancing has been followed enthusiastically, even though the authorities are still advising to continue travelling as usual. I guess a lot of people have gone off to their summer cottages. Public transport is almost empty and the national railways have cut one in four services due to lack of passengers. The next week should be instructive. The sun is starting to get stronger so we can get extra vitamin D from sitting out.
22
That follows from basic Darwinist theory.
10
Not an official word on D here in Sweden. You would have thought that they would have given D priority especially before the vaccine was available. Pi55 poor performance. Credibility nil.
8
@PVAPlayy And promoted vitamin D. No better in Sweden unfortunately.
5
The Swedish commentator is obviously forced to be careful what he says.
5
The policy is to go for 'herd immunity'. Older native Swedes tend to be a bit reclusive anyway and inclined to be a bit obsessional about cleaning so they carry on as usual. Many have summer cottages to retreat to. Ethnic minority communities will be differentially affected, especially as they are in majorities in the big cities, with large families and children at school who will carry the infection home. If the aim was to cull the immigrant community, the authorities could hardly have thought of a better method. Then there will be an almighty political row. Those in charge have not been very bright.
5
@Mariemarie-uw7id Hopefully these idiots will be punished. I get the impression that people are taking their own precautions.
4
The Swedish authorities are still being lackadaisical. Official advice is travel as usual! Swedish people seem to be largely ignoring the bad advice. Many have gone off to their summer cottages.
4
It's not shingles is it? Could there be a connection between Covid or a vaccine side effect?
3
Why are the mainstream media doing this? It is not just reporting of cv. that is being suppressed. The end of it will be a collapse in trust. Heavy censorship here in Sweden.
3
The authorities have behaved uselessly. https://www.vasttrafik.se/om-vasttrafik/nyhetsarkiv/corona/ Gothenburg is pretty deserted though. I think people have gone off to their summer stugor.
3
@ingurlund9657 I am not so sure about that. The Swedes here in Gothenburg seem to be quarantining themselves without having to be told by the authorities. Darwinist theory will operate. I don't think the lefties are as smart as to work things out the way you suggest.
3
Is there a correlation between severity of symptoms and medications routinely taken eg statins and alpha-blockers?
3
In cases of congested lungs, is there a benefit in lying on a tilted board, head down, to allow fluid to run out?
3
@naps3386 If the schools are open the pupils will bring the disease home. Parents may have underlying conditions or be in the vulnerable age group. There may be grandparents in the household.
3
@AnHeC The idea is to have a controlled explosion. Nearly everyone will get it. The point of the restrictions is to prevent a surge of cases. The impact on the economy raises fundamental questions about the nature and purpose of the economy. There are far more people working than in the 1950s. We were told then that by the end of the century, productivity would be so much higher that it would be possible for people to work just two or three days a week, with just one member of the household working. Nowadays, families have both parents working full time to pay the mortgage.
3
How about this possible origin for the virus? It was created in the laboratory at Wuhan, but a rogue technician did not incinerate the experimental animals but flogged them off to a trader in the food market.
3
Friends arrive back in Sweden last night from Ethiopia, no checks, no quarantine. Deaths statistics might be untrustworthy. The true numbers dying from CV may be fiddled in some countries by recording the co-morbidity as the cause.
3
Sweden has had a change of government and they are coming down all heavy handed with new restrictions. This is aided and abetted by the media which are trying to terrify people with this threat of a highly contagious mutation which most of those infected don't even know they have got.
2
There is a well known phenomenon called "Regulatory Capture". This is a good example.
2
Darwin's principle operates. The mildest versions dominate.
2
The prostate can also sometimes grow into the bladder, reducing capacity. The popular drug alfuzosin leads to reduced blood pressure which can cause dizziness and tiredness. Finasteride and some substances with similar action can delay the growth, gaining up to ten years. A side-effect of TURP can be retrograde ejaculation.
2
Cut carbs to <50g (dry weight) per day. Eat as much as you feel like of anything else and get about an hour or two of exercise a day and your weight will go down. But most prepared and ready made foods are loaded with starch and sugar so you have to read the labels carefully or cook all your own from scratch.
2
@theonlylauri Yes. Not many commentators seem to have noticed. The native Swedes do self-isolation anyway as a lifestyle choice. There is also the issue of low vitamin D levels due to reduced levels of sunlight. The climate is unsuitable for people from lower latitudes.
2
@danomau Only the native-born Swedes.
2
@robi1kenobi They might be in a couple of weeks. We are behind the curve.
2
@overtime5560 It's a case of one-bitten, twice shy. Confidence in the authorities had collapsed before this came along.
2
What happened to variants epsilon to psi?
2
@flamingpieherman9822 B12 is added to Marmite. There's a surprise
2
is there a correlation between adverse effects and the efficacy of the vaccine? If you have had a heavy reaction from the AZ, could it mean that you probably don't need a second shot?
2
@queenzy591 People generally seem to be ignoring this bad official advice https://www.vasttrafik.se/om-vasttrafik/nyhetsarkiv/corona/
2
Could there be a link between the severity of the disease and insulin resistance (diabetes/pre-diabetes/metabolic syndrome)?
1
Is it possible to separate out the effects of the co-morbidities and the medication used to control them? Why would dementia be a factor? Is there a third factor causing both dementia and vulnerability to the virus? Do multiple co-morbidities have a single causal factor? There is lots of statistical analysis to be done, followed by at attempt at establishing mechanisms.

Here is the low-down on Sweden. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9ycw-nBp94

I am unable to post links to any of Dr Campbells on the discussion comments sections of the Swedish newspapers. They are automatically deleted by the censusbot that controls by Ifrågasätt which provides the comments service. The Swedish government has a new PM who is trying to make herself noticed, and we have gone back into panic mode with new restrictions, requirement for vaccine passports and an advertising campaign on YouTube to encourage people to get more vaccination, which there never was when the epidemic was at its height and the vaccination programme had stalled because of delivery problems thanks to relying on the EU.
1
Attempts to refer to this video and this channel in the online comments columns of Swedish newspapers are removed by the moderators as not complying with the guidelines. There is a de facto policy in Sweden of trying to keep people in the dark, which has the effect of handing the baton to conspiracy theorists.

Richard Adam's novel The Plague Dogs is worth a read. This entire research activity is disgusting.
1
There was an early report that the Israelis have a vaccine routinely given orally to chickens, which is a close match.
1
I have said this many times - underpaid laboratory technicians could routinely sell off the "used" experimental animals to market traders instead of incinerating them as required. There is something on this in "The Plague Dogs" by Richard Adams.

People in Gothenburg seem to be ignoring the official advice and isolating themselves. Sweden is a victim of its political correctness. Same as in 2015 and that has bust the financial system. We will get our 'herd immunity' but before that happens the health service will be overcome by the surge in cases. The health service has been cut to the bone as the surge of migrants in 2015 has gobbled up the public finances.
1
There will soon be a lot of people who have quarantined themselves despite having had the illness, recovered and no longer being contagious. There will need to be a test for recovered patients so that they can be out and about, especially medical staff.
1
The Swedish policy is to let it rip through to achieve herd immunity. A restriction of gatherings of no more than 50 people has just been enforced, otherwise it is business pretty much as usual. I think I had it a couple of weeks ago; there have been sore throats going around since the middle of January. But it could equally well be pollen, as there is lots of hazel and birch pollen in the air. No tests available. The government epidemiologist, Anders Tegnell, is behind this do-nothing policy, which is based on the gamble that there will not be a surge of cases which are beyond the ability of the health services to deal with. That is a risky strategy, with cases in Stockholm The Swedish government has lurched from one bad decision to another since 2014, so this is just one more. The major importers were holidaymakers returning from ski holidays in Italy.
1
It would be worth trying to correlate medications taken for pre-existing conditions, and for insulin resistance/diabetes/pre-diabetes/metabolic syndrome.
1
There is a theory that aspirin was a factor in the high death rate in the 1918 epidemic

See my comments. You need to be careful about how CV deaths are defined. I am not sure there is a consistent standard between countries. https://www.svt.se/datajournalistik/corona-i-intensivvarden/
