Sri Lank is yet another country well endowed with natural resources, ruined by political and economic mismanagement.

The independent Ukrainian church was recognised by the Patriarch of Constantinople. Unfortunately, there is doubt as to whether he had the authority to do so and if the canonical procedure was correctly followed. This leaves the status of the independent church as uncertain. It is significant that the other Orthodox Patriarchs have not recognised the independent church.

Master F*** Up.

They don't want people to know the real causes.
8
Zelensky will be taking the salute in Red Square by Christmas.
7
Those two countries would go straight over to the Russian side.
6
There are comedy acts all round - Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Ukraine - all the WEF puppets. They make Putin look like a wise statesman in comparison..
6
@DiogoJ1 Since the EU is trying to punish Russia by not buying their gas, it would be morally wrong to take Putin's gas for nothing.
6
It's our problem. We are the ones who are getting hit with the extra costs.
4
Time this war came to an end. The Russians will grind Ukraine down and there will be more dead Russians and Ukrainians, and for what? The two sides should stop fighting and negotiate.
3
You can sit at home and freeze if you want.
3
Unseasonably chilly here in Scandinavia this year. Quite wet, too.
3
Ukraine should implement the Minsk accords.
3
@heldertorres4296 You are not the one who is losing your customers. Enjoy the winter without your Russian gas.
3
Gross incompetence on the part of politicians, the entire economics profession, bankers, and those who how mismanaged relationships with the former Soviet bloc since 1992. This expert commentator is also part of the problem. He doesn't know what he is talking about.
3
Well done.
3
Unseasonably cold weather here in Sweden. Summer got off to a very late start.
3
Sweden has been losing territory for the past 20 years. The third city, Malmö, has gone, Stockholm and Gothenburg are being eaten away from the edges
3
@annaredding No comparison.
3
EU cheerleaders, hence the drivel from DW, whoever they are.
2
Do you think the Russians will not turn up the volume and bit us in the butt?
2
Price increases are an EFFECT of inflation. They were bound to happen due to 15 years of Quantitative Easing plus the Covid helicopter money. Central Banks and politicians have caused this. The boycott of Russian energy has triggered what was inevitable.
2
Yes by cutting off its own supplies very clever.
2
@nbgoodiscore1303 Yes you can start by binning your computer and mobile phone with its Chinese components.
2
Where did they get the steam locomotive from?
2
The Ukrainian leaders should have been negotiating last January instead of allowing their people to be used as catspaws for the US military-industrial complex. Some people are making a lot of money out of this.
2
This dispute needs to be recognised for what it is - a legacy of the messy break up of the USSR. The present boundaries of Ukraine do not match linguistic, religious and ethnic differences and were never intended to. There are even bits taken out of Hungary and Slovakia in 1945. It needs to be sorted out with a bit of goodwill and commonsense. The EU is also a problem because of its trade polices which interfere with the flow of goods across all its borders. This is exactly the same thing as the Northern Ireland EU dispute. The protected Single Market is a dangerous anachronism which needs to be scrapped.
2
Honesty is absent when the EU is concerned.
2
People who have been elected in a boycotted election 3% have no mandate and should not have attempted to take office.
2
@robertcohen8554 There speaks a descendant of Aaron the first in the line of High Priests.
2
Typical politician.
2
@nerdlingeeksly5192 Meanwhile we have no heating through the winter. Very clever.
2
Sooner or later the Russians will turn up the volume big time. Keep on poking the bear. Good business for the manufacturers.
2
...apart from the no go areas controlled by criminal gangs and the protection racketeers. We have more to worry about than Putin.
2
Why the heck do we need to join NATO? We got through the Cold War without it. Support for joining the US military-industrial warmongers' club is far from universal here in Sweden. We have severe social and economic problems with no solution in sight. Rising gun crime, failing public services, a hard core of unemployables and a tax burden which is gradually crushing the life out of the economy. Hardly anything here is not made in China or Vietnam or Bangladesh, etc. The country has already been invaded, with parts of the cities being no go areas under the control of criminal gangs. Russia should be the least of our worries. I hope that Erdoğan will save us from ourselves. The tragedy is that we have given up our traditional role as trusted peace brokers.
2
Perhaps some people want to gamble on catching the virus and getting over with it?
2
@Swedish and Nordic. Malmö is already lost. Have you not been keeping up with the news?
2
Labour is just as responsible. It goes back to 1997.
2
How did Finland manage for 60 years during the Cold War without being a member of NATO?
2
Enjoy the freeze.
2
@Elfdustify Nothing democratic about the EU. It's the Third Reich rebooted.
1
Putin is in large part a creation of the west, in particular NATO and EU expansion and the EU trade and economic policies. The latter have prevented the normalisation of trade relations with the former Soviet countries. Putin has made a huge mistake but there are ideological issues which will not go away.
1
@arturschlegel-ky2wt What is heretical about them? There is definitely a dispute over jurisdiction and the independent Ukrainian Church has modernist tendencies but I have not come across accusations of heresy.
1
@__Aurora__ It doesn't work like that. New autocephalous Orthodox Churches have to be recognised by all the others. That has not happened.
1
@richlopez5896 That still leaves a long list which have not recognised them. The accepted process was not followed.
1
@sergeyb8 Yes. Orthodox in Ukraine generally want to be in communion with all the other Eastern Orthodox. Because the procedures for setting up an autocephalous church were not followed, they have now been cut off. The decision should have been made and approved in accordance with Canon Law, which requires a synod. The Patriarch of Constantinople does not have the authority to carve out an independent Church from another Patriarchate. There is an accepted way of going about the process.
1
At the rate things are going, Hungary will end up in an alliance with Putin. Keep prodding, Brussels.
1
@benghazi4216 The west has been poking the bear for 30 years.
1
Whatever happens, on no account negotiate. Fight to the last Ukrainian.
1
It's a mirror image of RT but seems to be getting more influenced by warmongers and neocons. Follow the money.
