@johnwilson6324 Ok, fair enough. Sorry for being hostile. I am a Korean- Canadian in Vancouver. No, I can’t speak Chinese. Yes, I know that Richmond, BC, is a thing. I would like to hear your arguments on mixed race people though.

MyUsersDark Sphere of Influence =/= annexation. Also, cool - Hong Kong is literally a speck of dust compared to the rest of China.

Tall Jakee No, it is. https://www.bing.com/images/search?view=detailV2&ccid=%2FkTCTj%2FL&id=A1516F0989CB1C11E595910E28105F83FBCF320A&thid=OIP._kTCTj_Ljm14KI5ErNw9fAHaGS&mediaurl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fvku23lrh8i921.png&exph=1700&expw=2000&q=linguistic+map+china&simid=608014657379565992&ck=CAA105C5376AF551DAA416D06BB90814&selectedindex=2&qpvt=linguistic+map+china&form=EX0023&vt=4&sim=11&adlt=demote&shtp=GetUrl&shid=06c9e5aa-7f0f-43d7-bd71-d584ca1260f3&shtk=TGFuZ3VhZ2UgTWFwIE9mIENoaW5hICgyMDAweDE3MDApIDogTWFwUG9ybg%3D%3D&shdk=Rm91bmQgb24gQmluZyBmcm9tIHd3dy5yZWRkaXQuY29t&shhk=f3Q%2B4h7LfQrB3eUEEqDWz9Z7%2BulSwZx3HNqeELh8sK4%3D&shth=OSH.LVyRTVTqMPKDfTyHnvdOdw Note that the definition for ‘Mandarin’ includes sub dialects that aren’t really mutually intelligible. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sichuanese_dialects For example, Sichuanese has only 47.8% lexical commonality with Northern Mandarin. For comparison, Ukrainian and Belarusian have 80% lexical commonality with Russian. Ethnically, the people of Guangdong and Yunnan are closer to Vietnamese than those from Beijing. Which should not at all be surprising, since that part of China is susceptible to tropical diseases that the rest of China isn’t exposed to.

Pawefrom EP Did anyone know at the time it was forged?
1
TheRegalSeagull The logistical situation was beyond his control (Germany needed control of Malta, and they never got it).

@MrStickyMouse Americans wanted Trump to push the US more protectionist despite pro-trade elite rhetoric. Hence, why Biden copied him. Did they know the ins-and-outs of the TPP? Literally every time I pull out the 2-1 NATO statistic (from YouGov, if you’re interested), I always hear some variation of “the people are wrong”. Which to me, is asinine. Especially from self-proclaimed ‘populists’.

@jackyex https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_South_is_My_Country There have been at least one armed revolt that had to be suppressed from Southern Separatists.
1
@jackyex Argentina is very Social Democratic, so Macri had to go slowly, and he only really had half a term to implement any reforms in practice anyways before a currency crisis killed any chance of success. The only way anyone could go fast in Argentina is for a complete societal and cultural reshuffling to occur. Which isn’t likely. Spain is so fragile because the euro was a fundamentally flawed idea that put Spain in insane amounts of debt by artificially lowering interest rates.
1
@YamiFlyZX Considering the growth of companies like Macre Libre? They’ve been holding out pretty well, considering the circumstances. Argentina has extremely high literacy and extremely high rates of enrolment in both higher and lower education. Is it Asia? No.
1
@jackyex Uh, no. The Wikipedia article says the YES vote for independence is consistently over 90%.
1
@Joleyn-Joy Canada was also dominated by American Multinationals and is still incredibly dependant on the US. That’s what happens when you’re right next to the US.

The nova renaissance I thought China’s Navy could fight to-to toe with America’s? Because otherwise, they’re not ready for an invasion. Oh sure, they could *land*, they just wouldn’t be able to resupply. It’d be the Chinese Operation Sea Lion, and the Chinese know it. Xi isn’t that dumb. They still need to bide their time.
1
@Donkeyearsa To be fair, Xi has made sweeping military reforms recently that make the PLA more of a competent force. Time will tell whether it’s enough.
1
@amrahmed7856 Yes, because a blockade isn’t something easy to break if you don’t have complete superiority on the seas, which is unlikely. Leningrad held out for 900 days because the Finns let the Soviets carry food across the ice of Lake Onega. Taiwan can hold out for a long time if they have even a little bit of a supply line to the rest of the world.
1
@livethefuture2492 The Chinese thought they had strongarmed the Taiwanese before the 2019 election and that they were under China’s influence. That didn’t happen. China also depends on resources from outside its borders and markets to export to because of its inability to develop a thriving consumer market (relative to the size of their economy, only Oil monarchies and Luxembourg are less dependant on consumption.

@Tall Jakee Hong Kong’s government was always controlled by the CCP and was never fully democratic.
1
@Montechristoss Macedonian was not considered ‘Greek’ by the city-states in the same way we we consider it today. Kind of like US to UK.
1
Thomas Paine Japan attacked Pearl Harbour because they didn’t want the USA screwing with Japanese supply line through the Philippines.
1
Austin The American The Japanese thought they could weaken the US Navy by attacking first with an air strike at Pearl Harbour, then using their early advantage to give themselves the strategic advantage. The remnants of the US Navy were to be destroyed in a decisive battle the Japanese could fight on their terms, hopefully where the Japanese were close to their supply lines and strong and the Americans were overstretched and far from theirs. Note that this is the strategy Japan famously used in the Russio- Japanese War navally- note however, that the Americans were actually competent, unlike the Russians. The other worry was that the US Navy was building up, and if they didn’t attack soon, the USA would attack them on their terms, with an even stronger navy.

@godofthisshit Belgium also industrialized very early...
1
@sephikong8323 Oh, never mind. Read it wrong.

Andreas Fly Italy had Rhodes, Britain had Cyprus.
1
Andreas Fly They can’t, not least until the war overall is won. They can take Rhodes off the hands of a defeated Italy. Cyprus... not easy, but if the Central powers win in the Mideast and Britain just stops wanting to fight.
1
Andreas Fly It would surround the Entente forces in Albania, forcing them to flee to Italy or be destroyed.

KZN?

@felipeignacioavilapizarro3698 Literally every time someone has done that, we just end up creating more work for ourselves.
1
Pat Booth The Ardenees offensive was only done because Hitler. The vast majority of the troops were in the east, and once Hitler died, Germany pretty much did everything to give the Western Allies as much of Germany as possible, and German troops pretty much stopped seriously fighting the Western Allies.

Sweet Candy hi

The Nova renaissance In 1800, Austria had a population of 23 Million. Mainland France had 26 Million. Mind you, the Austrians lacked the Austrian Netherlands, Milan, and Naples at the time (Napoleonic Wars).
1
The Nova renaissance So? They were 'core' territory that Austria mobilized for the military, unlike the Omanese Empire, which was trading-based, like British India. Austria also controlled the HRE (influence over Germany).
1
The Nova renaissance Because that’s like making Carthage Rome. The Omani empire was a trading empire largely based around slaves. If you changed it so that Oman could be part of a superpower, it wouldn’t be Oman anymore. It would be an Arabian Caliphate.
1
The Nova renaissance I meant that Oman wouldn’t even be the capital. Muscat’s a terrible place to put a city to administer an empire.

@theemperor-wh40k18 Few really care that much what Wyoming thinks, either.

@jackyex My argument was that Socialist nations in Latin America do poorly, and ‘doing your own thing’ in Latin America has meant native nationalism (Bolivia) and socialism. How is that the exception?

Jurij Popotnig No it wasn’t. Also, there are still jungles in Australia, in the north.

Sultan Samurott As far as I know, the Ottomans at this point we’re basically subservient to the Western powers. They’re unlikely to join the Soviets, considering you know...Russians. If Iran goes into revolution, the Turks are basically a bulwark against them. Unless they join the Nazis. Though that probably results in a Nazi Victory TL.
1
Sultan Samurott Well, that alliance didn’t last, did it? Reality is, they’re not really inclined to join forces.
