False. Completely and utterly false.
FACT The world can achieve net zero today. It can also RETROSPECTIVELY achieve net zero for any year it wants.
It's not GROSS zero, that is it isn't actual zero. It's NET zero. Net. As in the accounting term for after the balance sheet is settled. Like how your payslip* has a gross pay that your employer pays you, and a net pay that goes in your pocket after tax, super, whatever else comes out.
It's an identical concept for "net zero". You start with your actual real world emissions. Then you deduct the emissions you've "offset" with "carbon credits".
A carbon credit is when you have an empty piece of land with some trees in it, and they come up with a pretend number for how much carbon those trees are worth.
You can sell your carbon credits multiple times, so don't worry. Buy enough carbon credits and you're able to subtract all the carbon you produced. Magically, net zero.
It's an accounting scam and always was. The idea is to justify creating carbon credits, because they can be brought and sold as commodities, and they can be speculated on. Thus making the already obscenely weathly, even moreso.
If you want to actually improve the environment you need to reduce population. That's already on its way down in the west. It's the developing countries that need to be sorted out. But there's no money to be made there and if they can't be distracted making babies they're liable to revolt, so it isn't happening.
