  1.  @megalonoobiacinc4863  The pics seemed to show that - the buildings looked like they were built directly onto the dirt. A foundation is supposed to go as deep as necessary. For instance, the John Hancock building in Chicago is built on concrete filled caissons that go over 100' down to bedrock. The loss of some soil due to water should NOT affect the foundation of a skyscraper at all --- if it has one.

  4. In this new Cold War, it will be interesting to see what side Russia decides to be on. IMO, I think Russia will NOT support China, but will support India, and therefore side with the United States. 1. India has been Russia's major arms client for past 50 years. It won't want to lose that customer. 2. China just claimed Vladivostok and parts of SIberia. So, that makes Russia an enemy.

  5.  @DanafoxyVixen  NO. In US, by "house", we mean a free standing dwelling for the occupancy of a single family. A "home" could be any dwelling a person or family lives in -- house, condominium, cabin, tent. Words have meanings. You can't just make up your own.

  6. I think the economic collapse is not only deeper and broader than expected, I think it is also happening faster than the CCP can react. If I am right, then China's military will start feeling the pinch very soon. If that happens, invading Taiwan will not be able to happen. Invasions are expensive.

  7. Technically, China is experiencing "collapse", not decline. "Decline" implies part of a cyclical economici cycle, like a recession or even worse depression. Both "recession" and "depression" suggest that they will end as an economic cycle works its way through, and comes to an end. All recessions and depressions are followed by booms and expansion. China is NOT experiencing that, IMO. China is going through profound structural change. Whole industries are being affected, with some disappearing. Today's China is a shadow of what it was just a few years ago. In 10 years, China will be unrecognizable from the booming China we knew for 30 years. 40 years ago, poverty was universal in China. It was everywhere. Poverty was normal, and the Chinee people accepted it. It was part of life. It was their life. B U T --- the Chinese of today don't remember that poverty. All they knew was boom and prosperity. Abject poverty will hit them hard. They will be angry. I wonder who they will blame?? Hmm, anyone have an idea/??

  8. Is there any knowledge of Taiwan's ECM and jamming technology to divert and defeat China's missiles?? Since Taiwan manufactures the most advanced microchips, I expect that Taiwan's engineers have developed advanced ECM, ECCM, and jamming tech. If I am right, then a successful invasion of Taiwan would be almost impossible.

  9. I would like to see joint naval exercises held in the South China Sea, under invitation from Vietnam. The countries in the exercises hosted by Vietnam should include - Vietnam (host), Philippines, India, Australia, Japan, and US. Taiwan should attend as an observer. The exercises should operate in the SCS (aka West Philippine Sea), and the territorial waters of Vietnam & Philippines. If possible, Indonesia could also attend as an observer. In fact, any ASEAN nation should be welcome as an observer. (the more the better). That would send a S T R O N G signal to China that the opposition to China is strong and united.

  12. China's middle class is collapsing. It is NOT temporary. Right now credit cards are how many are surviving with no security net,, like those that exist in western nations. Soon, their credit will end, and then the true situation and problem will become clear. China is going back to the massively poor country it was 50 years ago. But, it is worse than that. China's poor will no longer be living on farms, where they could subsist growing their own food. Now, most are in cities, which require a functioning economy to sustain its residents. I expect their to be mass starvation. The world is not prepared to relieve such a huge crisis - even if it wanted to. The CCP has so alienated the world that I doubt that any aid will be forthcoming.

  13. Is there a rental market?? It seems that many purchased homes remain unoccupied....... So, why don't owners rent them out?? Or, are they prevented from doing that? Wouldn't making money like that be good for the Chinese economy??

The migrant from Hunan to Shanghai does NOT have the same right to medical care, education for his children, housing, and other services. An internal migrant in China is very different from an American citizen who moves around for work.

  22. China is the ONLY country claiming SOVEREIGNTY over the SCS. All the other countries merely claim their EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) rights. EEZ rights do not allow a country to hinder trade through it. SO, the claims of the other countries are profoundly different from what China is trying to do. China's claim is technically, an act of war on Japan, Vietnam, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia.

  25. Why does the policy of reducing credit to home resales not affect new home sales?? If I was in China, I would very reluctant to buy a home, since it is likely that I will never be able to get my money out of it. After I build equity, can I get a second mortgage? Or, HELOC?

  27. Xi will threaten the world more. It just jailed a Japanese businessman. China still uses Wolf Warrior tactics. It threatens ships sailing through the SCS. Fewer and fewer people and companies will want anything to do with China.

  28.  @offiz  Every now and then, some American banks go bust, that is true. In fact, in 2008-09, more than a few went under. BUT -- not one person lost their savings, or even a portion of their savings. Can the same be said of Chinese bank failures?? The American system is flexible, and can take big hits. It bends, but does not break. That is its biggest virtue, IMO. Some who hate the US, are now predicting disaster, just because there are some issues. There will always be issues. Debt, or inflation, or deflation, or recession, etc. etc. But, if you look at history, the American economy and system just sailed on through.

  29. To clarify -- China does NOT claim the SCS as part of its EEZ, as Philippines does. China claims FULL SOVEREIGNTY. It claims its laws rule there, just like they do on the Yangtze River. That means, to the Chinese, the SCS is not the high seas, freely open to maritime traffic.

  33. Centrally run economies have an inherent problem. The centrally defied goals, 6% GDP growth for instance, merely create targets for people below that they will have to fake, if they don't achieve the targets. Do you really believe that China had 4.9% growth last quarter?? The bankruptcies, the ending of the education industry, the foreign companies moving out of China, etc etc. I don't believe China's stats. I think China is already suffering huge unemployment, and misery. Also, I think those at the top of the CCP, do not really know the size and extent of their problems. All the stats they get are lies told by people trying to keep their jobs.

  35. Steep pay cuts --- people will not pay their mortgages. Vast number of defaults. Collapse of banks. Collapse of companies that require a functioning banking system. Huge unemployment. Vast reduction of money supply. Further collapse of companies. More bankruptcies.

  36. This factionalism is what is causing the contradictory foreign policy moves, IMO. Big question --- China's aggressive and threatening actions undercut China's trade and finance goals -- Why is China doing this??? I think they are two separate factions. One group wants confrontation and conflict -- while the other wants cooperation and peace to develop China's economy and build wealth. These are incompatible. China is driving away the countries and companies it needs for exports, and to build its industrial base. Now, foreign companies are moving out, and those that are staying are there just to build for the Chinese market, and less for export. Apple, for instance, is building plants in other countries now, and de-emphasizing manufacturing in China. Factionalism is destroying the Chinese miracle.

  38. The United States has 100 years of experience in operating carriers. China must go through its own learning process. Develop procedures, policies, and strategies. It cannot be done overnight, or in just a year or two. It will take China decades to do that.

  39. Looks like CCP's various departments don't talk to each other. One wanted to attack and belittle an American company, probably to get them to act sheepish and guilty. Another wants to increase foreign investment, and to keep Tesla in China. Elon Musk is supposed to be a smart guy. I cannot see how any "smart" guy would put all his eggs in the China basket. I am certain that Elon Musk will now disperse his manufacturing to other countries so that Tesla cannot be extorted by any one country.

  44.  @youxkio  I presume they would try their hardest, and would get a percentage, but much less than the 100% they get in peace time. Oil would be a bad problem. However, if a pipeline can be built from Iran, that might solve that problem. Biggest problem would be food. Fishing would be almost totally stopped. Other imported food would be stopped as well. China is now a net importer of food, so that would be its greatest problem, I think. If is a big rice producer. Is that enough?? War is horrible, and seems to never work out as leaders think at the start. Civil War, WW1, and WW2 were supposed to be short wars, as thought by the ones who started them. The wars were long, and they lost. Wars do tend to favor the ones with greater resources. So, US would likely win. But, that doesn't always work out -- look at our Revolutionary War. The weaker side won that one. War?? Best to avoid one.

It gives the MIC in the US the justification it needs to design and build newer better weapons in quantity. US has the F-35 and F-22 --- yet it is spending Billion$ on a new 6th gen aircraft, which might be hypersonic. So, thanks China. Keep up the lies. We appreciate it.

  48. Surprising to hear new home prices recovering but used home prices still falling. Chinese seem to oddly prefer new homes. Personally, I am biased against new homes, and for older homes. If you buy new, you really have no idea what you are getting. You will be stuck with poor workmanship, and have to fix things. When you buy used -- you know what you are getting. You can see what works and what doesn't, and adjust your offer accordingly. The lower price means you can fix or replace things when they break down. A 100 year old home will easily last another 100 years with decent care. New home?? Who knows??

  50. Taiwan is increasing its missile production from 200 to 500 missiles per year, approximately. I think Taiwan already has 1000 to 2000 anti-ship missiles, which makes a successful invasion from China nigh impossible. In a few years, Taiwan will have 3000 to 5000 missiles. How can a Chinese invasion fleet survive??
