  1. Ericsson is deciding to stay in China??? I will take bets that Ericsson will regret staying. The CCP's anti foreign and anti private business laws and attitudes will make sure of that. I give Ericsson 3 years for them to realize they need to go.

  2. I suspect that the BRI projects in Africa are pissing people off. The BRI Chinese projects bring in Chinese workers, and don't use local people. So the wages paid don't go into the local economy. No training either. I think local people in Africa resent China for this.

  3. China's perceived position of leadership in economy, manufacturing, and technology is more from expectation than accomplishment. It did dominate in low value manufacturing, like consumer electronics, sub-assemblies, and knick-knacks. Now, under Xi, that is going away quickly. China is a basket case, and is coming undone.

  4. A major problem China faces is that, as its manufacturing economy collapses, it cannot go back to what it was in 1970. The hundreds of millions that left their farms to live in cities and work in factories cannot merely return to the farms. Poor farmers can grow their own food - be subsistence farmers. Subsistence farmers will survive without government assistance. HOWEVER -- now hundreds of millions unemployed and urban poor will REQUIRE governmental aid, or they will starve and die. I doubt the CCP is prepared. I doubt the CCP is even willing to address the problem. I fear a catastrophe is coming in China. Tens of millions, and maybe hundreds of millions, will die.

  7.  @sungpyun7953  Climate change is mostly a calculated future than a current happening. Most of what you hear is from people and journalists who don't really know what they are talking about. CC is real, but mostly misunderstood. Global temps have increased about 2 degrees Fahrenheit in past 100 years. But, it is feared that it will increase by 6 degrees or more in the future. If you are interested, I could point you to some good info.

  8. China is in for a bad time. I think they are entering, or about to enter, a depression. I think their debt and real estate bubbles are about to burst. They should have burst long ago, but the CCP finagled the books. But, financial book juggling can go on only for so long. This will be like watching the world's biggest train wreck in super slow motion.

Many leaders don't like dealing with US firms because they can't give as nice side deals. What is worse for Chine, though, is China does not hire local people to do work. People see project being built in THEIR country, and NO locals working on it. Very unpopular.

  18. A civilian RO/RO ship cannot put amphibious vehicles in the water off-shore. That is what an Amphibious Assault ship does. RO/RO needs a dock. If I am wrong --- please correct me, and explain how it can be done. Thanks

  20. The various departments within the CCP do not talk to each other. China repeatedly does actions that go against the interests and goals in another area. The new security law tells foreign business executives and tourists -- WE DON"T WANT YOU, GO AWAY. And then, their trade offices and finances industry scream for foreign companies. Chinese cities and hospitality industry screams for tourists, who will not come. China - country run by idiots.

  23. Only 50 years? Skyscrapers here in Chicago that are 120 years old are all doing fine. With normal maintenance, buildings should last centuries. The Pantheon in Rome is 2000 years old. I would never hire a Chinese firm to build anything. Crap standards.

  24. Regarding the outflow of capital --- How much of it belongs to foreign investors and companies that are taking their investments and profits??? And, how much of it belongs to Chinese citizens and companies that are their money out of the country??? I presume the latter is illegal, and there are barriers to be dealt with.

  28. For 2000 years, imperial China's imperial management was always riddled with corruption. Positions were bought & sold. They had no concept of an "Inspector General". Look at the burning grain silos. The report says how they burn when an inspection is announced. Everyone knows that inspections must be unannounced. Or else, temporary measures are taken to cover up problems, or to direct the inspector to good areas. The announcements are done to allow officials to conceal or destroy evidence. Since this has been going on for 2000 years, it will be very difficult to change deeply ingrained cultural behavior.

  29.  @Jake-dh9qk  Not really. The early Roman Republic was not riddled with corruption like imperial China. With China the corruption was part of the culture. It was institutionalized. It took it to a whole other level. Also, some unique countries. The Swiss Confederation has been remarkably free of corruption for 700 years. There will always be instances, but in China, it was EVERYONE during Imperial Rule. The corruption was codified. BTW..Rome got more corrupt after it became an empire.

There are videos showing the static emptiness of Shanghai harbor. There are videos showing the shuttered and empty factories. There are reports of Samsung, FoxConn, Apple, and so many other companies having left China. Japan finances the evacuation from China by Japanese companies with billions of dollars. Haven't you been following any of these events?

  35. Actually, the same if PLA tries to invade Taiwan. Taiwan has thousands of anti-ship and anti-air missiles, some with ranges over 250 miles. Taiwan can pump hundreds of missiles on Shanghai. Taiwan is well defended. Taiwan would be no pushover.

  36. I doubt the ability of China to intercept missiles. That requires truly effective systems to target, track, and ECM to prevent jamming, and thus hit an incoming missile. If this cannot be done, then even 40 year old Harpoon missiles will sink their ships. Taiwan has 2000+ anti-ship missiles. Taiwan missiles have advanced avionics and ECCM capabilities. If there is ANY weakness in China's missile defenses, Taiwan will obliterate its invasion fleet before the US has a chance to put its boots on to help.

China has threatened war with Canada, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, India, Philippines, and Vietnam. That is why AUKUS was created. That is why Philippines has invited the US to occupy 4 bases.   46. I don't think so. By "condominium" he meant an apartment in a residential tower. My point was that condos are homes, just as free standing houses are homes. Each require money to own, and are an investment by the owner and his/her family.

  47. We learn of only a few of the situations of unpaid workers. Workers all across China are not getting paid. I suspect the problem is bigger and more widespread than reported so far. Covid stopped people from shopping at places like GOME. The real estate collapse has caused workers in that sector to not get paid. Local governments can no longer raise money from housing speculation, so local government workers are often getting only partial pay. Money people invested in homes is now lost, so they cannot spend. Xi and the CCP have have shown their ignorance of how economies work. Their rules and regulations are destroying China's economy and its new middle class. The poverty China knew in the 1960's will now return.
