  2. China's economy is int its death throes. It won't be coming back. Xi (in his infinite wisdom, may he reign for 1,000 years) has killed the Chinese eoconomy. Wolf Warrior diplomacy has made people hate and despise China. China's constant threats of war, belligerency, and killing of fishermen around the world disgusts everyone. Factories have been built, and now orders are moving to other countries. Companies are leaving, and they won't look back.

  7. China's behavior is schizoid. On one hand - China says welcome to China, we are making visas easier for you. On the other hand - China says "foreigners stay out", you are a threat, and can be arrested and sent to prison for taking pics, or doing any normal activity which can be deemed as "spying".

  14. This is what happens when a government does not care about business or businesses. The Communist CCP views businesses as evil, and profits as evil. They don't understand that the country and the government needs a healthy business sector to enable the government to function. How will China build and maintain its infrastructure now that the real estate sector has collapsed? How will China expand and maintain its new navy and military if it cannot tax the business sector? How can China start and win a war to get Taiwan, if it cannot finance a war??

  21. I wonder if Xi's policies come from China's history?? Since its first empire, the policy of every emperor was to partake in trade as a seller, not a buyer. Buying diminished the wealth of China, and thus the power of the Emperor. That was the cause of the Opium Wars. England could not afford the tea it was buying. England was running out of silver. The fact that China has achieved its current level of wealth by being a full participant in foreign trade -- as both a buy and seller -- is lost on Xi and the CCP. Even now, China has been a reluctant buyer of foreign finished goods. Even the luxury cars it buys, are often made in factories in China. The behavior of Xi and the CCP of the past few years has been more like the actions of a Chinese Emperor and his eunuch's, than a Communist government. China has adopted the old attitudes of the being the Middle Kingdom. Notice how it so often makes demands of other countries, instead of using normal diplomacy? Remember, the modern nation state and diplomacy is a recent creation in Europe. Xi and CCP run China as an Empire. At least, that is how it seems to me.

  22. In western "capitalist" countries - people are protected by -- 1. Bankruptcy laws. 2. Collateral -- a home loan is collateralized by the property. If the buyer defaults, the bank can seize the home. If it does -- that is it. The bank can not go after the borrower for anything else. The collateral satisfies the terms of the loan. China's Communism is worse than any capitalist country.

  30. The popular press loves to tout China, and BRICS. BRICS is absurd. It is not an alliance, or a trade organization, or anything. BRICS is a random set of countries with little binding them together.

  32. What the CCP does not understand is the lack of foreign, especially American buyers, come from decisions made by those companies, not the US government. The reasons foreign buyers are not coming are these == 1. The CCP constant talk of war with Taiwan creates risk for buyers, You see, if a war broke out, maritime trade in the South and East China Sea's will be stopped. Maritime insurance is not available in a war zone. So, buyers may not get their goods. That is a serious risk. 2. Foreign businessmen no longer feel safe in China. Abusive arrests and harassment makes them feel unsafe and unwanted. Even if a company wanted to do business with China, how can they, if their executives won't go?? 3. On top of that, the Chinese executives may not be able to leave China to do business. If foreign businessmen cannot get in, and Chinese businessmen cannot get out --- how can they get together to do anything??? 4. Lastly, and this might be the most important, is that western companies may not trust Chinese contracts, or their enforcement in China. Western companies need to trust contracts and the legal mechanisms for enforcing them. Who can trust the CCP and China?? They have proved themselves to be fickle friends.

  34. To think China's problems started in 2019 is both ignorant AND stupid. First, the unsustainability of China's real estate development model had been obvious for 20 years. What amazed everyone is that the bubble had not yet burst. It burst soon after 2019. Second, China was causing the imposition of ideology into world trade. US and Europe have only REACTED to China's actions. Fu Peng needs to read more history (Bretton Woods, IMF, World Bank, UN, and other post WW2 institutions and WHY they were created). Fu Peng's understanding is simplistic and misleading.

BUT - they abuse Philippines, India, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Canada, Australia, and others. All are customers. Is it surprising they are losing customers? Is it surprising that nations they deemed enemies would be allies and increase military spending? Yet Xi and CCP act surprised. Are they stupid or merely ignorant?

A sort of union of US, India, Japan, Australia, and the ASEAN nations is forming. China will find itself unwelcome in its own neighborhood. How will China survive as its exports drop?? China won't have money for its OBOR efforts, or even to modernize its military. China is in deep deep trouble, IMO.

  45. @Finn Hansen The US has always been of two minds. There was strong opposition to the Mexican American War in the 1840's. Also, it was opposition to having a colony, that Philippines was promised its independence before WW2 started. Having the Philippines did not sit well. Pro-war and anti-war factions have both existed for a long time. In fact, the anti-war faction was very strong before WW2, and FDR had to deal with the "isolationists", as they were called. Now, pro-war factions exist in both parties. The anti-war faction seems to be only in the Democratic party now.

  46. IMO, corruption in Xhina is misunderstood. When corruption is normal and expected it us no longer corruption, it is culture. The PLA is operating the same way armies in China have always operated. That is why Chinese armies have always been weak when fighting external armies. China has always ruled with the selling of positions. To get an official to do their job for you, you had to give a "gift". That was normal and expected. That is culture, not corruption. Taiwan has changed,imo, and has a more western attitude. Taiwan's army will be more disciplined, better trained, and more effective.
