As a small business owner I have to admit that being forced to pay for another stat holiday as an apology to indigenous peoples for the government letting Preists molest them and residential schools to destroy their culture seems a little unfair. If The government was the one paying wages for that day, I would actually think it was about the importance of that very real issue rather than politicians buying votes with my money. I'd much rather see a long-term strategic plan that puts money in communities, clean drinking water, actual economic development that is sustainable for the long-term and education for not just indigenous communities but for Canada as a whole. But nope, I just get to pay for my staff not to come in for a day they'll never even think about.  The system works.

Sadly, the fact is that both parties in our corporate duopoly have vested interests in China that remain undisclosed but I would say the fact that both voted for the anti-worker FIPA China trade agreement in 2012 says everything about what both parties want (corporate hegemony over workers under the guise of national trade). PP can make all the political hay he wants out of this but you can rest assured that he would do pretty much the same thing f**** thing with China as his party also prefers corporations over people. Just look at Polllievere's colleague in the conservative's last government John Baird who went to a literal gold mine and Chinese billionaires office after serving as foreign Minister. You couldn't write this level of corrupt s*** and have it believable on a TV show. The system works.

Then in order to partially pay for this loss of revenue they attack programs for the poor, services for the rest of us and try to start the road to healthcare privatization. The reason I say "partially" is due to the fact that almost every conservative government has added more to the deficit than the Liberals (*except for Trudeau who's a terrible leader but changing a corporate hack who's nauseating to just bring in another one who's signature is petty cruelty and corporate giveaways isn't better). Sadly he will be our next PM as we have a First Past the post electoral system rather than Proportional Representation guaranteeing that we have to choose between the corrupt woke Liberals or the corrupt and mean spirited Conservatives. Well, let's remember that Harper fought the Toronto G20 Summit case (the most arrests of protestors, EVER) against his government's abuse of power and eventually in the supreme Court lost to the tune of 16 million. I'm glad the court rejected the Liberals abuse of power as well because I know once one Party gets away with it, both parties will abuse it again once they get back in power. The system works.

  33. Vancouver has had non-stop development, yet housing prices have almost doubled in 10 years. The housing was just bought by the real estate developers that donated to the local politicians and sold to sit empty as investments for the wealthy and offshore money. You could cut down every last tree but the development community and the politicians they buy will always artificially inflate prices to profit off a human necessity. The answer is both to increase supply through government incentives but also severely restrict the commodification of real estate Canada.

  35. Canada's border accounts for considerably less than 1% of drugs or refugees than Mexico does, so this obviously has nothing to do with that whatsoever. However, Trump is ONLY allowed to start a trade war without Congressional approval, IF it is "security" related, hence the nonsense about drugs coming from Canada. He intends to extort Canadians to enrich certain corporations and himself at the expense of average Americans. Oil will be exempted because he understands that most Canadian Conservative politicians will gladly sell out the rest of Canadians to ensure that their donors in the oil industry are still profitable as that's who they actually serve (* you can't get a cushy corporate board seat after politics if you didn't deliver the goods).
