Pay off your mtg. and self-insure!
4
@jonathanjacques7250 I know, right?! But then he couldn't feel like the victim, which is always the Democrats' goal.
4
@irritatedkitty7301 This law already exists for very poor owners' homesteaded property. But they have to file a public disclosure of their finances each year to qualify for it.
4
Because in America, there are numerous situations in which there are literally no other options for paying some items except by check. Not safe ones, anyway. And cash is still used here by a good number of people to pay bills, too. Or to simply purchase something without Big Brother knowing about it, lol.
4
Yes, one of them hit my daughter's car and totalled it. He had no license and no insurance!
4
To be fair, insurance companies have the right to make a fair profit, but they couldn't in FL, so many left. The legislature is phasing in a plan where everyone with homeowners will also have to have flood insurance in order to bring down the costs. So they say and hope, but I'm not buying it. Not sure there IS a fair solution.Citizens Insurance is the best that can be done.

Thanks for keeping us updated on FL bills being considered pertaining to RE, Michael. Very interesting!
4
And no need to create the sets, lol!
4
I love having no mortgage in retirement. No mortgage on my rental house, either.
3
Glad you could help your mom out and that she's doingbetter now.
3
Yes, I learned that too.
3
I agree. None of this affected newer condos, which is not what most Miami beachfront condos are.
3
@kristinab1078 Way lower than I pay on my FL house!
3
@danman1287 I think I made a good decision to drop my homeowners' insurance after34 years and no claims. But I'm in N. FL, on fairly high ground for FL. And Michael forgot to factor in the fact that deductibles make homeowners' even more expensive. I always had a fairly high deductible all those years, and would've had to meet my deductible anyway, before insurance would pay for any damages I could've had.
3
It's a shame what has happened to the blue states.
3
Hurricanes come directly off bodies of water to DECIMATE, by wind damage. Live at least 25 miles from a coast and your insurance rates will be lower, no flood insurance required.
3
New law in FL the legislature just passed. Permitless Carry. Not as good as constitutional carry, though.
3
Yes. And FL prices will crash again, like they did in 2006-2008.
3
Congratulations! Well done!
3
You must not be listening.
3
😂
3
How is it a reverse mortgage? It's a secondmortgage, as Michael stated.
3
The quality, knowledge and willingness (to properly advertise a seller's home) of real estate agents has fallen SO far from where it was 40 years ago, it is shocking! Most of them today are also as unprofessional as fast-food burger-flippers.
3
@Noworries-PU7ye That's not true, and anyone who reads the FL statutes regulating insurance (OIR) can learn all about how insurance is regulated here.
3
@Boomercon3000 Ha! Not in FL. Cops will haul your butt outta there, and put yourbelongings on the curb.
3
Evenbetter: pay off your mortgage and self insure, if you can.
3
Citizen's MUST insure you UNLESS they can find you insurance elsewhere, and if they have to find it, instead of you, it'll cost you big time!😮
3
My son and his family live in Portland and want to buy a house there. (NOT where I'd choose to live, but they're adamant.) They're just starting to look. I hope they come to their senses, because OR is way too expensive, among other things.
3
Good luck with that, lol!
3
I like N. FL. Grew up in "Old FL" in PB County, but it's been ruined, IMO. N. FL still a bit more like S. GA, and much less expensive than farther south. Weather better, too.
3
@kingbradentucky Not true, and FL gets fewer federal dollars than you think! FL has a budget SURPLUS, while blue states run a deficit every year!
3
@robertbrown1021 Pre-nup doesn'tmake sense for two people who are just starting out and in their twenties or so. But if you're older and on your second or third spouse, it does, brcause by that time you each have individually owned assets and kids from prior marriages. Simple as that. But first time around? No wsy.
3
@valsomeone2180 I prefer the way houses were constructed years ago. Much sturdier, especially the rafters.
3
What are you talking about? Cite your evidence! I haven't found any "new laws" like this in FL Statutes.
3
@sluggosloan That's what Citizens' insurance does if they can find other insurance for you. Too many liars out there trying to get coverage through the state insurer of last resort (Citizens).
3
@swlc5555 That's what happened to me several years ago. Nice old home on 2 city lots next to my house was bought for 500k, and then immediately demolished for construction of huge ugly modern monstrosity that looks like a doctor's office or surgical center. With two or three front-facing garages!
3
It's almost the same in FL, where property taxes cannot go up more than a max. of 3% per year on homesteaded property. And FL also has Save Our Homes Amendment, which is even partially portable to the next home, if you sell and move.
3
@johnyvik7242 Buffett is probably one of the owners of the FED.
3
What planet do you live on?
3
But who's got time to go to the bank to purchase money orders? Or to deposit them? I hate when my tenant mails me a money order to pay rent, lol.
3
WTF is an estoppel fee on a condo, lol!
3
I was a child in 1950's-1960's FL, too! It was a true paradise, unspoiled and beautiful. Now it's a concrete jungle.
3
I'm in the same boat. And I like my neighborhood, plus I don't want the hassle of downsizing and moving. But I can't keep up the yardwork and maintenance much longer, either.
3
@eturn23 Yes, there is...at least for homeowners property insurance. After 33 years of paying for it, never making a claim, I'm out! I plan to self-insure from here on out, it'll be cheaper.
3
Wrong. But many homeless don't want to go to shelters because there are RULES theyhave to follow. Boo hoo.
3
@endofsociety Actually, SSI is welfare, different from SS. SSI is Supplemental Security Income.
3
Everyone pays for public schools, everywhere, if they own (or rent, for that matter.)
3
@Plutogalaxy I was thinking the same thing.
3
I agree! And get a good, thorough certified home inspector to inspect it prior to making an offer.
3
I ❤ North FL!
