  2. @Runk-u3y I think Putin has other and more active propagandists. That said Mearsheimer has done his share of bs. Perhaps the last time he had an interesting idea is when he opposed Ukraine giving up its nukes out of the concern that if it did then Russia would be tempted to attack it.

  3. He often is. But not always. Back in the 1990s he wrote against Ukraine giving up its nukes and pointed out that if Ukraine did then Russia may be tempted to attack it. Seems he lost his better judgement since that point.

  5. Very good question. Mearsheimer did predict that Putin wouldn't invade Ukraine (argued Putin wasn't that stupid) but since that didn't hold up Mearsheimer has gone on to making excuses for Putin.

  6. That was the agreement Putin had with Ukraine before he started the current war. As you can see Putin started the war anyway. Putin has been planning to attack Ukraine for years. To think this is all over NATO is to fall for Russian propaganda.

  8. So committed he put more rules on Ukraine than Israel and to took months, sometimes years, to get him to approve giving some kinds of weapons to Ukraine. Mearsheimer is really trying to spin things. I think you may have noticed.

  9.  @eugene7518  Because part of the reason Putin probably attacked Ukraine is to prevent its rise. Without Putin and his cronies keeping Ukraine down Ukraine has a lot of potential. Long term brighter future and better opportunities outside Russia than inside.

  10. I mentioned this earlier but I guess it is worth repeating.: Oblasts occupied by Russia voted to be independent of the Soviet Union. More recently a majority of each of them that was capable of voting in Ukrainian elections (not occupied by Russia) voted for current Ukrainian President Zelensky. Now Russia does like to fake holding referendums where the official results are lies made up in Moscow rather than people living in Crimea or Donbas. So right now Putin is trying to overturn the will of the local people by force in Donbas.

  12. Ukraine has something like $10 Trillion worth of minerals they can offer the EU in exchange for a half-way decent deal. Ukraine could be boost to the EU-especially if the EU manages to step up and ensure Ukraine is able to keep going.

Don't forget in 2014 the corrupt former President that ended up fleeing Ukraine got a few protests going by breaking his campaign promise to do a trade deal with the EU. Granted the protests grew very rapidly when he tried to force to disrupt the protests and that resulted in even more protests plus a backlash that scared him off but there is not dislike towards the EU by most Ukrainians.. very different from Russia and its history in Afghanistan. Or the US and its for that matter.
