  3. Maybe it's because I live in a hot state or because I'm hot blooded, but I'd rather have the thermostat a little higher. I set mine at 78F and I feel great. That said, even if the company set mine exactly where I like it, I still wouldn't cede control to them. I'd rather sink $100K into buying solar panels and going fully off grid than let them control anything I own.

  6. I can't seem to find anyone to agree with me on this, but freedom of movement is a right and the means by which you exercise that right are at your discretion, not the government's. I look at this the same way I look at the right to self defense, but oddly, most don't understand my position.

  10. I don't think these federated replacements will ever truly work out. The whole point of social media is to connect with people and federated replacements simply don't connect enough people. They lead to further isolation, both of communities in general and users that people just don't like. What we really need is one central authority that isn't evil. That will never happen, of course, but if we could find such a group of people, then that would be the way to do it. It's a shame so many evil people are in positions of power.

You don't need to worry about anticheat slowing "your" system down because you'll just pay the company more money or you'll buy a bigger and better computer just to get around the lag caused by the anticheat. Nope, because you stood your ground, you can game. No need to push them to port games to Linux, just pay more money.

  15. To be fair, Bluetooth barely works anywhere. Every time I connect a device to a new computer or phone or whatever, it takes a million tries to get it connected and then refuses to connect to anything else unless I force a disconnect on the prior device.

  20. I think to really have true security and privacy, we'd need to have an entirely new internet with a new standard. Just as a point of contention, I think the browser shouldn't report the height of the canvas or screen, and the width should be adjusted to account for a standard defined scroll bar so that everyone who has the same resolution but changes the scroll bar width would be reported as the same width.

  21.  @Wheagg  Technically it's not real JIT, rather it compiles everything before it then runs it and it stays in memory. Real JIT would alter the code as its running to optimize it further. Though it's still impressive to think that most of the system is compiled at start up instead of pre-emptively.

  28. I'm not so sure that it'll be a security issue being in the GPU, but definitely buggy. Sometimes the ordering really does matter and reordering stuff seems like a bad idea no matter where its being executed from.

You're looking at the guns as unique and the qualifying part of the stat when it's violence that is the qualifier. If you're murdered, are you going to care whether it was with a knife or a gun. No, you aren't, and it doesn't matter. To equate things the way you are is misleading at best, evil at worst. Violence is violence.

  30.  @nogo7277  I can't provide links on YT, but what you're talking about is misleading with stats. Homicides are being counted falsely because they label any death with a gun a homicide, but that word has a very specific definition, and two thirds of gun related deaths are in fact suicide, and a portion of the remainder are from self defense and not homicide.

  31. Yes, exactly, and Epic should be shamed for it. I think UE is the best engine there is, but I refuse to use it because of this. Not that I'm too cheap to pay money for one, but if the barrier to entry is them knowing who I am before I've got a product ready, then they've lost me. I'm sure at least a few others feel the same way. One of the myriad reasons I use so much open source software, no one gets to know who I am unless I want them to.

  32. I'm continuing to think that making a new internet and starting from scratch isn't such a bad idea. I've been developing my own programming language and part of what I want to use it for is to replace all web technologies in one go. For a while there I thought there's no way anyone would use it and almost gave up on it. With what I've been seeing the past few years I'm thinking that I should hurry up and finish it and release it to the wild because it feels like people need it now more than ever.

  34.  @arandomhumanbeing2464  Working differently doesn't mean worse. iOS users expect things a certain way, so a feature might only get copied once they can figure out how it works in their ecosystem, and sometimes it doesn't which is why not every feature gets copied. On a tangent, what does that say about Windows when it copies all of its ideas from elsewhere and makes them worse?

I don't know about you, but I'd love see websites that just used TeX to layout everything and reserve any programming for offline usage. Maybe go back to the separate applet like when java was still used, but with a better language than java.

Except Tim Sweeney has stated in the past that they don't have the rights to release the source code for any of the third party tools and libraries they used. This is definitely a part of why our copyright lifespans need to be reset to what they were in the 1790's.

  48.  @tunina6421  As someone who has been using Linux for over 20 years I find that funny, in a rather macabre way. It's actually as easy to use as Windows and often easier, as well as definitively more secure. Our government is a joke, but that's par for the course as most governments around the world are.

  50.  @schwingedeshaehers  You can download it for "free" regardless of OS you use, but you have to give them your information to do so. I don't have a problem with building it myself. I don't even object to their license for using the source code, which is actually rather generous to indie developers. It's the information they want for mere access that I object to. Perhaps you think that's a weird stance, but that's just how I feel about it.
