  1.  @cageybee7221  yeah, I'd only even consider it with massive checks on it's use...like needing more than just a judge to sign off on it and if it goes poorly, the police chief/sheriff/etc is fired and barred from working in law enforcement again (no exceptions) and an immediate criminal investigation from a higher-authority agency (state police if county police fuck it up, FBI if the state police fuck it up) is required to be opened immediately with all records immediately turned over. In other words, maybe I'm willing to listen to an argument for NNRs if you can convince me that you're super-duper extra-sure with a cherry on top and everyone in charge, not just the people rushing in with guns drawn is willing to put their ass on the line in case they made the wrong call, even if it seemed perfectly reasonable at the time...but until that's the kind of conversation we're having, I'm pretty sure we're killing way more innocents than the tactic could possibly be saving, so I'm gonna have to go with "you've got a lot of tools at your toolbelt. Stop acting like you're itching to go larping like you're the main character in some FPS where you get to pretend you're an operator."

  6. Reminder: the "pro-life" side never really was about the life of the fetus. If it was they would actually look into how to most effectively accomplish those ends, find that comprehensive sex ed+free birth control+ending poverty were the best ways to do that and push policies to those ends harder than any progressive could match. But they don't because it's not about life. It's about punnishing women for sex.

  7. We really need to stop calling them centrists at all and bring up by any definition outside of the current climate in DC, that Bernie is what centrism looks like. His platform is supported by most of the population, is considered moderate by most of the developed world, and is in the middle of nearly every spectrum of political thought. On ecnomics, he's about halfway between free market capitalism, and pure communism (both of which fail spectacularly). On war, he's neither a total pacifist, nor a hawk/imperialist. On civil rights, again, moderate as he doesn't support special rights/restrictions for any group. On scope of government, he neither wants an important nor tyrannical one. Etc. Bernie is what a real centrist looks like without the filter of the Overton window redefining the political spectrum.

  16.  @arkinyte13  I mean, letting Biden be tied to someone hated by everyone for 4 years doesn't sound so terrible of the realistic options if we don't eat our own progressive representatives alive over not making a purely performative vote. Not saying you specifically, but there are a lot of people that seem really eager to performatively denounce Bernie so they can feel like the bestest progressive if he doesn't vote no without considering the consequences.

He's had some takes here and there people will disagree with, but the idea that he was at all right-wing is absurd.

Lawrence Taylor true, but at a certain point, you expect to have that overshadowed by the process largely being hands-off except if something went wrong (at which point you would turn the machine off to fix the problem). The previews of the factories I saw years ago made it seem like it was mostly humans overseeing machines doing the work, as opposed to humans working in the middle of machines in operation. It seems that wasn't actually how they went on to run.

  44. America may have created the modern form of representative democracy, but we, sadly, still haven't thrown off the royalist mindset. Serfs look for leaders to follow. Citizens look for representatives to serve them. We got about halfway through that cultural shift in perspective and just stopped dead in our progress. It's not even that my countrymen are stupid (though some certanly are), but that they're just so incredibly juvenile looking for idols and surrogate parental figgures everywhere like teenagers from dysfunctional homes pretending to be adults well past the point when they're old enough to be grandparents.

Bernie gets only 1/3rd of the voters dispite being the most popular politician in the country with about 2/3rds support, and both of his supporters are men and appear to be the oldest on the pannel dispite Bernie being most popular with young people and women. Then they throw on only women who, statistically, don't represent the views of most women. This is a pannel curated by CNN to push an agenda, not a real reflection of voters.
