Everyone expected him to say "no." He did not say no. A lot of people were at odds with Katrina after she and her late husband refused to join the Russia conspiracy theorists.

  12.  @markmarshall5234  What does cut and paste prove? A lot of people have Jews among their ancestors, especially in Russia and Ukraine. That doesn't mean they themselves are Jewish. Lenin's mother had some German Jewish ancestors on her father's side, and her maternal ancestry was Swedish. She was Russian Orthodox. This is from two centuries ago. If your maternal line is not Jewish and you do not convert to Judaism, you are not Jewish. Your father and your mother's father may be, but you are not, unless you convert. If your maternal line is Jewish and you convert away from Judaism, then you are not Jewish. There are a lot of ways not to be Jewish. Both of my parents had some Jewish ancestry on their fathers' sides, but it occurred to no one to consider them Jewish until Hitler showed up.

You must have seen the string of talking heads that said -- over and over -- that neo-Nazis could not be a major presence in Ukrainian militias because Zelensky is Jewish. It's ridiculous as a premise, but all right, I'll bite: show me he really is Jewish. The more it is repeated, the more skeptical I am. I'm not suggesting he's not. I'm saying I won't believe it absent more substantial evidence --- especially after the Canadian parliament fiasco. But that's just me, a born skeptic. 🤨

Dollar hegemony relies more and more on military might, not on the productivity of the real economy making settling accounts in dollars desirable. Even Adam Smith would condemn the power of the rentier class in power today as antithetical to real economic growth. I find it striking that the escalation of the war has not hurt Russia's standing outside the West. Really not at all. I am not Western, either, but I'm not so pleased by this. It's just not true that Putin has managed this correctly; the fact that the US and NATO are worse doesn't make him right. I hope the other BRICS members and their allies are approaching the US behind the scenes to implore them to end this proxy war. After all, China owns a good chunk of our debt. They don't want to pay for our Nazis.

You really think this person doesn't know that all things considered, what they did did not turn out to be terribly prudent? You really think the school's response was reasonable and proportionate? Whatever happened to detention -- with someone like you as the monitor? A couple of weekends like that and you can be sure a kid's behavior would be perfect from then on.

He interviewed some of the best doctors treating trans youth and showed how it is absolutely crucial to get the gender dysphoria diagnosis and treatment right. When clinicians work together and work hard to make that happen, the results are remarkable. The goal is not pills and surgery, the goal is a happy and fulfilled human being. Sometimes that requires surgical intervention and hormone support -- and sometimes not. Sometimes the surgery is like a miracle, the person emerging from it happy for the first time in their lives, and other times there is a need for more therapy. That's what I got from Singal's article. Does everyone have to be the same? I hate to disappoint you, but . . .

I'm not against taking a critical look at vaccines, strictly case-by-case, or acknowledging that their use has had a sorry history in the Third World, but blanket denunciations of vaccination has always been sheer nonsense, and continues to be nonsense. I have asked for more vaccines than the minimum recommended, based on my own research, and to be able travel freely without worry. Vaccination in general is a great thing. Has information about risk ever been suppressed? Has misuse of vaccines in the global South ever been hushed up? Yes and yes. I'd still take a flu shot, pneumonia shot, tenanus booster, or meningitis shot this minute.

The invasion of the Americas by Europeans proved that. So did polio, a crippling disease that at times was associated with excess hygiene early in life. Shocking but true. The idea that Virtuous Diets or Healthful Outdoor Exercise can prevent all illness is social Darwinian claptrap.

As for making my own personal decision, right now I am reading peer-reviewed journal articles on mRNA published before 2019, for example. My mind is open. And in general, I support vaccination very strongly. In general. And I do not eat GMOs.

But it is not determinative. Sometimes the risk of NOT adopting the new technology is greater. I don't know whether it is this time.

(As an aside: The WHO could not be bribed to go along, and said a GMO in food must be proved safe for humans case by case, properly invoking the Precautionary Principle. This is an example of evidence-based human nutrition, actually.)
