Because everywhere you look you yourself can see that people without any obvious virtues, who are not even particularly hard working, have tons of money. Then someone comes along and says, "I'll tell you the secret. "
3
@emersonmanning6523 Why do you need to speculate on this? You have no evidence. I really don't understand. This is how you feel smart?
3
Sorry that happened to you! Night terror, not a small thing.
3
It's called making money in the new media.
3
May I ask you a few things about that? Is this because narcissists are able to convince you that no one will ever believe you, and that everyone will take their side? Is that how they operate? The reason I ask is because I'm trying to understand; once you do know what they did, and that you were not responsible in any way, what interrupts your recovery apart from the memory of the trauma itself? Do you think it could be repeated, that "there is nothing to stop it," and similar thoughts? I've had experiences like that, though not as severe, and I'm still trying to sort it out. When it's over, why isn't it over for the target? What makes it persist?
3
@zenawarrior7442 Right. He also mentioned how unusual it was for one investigator in a case to disagree completely with the state's theory, and how many pieces really don't fit the leading theory. But you already skipped over that and got to personality analysis. Someone else needs to get a life.
3
@zenawarrior7442 What part of "the alternative theory is not implausible" is such a shock to the system? It's just true.
3
@zenawarrior7442 Wow. Blocked.
3
@karenvickery6070 Because exercising your right to remain silent and your right not to voluntarily subject yourself to police interrogation is not a grounds for arrest. It's not a crime. Being one of the last people to see a missing person is not a crime. What I don't see is why possession of her van was not treated seriously. At best, she was left without her transportantion and her dwelling, far from home in an inherently dangerous area without nearby shelter. Why isn't THAT a crime? Why do you focus on urging police to violate people's rights? You don't see enough of that around?
3
@karenvickery6070 EXACTLY. He can refuse to speak. They had no WARRANT to arrest him. A person doesn't need a lawyer to say to the police, I'm not coming in for questioning, I am asserting my right to remain silent. If the police made you think otherwise, guess who misled you? If the police show up at your house, and you refuse to come in for questioning, what happens next, do you think? They grab you and make you talk? The law does not prevent law enforcement from establishing a surveillance perimeter outside his residence, or anyone's, as already explained. They do it all the time.
3
@karenvickery6070 If you're an American, how is it that you don't know the Bill of Rights? The police cannot make anyone talk. The police can't make Ted Bundy talk. You don't need to pay a lawyer to tell them that for you.
3
@thekurtcobainfoundation4200 It's unbearable to me how many of these innocent women end up murdered. Most people will imagine they would know better, or that the women should have known better, or something. Whistling in the dark! I want to know.
3
@AmyCeleste I feel I need much more insight. I know I am not a great judge of character. Well, actually, my instincts are excellent, but I will talk myself out of them all the time. I don't know why I do that. :/
3
@AmyCeleste Also, there were four children in this picture. What happened to them?
3
The real problem was that NO ONE she confessed to did a thing. No one. That there are a handful of murdering psychopaths in the human population is no surprise. The fact that others will tiptoe around them, and allow them to continue even after they confess, is more than anyone should be asked to bear. Don't tell me we'd resist Nazism. No we would not.
3
If it were real love, it would be selfless toward such a young person. They'd at the very least wait for the young person to graduate and turn 18 before approaching them. The relationship would have some idealism about it. I do know people who married their FORMER teachers, quite a few in fact -- but none were minors (or students of that teacher) when the first dated.
3
There have also been a ton of truly unhinged rumors. I suspect the craziest of them might be false flags.
3
@user-ro9md9wp3j By thinking, rather than through your usual, ingrained tropisms. Also, have a physical dictionary handy, possibly.
3
@rockyevans1584 The footage I saw has her admitting to police she struck him and blaming her psychological issues. I am so sorry she did that. Parents must teach their kids to state "I feel unsafe." Notice how he knew to remain silent!
3
@lorrainesheil2890 Of course. The police saw marks on his face, but not on hers -- which does not mean she had no marks, just that they were not visible. Then she made admissions to them. In emotional moments, WE ALL DO. You have got to be trained not to. You also have to be trained to talk to police where you know for certain the other person cannot overhear. I could see myself making the same mistakes at her age, easily.
3
This is the first time I have ever seen the National Lawyer's Guild and the American Conservative Union (and others) file a joint amicus brief in support of a petition for certiorari to the Supreme Court. It was denied.
3
I thought an intake requires determining next-of-kin and whom to notify in the event of an emergency, and whether anyone has power of attorney for health care. Oh well.
3
@wesleyorange8133 Gross negligence and first degree murder are not the same crime. That is not to minimize negligence. Neglected children often die.
3
Did David give Gail a raise? Just curious.
3
@gewurztramina And you believe them -- why? It could be true, sure. Or not.
3
Rittenhouse was reckless when he fired the first four shots, with McGinnis, an innocent bystander, in the line of fire. With bystanders around, the question whether four were necessary for self-defense is immediately raised. Grosskreutz testified he believed -- rightly or wrongly -- that Rittenhouse was an active shooter. Sworn testimony is evidence. Huber's filthy house is not. Having said that, I always oppose charging minors as adults. This kid was misled and ill-served by many adults around him, and did not finish his junior year of high school. He did not get that weapon on his own. He didn't come up with the idea to be in Kenosha on his own, either.
3
@neongirluk He did not make any such claim. He reported that the assertion was made. This is accurate. If one person says something, and another person hears it, the latter can report hearing it as long as they make clear that they aren't endorsing it by reporting it. Another example: students report overhearing a school shooting suspect cry about having been bullied. That doesn't prove he was bullied. It's evidence that he once SAID he was bullied, and that he was crying when he SAID it.
3
@marciasloan534 If you know this person, get away. Do not give him any warning. Be very quiet and very careful not to betray the slightest sign of your plan. Think up some huge flaw (in his eyes). Hint that you have to be tested for breast or colon cancer, for example. He'll drop any friendship with you. I am telling you exactly what I would do. I am not kidding. After a while, change your phone number. Get a post office box. I'm assuming that moving is too difficult. Move if you can. Make sure some close family member who you can trust knows something about it. Be careful what you tell them, too. If they might gossip, then don't tell them anything that could harm you or tip him off, if it ever got back to him. You asked this question for a reason. Respect that inner voice.
3
@meself349 I know. They love to jeer at others and never see themselves.
3
@Lindsey0007 I've also found that you really can't tell people you're on disability. It shouldn't matter, but it's just one more personal fact that you cannot share. I know people who have kept it secret from their closest friends, for a decade. It's ridiculous, because you should be proud to have perservered and earned the benefits you are entitled to. Getting proper benefits is hard. Good for you for sticking with it and getting them.
3
@traceynomatterwhat383 I am talking about him.
3
I'm afraid VAERS is overstating the danger. I have given up on American sources, and consult the foreign press, as well as peer reviewed journals. Politicization is the death of science.
3
@wandaburns8075 Intentional infliction of emotional distress is a possibility.
3
Yeah. It says we are surrounded by cultists.
3
NO, he has NOT "testified under oath" before Congress, at least not yet. Who told you he did?
3
@Mike Scott No he has not testified before Congress. Where did this rumor come from?
3
A generation after Columbine and states still have not managed to draft reasonable, constitutional laws to govern firearm use by minors, or anyone. Do YOU want to live in a society where a minor can strap a (I better not call it assault-style) rifle across his chest and strut his stuff?
3
@ashleighsparkle8810 There is no good way for this to end.
3
@JillJ-y5f Try learning to read before you tell other people what to do.
3
@Jeremy Dionisio This has nothing to do with sympathy. It has to do with analysis and prevention. Your suggestion that unstable people should not be in relationships does not sound to me like it is going to save the next young woman. I don't disagree. I think it won't work. Did you see the 60 Minutes Australia interview of Gabby's mother? She had not one bad word to say about Brian. In fact, she said Brian liked to read to Gabby's youngest sibling. Gabby's mother comes across great. Intelligent, aware, and honest. So . . . She spotted nothing? Maybe we need to think this through.
3
@montybonza879 1. If it was all about control, why did he fly out to Florida in the middle of the trip, then return and rejoin Gabby? She was alone out West for days. 2. Gabby's mother said she saw nothing in Brian that worried her. She gave a lengthy interview to 60 Minutes Australia, and she seemed very aware and intelligent, not like someone pushing her daughter to please males but like a truly nice, intelligent, astute person who was completely blindsided. 3. Who would dare defend Brian now, and face a mob? What would be the point? Clearly he is responsible for some despicable actions that those who knew him did not expect from him. Why weigh in, call negative attention to yourself, and risk hurting Gabby's family and friends who have been wronged and are innocent as lambs in this tragedy? Figuring out what happened might help someone else. Competing to see who can say more bad things about the bad man is not going to help.
3
@LaurenThompsonIsMyRealName All the more reason to steer clear, if true.
3
Yes, great comment.
3
But you don't work as a spy in other countries, either, I'm guessing.
3
I wish I was surprised.
3
@suprcrzy This is ridiculous. You are spinning out a scenario about "civilians" that never happened. The officers surrounding this car were all armed and vigilant and trained. This CIVILIAN posed no threat to them, as was explained carefully. Why do you ignore that fact? Amateur eugenics?
3
@brianclingenpeel5123 Except that that's not what happened. But if you feel like that's what happened, then that's all that matters. An' don't you let anyone say different! Big boy! 🤩😘😘
3
@yoyo762 Who is justifying it? That woman shouldn't fly. She's not well.
3
@yoyo762 People in this society always defend bullies and mob logic. It's the norm. You never know who the mob will swarm next, with their "based" slogans. You can check out the latest example right now, as a matter of fact: remember when Grande accused him of using horse dewormer?
3
Yeah, well, read the New Yorker for a more nuanced view. This was an underage kid from an impoverished, troubled background whose older sister participated in BLM protests. (That was why Rittenhouse said he agreed that BLM. In other words, and to sum it up, he's a kid.) These are exactly the kinds of kids that you do not shove into the arms of the far right. I really recommend those articles. Then Glenn Greenwald's analysis will make sense.
