  21. What you are describing is the free market. We don't have that. Concentrations of rentier wealth always try to escape free market discipline and extract wealth from the entrepreneurs who create and produce the wealth, as Adam Smith knew a century before Marx. Then Marx showed how the process itself inevitably devolves into monopoly capitalism, which destroys any possibility free market. But nevermind that. Adam Smith would be bliss compared to this. When you hear economists talking about "techno-feudalism," they are referring to Smith's analysis of how a free market, despite being so attractive and naturally robust, can be undermined.

  43. @p2pportal  Because that's how constitutional law works: the Bill of Rights limits governmental power, and the full extent of those limits was made applicable to the states upon the ratification of the 14th Amendment, together with a number of Supreme Court decisions that so ruled. Any state that wants to extend, for example, Fourth Amendment rights beyond what is found in the US Constitution is perfectly free to do so, as long as it doesn't interfere with any other state. Any state that wants to ban the death penalty, another example, is likewise free to do so --- it just can't refuse to extradite a suspect to a state with the death penalty.

The US has become a giant high school ("with money" --- Frank Zappa). I said the same thing about Justice Barrett, and my politics could not be more different from hers. A nomination (_any_ nomination, not her nomination) at that juncture should have been blocked ab initio, which the Democrats failed to do, but their minions took to Twitter, to smear her. It made me sick. Here, Shapiro admits BIDEN is responsible for the whole thing. I agree. Take it up with Biden. You don't cast aspersions on the candidate instead.
