  6. They are cosying up with China. Their top leadership has been visiting Beijing lately. SCS disputes dont affect normal business and diplomatic relationship. US has little influence among the other Asean members, outside of their former colony.

  7. They are already doing this, but in China. They invested in Chinese ev maker Xpeng as well as setting up an ev research and development centre in Hefei China. They can't do all this in Germany because most of the ev innovations are happening elsewhere.

  8. China is the largest trading partner of Asean. Bilateral trade total USD975 bilion in 2022. In fact Asean has surpassed US as China no 1 trading partner. Some of Asean countries may have some SCS disputes with China but these do not get in the way of business. Asean leaders are pragmatic. China is their neighbor not EU or US.

Despite the fact that some of them have ongoing SCS disputes with China. For them, China is their largest trading partner and they are part of BRI as well. They are just being pragmatic and stayed at the sidelines.

He's considered to be a China expert, notwithstanding his flawed prediction. He has changed his tune and claimed his original prediction was a bit premature but the collapse will happen. Eventually. Does he sound like a China expert to you?
