Honestly, something tells me you are missing the point of the Miata and the classic European sports cars.
1
@AndrasMihalyi - not quite. Primarily, Toyota wanted to keep the straight-6 alive.
1
Not quite. As the proposed design features the engine in front of the rear axle, it's really mid-engined.
1
Nope.
1
You might want to take a look at the LFA's racing history (specifically the Nurburgring).
1
Developing one, especially an engine configuration for just one car, is expensive. Coupled with more tightening environmental regulations, a wobbly economy, and the the rise of electric vehicles, it becomes less of a good financial proposition. The 2JZ isn't just found in the Supra, it also applies to a bunch of other Toyota vehicles (Soarer, Aristo, etc.). BMW can manage to produce a straight-6 constantly, so it's logical for Toyota to team up.
1
Not quite. There's the thing called "regulations".
1
Too late for that one, bud.
1
Something tells me you might want to look at the Aerovette concept.
1
Much of the cost would also include chassis reinforcement, bigger brakes, additional hoses, etc. just to account for the power increase.
1
Doesn't work that way, I'm afraid.
1
Until you do a hot lap around a circuit.
1
Not everyone is eyeing to beat the GT-R. Besides, we already have cars that equal (or surpass) the GT-R even at lower price points.
1
"but today,a miata is just slow" - not quite.
1
@egeayvala1799 - "well the NA Miata is not fast in a straight line" And that's the point of the point of the car. It's never meant to be a straight-line performer, but a nimble little roadster that breezes past corners with ease (a minivan, despite what many people say, isn't really suited for that). Besides, do we really need a lot of horses to be fast?
1
Making another straight-6 engine for today is expensive. On the Supra, the JZ is placed on a bunch more of the corporation's auto lineup.
1
In modified form... the same isn't exactly said for the stock ones.
1
Fortunately, not quite. Given the reception of the A80 back when it was sold new and the current economic situation, this is the best thing to happen.
1
"Price then could have been just under $100K..." - yeah, the moment you mentioned this, this actually becomes a bad idea... especially with the Corvette still around. Besides, there's the GR GT3's road car (or whatever's badged as) coming soon anyway,
1
@texan176 - I didn't say ZR1, just the Corvette in general (including the base models which the more well-off Joe could afford). Besides, you kinda forgot the part of transportation costs from Japan to the State.
1
Doesn't exactly work that way. Mazda partially conceived the Miata as a cheaper sportscar option compared to the RX-7 (especially in Japan where the cars are taxed based on dimensions and engine displacement). As for the "lack of horsepower", that's very debatable. Try finding one and give it a spin on the twisty backroads or on a local race track.
1
Not quite, bud. Besides, this isn't politics.
1
@joeyboikly - the video (about an expensive engineering exercise with racing pedigree) doesn't scream "anti-capitalist" the slightest. Besides, you don't even know what communism even means.
1
@joeyboikly - "if it don't make dollars it don't make sense." - you might want to re-watch the 3:40 part.
1
@joeyboikly - dude, you might want to cut the act. I can tell.
1
@Daniel-dj7fh - "I don't think the LFA played any role in this." - this is why I'll need to reiterate Akio's role (as briefly summarized from 2:45 onwards). Without him, the LFA would have been most likely shot dead before reaching production. In fact, him approving that car and racing that thing in the Nurburgring played a key role in shaping Gazoo Racing today.
1
@Daniel-dj7fh - except, not quite.
1
@Daniel-dj7fh - "if the yaris didn't take off that's what would have happened." - not quite, either. Or to be more precise, it misses a lot of contexts.
1
Except, not really.
1
McLaren more likely. The Caddy... well, the aero says otherwise.
1
A V-shaped engine is also an airplane engine back in the day...
1
Except, no. It's a spiritual successor to the 2000GT, not the Supra.
1
"If you are not part of the solution to reduce carbon emissions killing this planet, you are part of the problem." Not quite. Besides, the number of sportscars compared to a family sedan, hatchback, or SUV are way small. Doesn't also help that they are usually a little more expensive.
1
Not quite, bud.
1
Based on a volume-seller.
1
Not quite.
1
Which isn't exactly a mistake.
1
@razgul_nazgul - dude, are you sure you got your sources right? I checked the internet, and they still say it's expensive.
1
@bigrobsydney - unfortunately, the Cadillac has the aero and less weight, thereby it could zip past the corner faster than a Tesla.
1
Some examples are exported.
