Yeah, this section is shady AF.

@EPYes - the RC's platform isn't exactly good compared to the one the Supra uses.
2
The current car sticks with the straight-6, RWD, and two-door coupe formula while making it a more potent sportscar than the previous generations. Besides, the CEO was involved with the development, too.
2
You need to check out the sides of the Toyota 2000GT. That predates the original Z car.
2
@MKDC-5 - not quite. Besides, Subaru initially didn't want themselves in the project until Toyota bought some of Fuji Heavy Industries' shares.
2
Not quite. Still ZF-made, but Toyota-specific tuning.
2
Not quite.
2
At least in the US, it outsold the A80.
2
"Doesnt look like a supra" - so was the Mk. IV to the Mk. III, and that to the Mk. II "doesnt sound like a supra" - there are other straight-6s the Supra used in its run, not just the JZ series "doesnt drive like a supra" - sporty gran tourer compared to a more focused sports car
2
@johnwayne5830 - "Just slapped a supra badge on it only thing this and the original have in common." - the only things that are consistent are the use of a straight-6 engine and rear-wheel drive.
2
@BF109G4 - but did not race their Z4 while Toyota did with the Supra, even bringing along CEO Akio Toyoda in the 2019 24 Hours of Nurburgring. They even offer a GT4 racing version.
2
@carboydorifutoparty3976 - and besides, let's not forget that we didn't buy a lot of A80s back when they were brand new and some of us outright hated it at first.
2
And yet, we didn't buy a lot of them new and actually hated it at first.
2
It's actually 380 Stateside.
1
Nope.
1
Not really.
1
@not4younot4you70 - check GoodCarBadCar for the current Supra's NA sales figures.
1
And how heavy are the sedans and SUVs?
1
@lucky889s9 - a better question: How many "BMW" parts are actually made by BMW? Asking this because most manufacturers get their parts from external suppliers (ZF makes the transmissions not just for BMW, but other brands).
1
What about in a corner? Can a RAV4 do that?
1
@TroutFink - so, not quite? I did a bit of checking. An LE trim with AWD has 3,510 lb. curb weight vs. 2811 lb. for a base 2023 GR86. That's quite a lot of extra weight for the RAV4 to carry through a corner.
1
Not quite.
1
Eh, not exactly.
1
A "girl's car" that was test driven by professional Japanese drivers, including the Drift King Keiichi Tsuchiya.
1
@TheShangralaaaa17 - well, the nation's Super GT BRZ would like to say "hi".
1
Electric cars are older than gas-powered ones.
1
@ChickyRx - I was referring to the part, "who is buying this old technology ?" Just poking some fun at it.
1
Not quite. Supra back then was meant to be against the Z. In fact, it never was supposed to be a GT-R competitor to begin with.
1
I suggest looking at the Toyota 2000GT and compare it to the Supra.
1
@UnoB8938 - honesty, your opinion is very, very, very stupid. We're buying an 86 for the purpose of a purer, lightweight rear-wheel drive enjoyment with the chassis to match and at a price where people have better chances to buy (at least in America). Does the Mazda3 have any of that? I suggest doing laps on a local track as well. Power isn't everything.
1
@UnoB8938 - you're comparing a more premium econo hatchback to a more dedicated sports car that is more affordable and accessible to the masses, apples-to-oranges. Of course, it's wrong.
1
@UnoB8938 - again, apples-to-oranges. Besides, what other manufacturer besides Toyota and Mazda make a budget sports car that the average Joe has better chances to be introduced to sports car driving? Before I forget, most of the Mazda3 trims exceed 3,000 lbs. in terms of weight. The 86/BRZ weighs just above 2,800 lbs.
1
Until there is a corner up ahead.
1
No need, especially given Nissan's current situation. Plus, Toyota has a CEO that races every so often. Besides, the GT-R is already in the 6-figures.
1
@MidNiteR32 - not really a wet fart.
1
Not exactly. He let off the gas.
1
@tone3560 - no, seriously. Look and listen at 13:02.
1
If any car is to be sold specifically in the Japanese market, then it's JDM.
1
Not really.
1
Okay, let's see. If that's the case, explain how: - they won last year's Super GT season despite Honda having aguably a better car? - the GR Supra scored 3rd in class at the 2019 24 Hours of Nurburgring, arguably among the toughest endurance events? - won the 24 Hours of Le Mans?
1
@Transit_my-way - okay, I understand lol
1
Not quite. As a Subaru enthusiast myself, the BRZ is a different kind of car compared to the WRX. The former is focused on RWD fun.
1
@MauiWauiPineappleExpress - pretty simple: Toyota requested a straight-6 engine. And to make development costs more affordable for the Zupra.
1
A80 Supras back when they were new weren't even cheap to begin with (at least in NA).
1
"And we get a BMW without enough Horsepower and Torque! In my opinion." - it actually has a little more horsepower than you think, even if the model comes only with the 335 hp straight-6. "And a Turbo model would have been nice too." - it's all turbocharged.
1
@macaalf8219 - we need to clarify one thing: look up at the Toyota 2000GT. A lot of design cues are based on that car.
1
Not exactly. This gen fixed the torque dip (the actual problem of the first-gen car). Now it can pull away from heavy family sedans at the corners.
1
Not really.
1
Only 7 cars are recalled.
1
"Why didn't Toyota put awd in this car?" Simple, they want to keep the RWD heritage and focus on handling.
