Could be that was the thing he needed. Could be that those investors who shunned him actually invested ASTOUNDING value in him with their lack of acceptance. It gave him the perseverance to take the harder, alone road. There's always a chance they'd invested in him, then sold him off to some bigger company for a one-time payout deal and he'd have made less then he has now.

I mean, shit, most of them are SPONSORED by PC companies, so it makes it look real bad when their streamer has problems. If Markiplier, for example, has trouble running a game like this on his sponsor-provided Alienware setup, I'd probably reinforce my perception that AW is shit.
