And Greeks who voted populists and never bothered to learn basic economics.
177
Basically common problems, Italy just does better. Greece can be a cautionary tale you you guys. Glad if we can be of help for that.

Troika came AFTER we failed miserably. When we start to recover it leaves. Who would have thought!! Governments usually fail to explain to people how shitty the economy is, it takes some time until people realize it and so they believe that troika was the reason for failure. And when economy starts to recover, they leave but it also takes some time for people to understand so they believe that economy recovered because they left.

@furkanayas3339 And still poorer. It seems a trend : when people are forced to work so much, it means that there something wrong in the whole system. That's why the richest countries work way less and earn way more : PRODUCTIVITY and INNOVATION.
6
About the lazy part, you can read the latest EU "Average number of usual weekly hours of work in main job in Europe in 2022" So that you don't sound idiot.
4
There are practically no ghettos, property even in poorer neighborhoods is still of decent quality. If you come to Greece I can show you around since I live in one of the poorest suburbs. You can check the murder rate and see for yourself. Also, check the gini coefficient to see that Greece is more equal society than USA.
4
Someone called "Sanchez" was too lazy to watch the video or google about working hours for the average employee. Well.. no surprises there. Economy is too complicated for the simpletons.
3
@AnaCristinalolinsanches You embarrass yourself , why would I be offended? And of course you don't care what people think of you, otherwise you'd try to be a bit more educated about a subject before you comment. You would at least watch the video 😂😂
3
Number one in inflation. Turks are working for 400 euros per month and brag about it on youtube :)
3
@ionsulcina4091 When you grow up, you might learn a few things about how economies work. Until then you can google : List of countries by average annual labor hours I rest my case.
3
Where did you find this? What bs some people are so eager to believe 🤣🤣🤣
2
@Ridz149 Home ownership in Greece is 75%. Are you claiming that EVERYONE who is not owner is homeless and many of home owners are homeless too? That's the funniest claim I've ever heard!
2
They enjoy their peaceful lives in their own country without hurting anyone. They don't blow up, they don't murder infidels and they don't "honor" kill their wives and daughters.
2
... voters. Yes.
2
If we follow your logic, Egyptians are 1000 times more lazy, because they are way more poor.
2
@MajinOthinus You are right.
2
Your government is messing up the economy and uses IMF as a last resort to avoid bankruptcy. Then it blames everything on IMF.
2
It's a bit more complicated than that in state bonds, but basically they pay what needs to be paid when it's due. The debt is still very high, but installments are paid on time till now at least. And the debt isn't to Germany. It's too simplistic to see it like that.
2
Turkey's economy is even worse than Greece's. So, hell no!
2
Just for the next idiot who will claim similar, they can google the latest OFFICIAL survey from Eurostat "Average number of usual weekly hours of work in main job in Europe in 2022" And stop making stories from one's arse.
2
@AB-ov1zm . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal)_per_capita Greece is 49th country. Turkey for example, is 72. When you use too much lols, you sound uneducated.
2
Do you think the Spartans were rich? My god! Some people think hollywood is "history lessons" Let me guess, American?
2
@jasonpark1556 I take this as an admission that you are american.
2
You make it sound as if devaluing a currency is easy and painless option. Ask Turks how they feel about 100% inflation and ask Greeks if they feel jealous that Turks can devalue their currency.
2
Do you want to say "don't lend money to people who aren't honest"? I'd say that it's not that.
2
Mismanaging money and being lazy are very different things.
2
If you start borrowing and spending like that, definitely. If you use the cheap credit wisely you will see great improvement.
2
Turkish economy now is even worse. But no one gives a shit. No one likes you anyway, maybe because you make these comments which sound very rude to every educated person. You can rot in your middle eastern shithole and no one will ever notice.
2
So true.
2
true.

Not exactly, you can check the data about the average working hours. Greece is working more hours than Germany, so maybe you could check productivity.
1
@Ridz149 And since even the video just says about poverty, and not homelessness let's further check data: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_wealth_per_adult The median wealth per adult in Greece is 57,595 $ while in USA it's 79,274$. Remember that in GR there is free healthcare and free education. That's why life expectancy is still much greater than in USA. So it's still a first world country, with first world problems. Greece didn't face homelessness, illiteracy, low life expectancy which are typical problems for developing countries.

What do you think it would happen if there was no tax evasion? Our government would just spend more in welfare, people would get their pensions even earlier and even bigger pension until we reached exactly the same debt. It would have changed nothing. Because populism is the problem.
1
@QT5656 I'm not american so IRS can't do anything. But noticing that you can't tax your way to prosperity isn't equal to normalizing tax evasion. The fact that northern Europeans pay their taxes and Greeks don't is based on the fact that northern Europe spends money wisely and Greece doesn't. In Greece tax collectors are the most corrupt and aren't even punished for that. Public servants is extremely difficult to get fired even when they are caught in the act, and the NEVER get fired when they under perform. It's way more complicated to solve a 200 year problem than you think.
1
They are ok because we are able to pay back the installments.
1
Maybe it was the day they receive their pensions. Old people tend to do that. Otherwise there is no reason to even go to the bank. Even my dad, 71, learned how to pay his bills online.
1
Printing Euro without EU's approval? Yeah, seems pretty criminal and the money would be considered counterfeit.
1
Europe officially and publicly is giving tons of money to Turkey to keep the muslim refugees. After all, it's a muslim country. But muslim refugees don't want that.
1
@Higgins-db6oy I've seen surveys that greeks work more hours on average than Germans. That means that they aren't lazy. If you look at productivity, you'll see it's low. So could it be that they have too much bureaucracy? Could it be that they have small businesses that don't allow them to have specialization -> greated productivity? In any case, things usually are more complicated than "lazy greeks". That's why thoughts like "lazy greeks" should be avoided, because they don't describe the real problem, and they don't offer solutions. These are LAZY thoughts for people who don't know better.
1
It also gave the word demagogue to the world.
1
Thank you for your simplistic opinion. You (personally) get more from your state than you give back to your community, anyway. You can't screw or help anyone at this moment. Once you start to carry your own weight, you might feel the need to learn more about the complexity of finance and life in general. Something that people who actually pay taxes in northern countries know already.
1
@geisterfahreruberholer2171 1. I don't understand. Who has a masters degree in macro-economics? And who is the peasant? 2. "n a normal world we export and shouldnt care about your budget" I don't know what made you think I disagree. 3. "There is not a single Greek who said "thank you"" I have. And around 40% of Greeks, but to the ones who actually helped. Not to a kid with an obvious attitude problem.
1
@geisterfahreruberholer2171 "while we need the money for us?" Oh, and you said you have masters in macroeconomics? !??! Interesting. "Who and when 40% There was noone. Did you watch the video? You voted people who... " So you watched a video and you reached the conclusion that when there is a new government, it receives 100% of the votes. Even more interesting than your 1st argument. "Sick and tired of your arrogance." Say that again! Preferably in front of a mirror.
1
@geisterfahreruberholer2171 Good! It's better you don't reply. At least wait until you get a job. Life is different when you don't have your parents to pay for everything. Don't worry, I won't waste "your" money because you don't have any.
1
The main problem is that stupid and ignorant people vote for the government. And they vote exactly the ones who promise to "give more". I really don't have a solution to this problem.
1
@kiriya02 It's pretty mainstream for Greeks too. It's 38% of greeks, (official number) who believe it was our fault. It's not exactly majority, but not unimportant either.
1
The whole GR was a nutcase back then. But after that I noticed that other countries who faced difficulties turned to populism and plain stupidity as well.
1
@Nick_G. Πες μας τι να ψηφίσουμε όμως να μην την ξαναπατήσουμε.
1
@Nick_G. More offenses! Well I hope that by the time you get old enough to vote, you will be able to be somewhat more civilized. Bullying isn't the way to process issues honey.
1
Not even close. Totally different mentality.
