  18. My father's artillery Regiment first saw action at the Second Battle of Alamein, where it shelled German positions in support of 51st Highland Division's attack. Should I live in constant fear that I might receive a letter from the German government demanding compensation be paid to any German family whose forebears were killed, or at least distressed, when dad's 4.5 inch shells landed amongst them?

The one where poorly paid individuals work hard for long hours, or the one where Chief Executives of NHS Trusts, on six figure salaries, appear briefly when something particularly horrifying goes wrong, gave at the camera in that peculiarly dead-eyed manner they have, say 'lessons have been learned' and return to their box-ticking in their plush offices?
