  1. You know, just as that interview finished, for the first time in my life I truly felt 'blimey, I'm really glad to be in my generation!' (which is coming up to yours). We always had tv but my parents wouldn't allow us to watch any channel with ads. Probably for the same reasons as we should be restricting social media for children and young people now. We need to devalue the media and restrict engagement with it.

  14. Nope, guys. I think you've got it wrong about mental health treatment! Women too want to feel competent, powerful etc just like men do. We just take /pretend to take the kwikfix tablets because we don't want to upset the doctor. And the 6 sessions of talk therapy with a professional empathiser is probably just as ineffective for us as for you. Actually, let's be frank, the NHS has got it wrong for all of us!!

  15. Chances are that I'm quite a bit older than you. This interview didn't make me question anything. Instead, it was a hopeful intimation of a return to sanity that our western culture once enjoyed and which I grew up in. Mary is kindly non-judgemental and presents the case gently and skilfully. Even since a teenager, when 'women's lib' was in full flight, I knew it was bad for all of us. Indeed, it liberated men. But in so many ways that could fill a PhD thesis, it imposed new shackles on women and undermined, even destroyed very many children's chances of growing up with healthy nurturing, healthy self-esteem, clarity of goals and so on etc.

Police and women victims of SA, stalking, harassment etc etc subject to poor treatment and secondary victimisation; NHS: 2022 UK gov survey found that 84% of all women report being routinely treated poorly by male AND female GPs with frequent horrendous results (gov put a trigger warning on 10s of thousands of narratives). Average of 1 male GP a week is struck off for SA on women patients. Hundreds of thousands of women cheated out of their rightful pensions by gov on top of the fact that women are poorer than men in older life, women are still expected to do most family caring work with no pay and lose paid time and benefits/NI etc from work; ... This is tip of the iceberg of the mountain of covert discrimination.

  18. How do we know those science shows are right? And it's not true to say that 'the stars only move a little bit' - they only move a fraction in our perception. Over billions of years they've been racing around like crazy, just as the earth goes round the sun at 67,000mph, and whizzes around the galaxy at about 500,000 mph. Thing is, we're mostly all moving together so it only appears that things are static.

  20. Seems to me that Brendan is quite out of touch or naive. People increasingly look to the government for help when things go pear shaped because : - We are taxed at the highest rate in 70 years....the gvt is stealing from us and we know it. People are simply asking for their own money back. - The whole 'community support' thing hasn't actually been a thing since at least WW2 and it was rather a contrived notion even back then. Successive gvt policies have continuously eroded community solidarity and family functionality. Community solidarity brings down gvts. Ask Lech Walensa. - Probably all public services are now deeply dysfunctional. They're no longer there to help people when their problems are small and easily fixed. We know that gvts have done this to us through bad management, and favouring their own pet priorities . Expecting gvt to do something in times of dire need is merely asking them to clean up their mess, holding them to account. - The 'nanny state' has been a huge long power grab by successive gvts. People didn't just give up their liberties for benefits increases of £2.83 a week or free school meals that they were able to afford 5 years ago. Their liberties (including the right to earn a decent wage) have been pulled from them. Gvts have instead subsidised huge corporations to employ people. It's not just ordinary people with their hands out. Business gets far bigger welfare cheques than we do. - Gvts since 97 have increasingly lied to us and nudged us relentlessly. People know this, intuitively they know they're being gaslit even if they don't have the words for it. Please Brendan, hold and express whatever opinions you want, but do not blame the casualties of these govts, do not underestimate ordinary people's ability to understand what's been going on , and do not misunderstand their ways of acquiring recompense and restoration.

  37. Yes! When I was a child growing up in the 60s-70s we just didn't think - or overthink rather - about ourselves much, if at all. We just got on with life. Then along came the feminists and effed everyone up. Before the feminists there was room for all sorts of diversity, there isn't now. You have to identify as something and join their cult. I've always been 100% happy to be a woman, but in my own way - that was the norm when I grew up, you were expected to be yourself. Differences weren't pathologised. I'm ecstatic to be a mum and now a granny. Curse the feminists!!

Cancel culture is metaphorically about eradicating (k ! ll!ng) people. It's only a short hop from there to actually carrying out that action. As every dictatorship's henchmen have demonstrated.   43.  @grannyannie2948  Yes, it was shocking that the terror brought out the fascist in so many people. A close friend of 30 yrs went hysterical on me for declining the vaxx. It badly dented our friendship which has never really recovered. Grannyannie, how do you see those formerly censorious and hateful people who are still around us now? I look at people in quite a different way. Thinking about it, I'm far more inclined to trust un-vaxxed people than vaxxed people - because generally, the former think for themselves, are more honest with themselves, are courageous to the extent of putting their own lives on the line (given we were told we'd probably die without the vaxx): these are people I want around me when tshtf. I've 99% lost trust in the pharma/gov/medical complex.

  47.  @skhebaa3539  Still, those who go overseas and don't come back are the highest achievers that your country (like others which are similarly pillaged) needs to progress. It's good for them to have such opportunities (which actually sound better than those available to many poor young Brits), but all that talent is lost to your country. If that were happening in the UK there would be an outcry. China is full of smart young, well-educated people so I suppose they don't have to retain foreigners. The UK doesn't invest as much , pro rata, in education or health nowadays. It all vexes me, especially that your most able young people are used to fill some of the UK's deficits because of poor policy decisions of UK governments.

  50.  @mamameme4887  It occurred to me reading your comment that religion is so denigrated now but it did provide a movement for those who wanted to learn and practice kindness and good intentions. The huge plus is that it really wasn't as horribly restrictive and exclusive as this wo ke one.
