  1. I would like to make two comments: 1. All the people in Newmarch Anglicare should be removed and relocated to a hospital for observation and daily testing, if they are deemed negative. Positive patients should not be kept there at all, as this facility is not a highly contagious disease facility. 2. Most test kits come from overseas, but there are none which are 100% accurate. There are many false negatives, thus testing should not be restricted to a one off in these facilities. Most of these tests are only 70 to 80% accurate. The result of lacking in ongoing testing testing can be devastating.

  2. In general, a lot of Australian governments were proactive in their actions and restrictions when the virus first entered Australia. However, with the lower numbers then expected, they moved to being reactive, and way too slowly, thus now being in the situation where the virus appears to be well entrenched in Melbourne. I know it is painful, however i seriously suggest, that the most strongest restrictions such as stage 4 be introduced, to stop the virus in its tracks. A period of 4 weeks would see a substantial turnaround of current events. Anything other then this action, will lead to repetition after repetition of shutdowns, at a much higher cost to the state's and individual business economies. Additionally, we will see large increases in the death toll, two to three weeks after we see these large numbers.

  3. When is a Federal Minister, going to shut his mouth up in respect to state affairs, especially when his own reputation is at question? It is bad enough we have overseas interference, without involving our own federal politicians! Perhaps Queensland and the Northern Territory could buy the airline together. Hmm, now what to call it?

  13.  Daisy Unchained  supermarkets will remain open, at all stages including stage 4. Unfortunately, people do not quarantine and/or still go to work, thus spreading the virus. I would also introduce the threat of involuntary manslaughter for those people knowingly spreading the virus, causing death. This would be a deterrent. About 1 in 4 people, in the knowledge that they have the virus, do not self isolate, until cleared of the virus. Enforcement is the only option!

The employer should have a list of employees either tested and positive, or awaiting results, or should have access to a database to be satisfied their employees are cleared to work.. Also temperature testing should be mandatory in the workplace.

  16. Even China is not banning it's citizens from travelling overseas. I live in China, but should i return to Australia, would have undue to difficulty in leaving Australia, but would not have any difficulty to re-enter China. So it has little to do with being a democracy! Rules for entering Australia are already in place for arrivals from overseas, in terms of quarantine. Appropriate testing, prior to any departure for people wishing to depart Australia could be put in place, to view this country as taking some responsibility, and not being a spreader of this pandemic, unlike some other countries.

  19.  @ninob5155  A nursing home is not up to the standard of a contagious disease facility, nor are the staff equipped mentally or physically to deal with these issues of a contagious disease. They are basically carers under the supervision of medical staff who are also unlikely to be well enough trained to deal with a pandemic. There is a big difference between a DON of a nursing home, and a DON of a critical care hospital.

Certainly from the many comments here, it is apparent that many people don't think this virus is a serious issue. NSW people have a real problem dealing with lockdowns, and should look at how Victorians dealt with it. A very poor effort, NSW, as you are holding this country back.

  23. I will remind the audience that this has been occurring for years with rockets from America and Russia, and as was the case, also Skylab. There are no control elements left as all fuel and power is eliminated so cannot be controlled. America does not allow China to be part of the international space station, because they do not want to share technology. However, it is inevitable that China will need to experiment (as America has done in the past) to develop their own technology. We are one people on one earth, and so far as space exploration is concerned, there should always be a way for all nations to work together, for all to benefit and to eliminate risk. Currently, the earths orbit is littered with satellites and other debris, most of which will one day return to earth, and all of it will return uncontrolled. So i am bemused by headlines such as the inclusion of the words "rogue" and "uncontrolled". All of this debris returns uncontrolled, and we always hope remnants land in our oceans.

  24. The difference with Japan is that they tried to hide from the virus due to the pending Olympic Games. Once it was deferred, the real extent of the infections was known. So Japan us not a good comparison. Nontheless, they need to continue the high levels of testing, to catch the virus early. Some shutdowns may be inevitable.

You buy the assets, take over leases and pay any goodwill, if there is any value there. The federal government is still a substantial stakeholder in QANTAS. There is little difference. The qld gov only wants part of a stake.

  36. Where there is a will, there is a way! Obviously there is no will in N.S.W. There are numerous actions that still could be or should have been taken. The first example may be to test whole communities, to go through a process of elimination, isolating those with the virus as they go. Draconian? Maybe, but if it is effective, who could argue with it? The priority is to STOP THE VIRUS SPREADING.

A nursing home is not the place to treat an infectious disease with underqualified staff and lack of facilities. It is a wonderful breeding ground, especially with the air conditioning spreading the virus throughout the building.
