If Russia was a good neighbor with no record of making mess in the neighborhood, there would be no need to apply for Nato membership in order to be safe. Putin wanst Ukraine. Ukraine had no chance to join Nato and had no will to join before 2014. Putin though non Nato Ukraine would be easy to overrun. That is all. Nato is an excuse. Russia has never been a friendly neighbor.

  6. I am Polish, We live next to Russia and I can tell you one thing for sure. Russia always feels "provoked" and Russia always needs excuses. Blaming my country for joining Nato is like blaming a victim for calling the police because she did not want to be abused anymore. If Putin does not like Nato at Russia's borders, he should really try and stop giving neighbors good reasons to join. Russia feels "provoked" just because we want to decide on our own about our own home.

It had no chance to join after 2014 because Nato does not let countries with unsolved bordes issues to join the pact. Besides it is not about Nato.Putin wants Ukraine and he could invade non Nato Ukraine only.

When was the last time Putin cared about diplomacy? Nobody forced Putin to invade his neighbor. He did it because he wanted to. He has always wanted Ukraine back.
