Yep. Muad'Dib - Little mouse.

You're going to get a lot of people telling you to read the book. And I'm one of them. You could probably get another video about the differences.

I don't know. Seeing Pedro Pascal beaten to death with a golf club might have a certain appeal to some.
55
@jonnyshanon2103 The Kinder Egg dude was scarier.
36
@SumDumGy Bet it didn't. My dad's classical education was much broader than I ever received and he would have been about the right age when this book came out.
33
"What if we took this great movie, hollowed it out and filled it with my much weaker story like a skin suit?"
33
Timelines, multiverses and dimensions (in fiction) never stand up to much scrutiny. You can get away with using them but if you start leaning too heavily on them, the shortcomings become ever more present.
33
@cbrreezzyy69 There was a big lull in the 70s which eventually gave way to the bonanza of the 80s. Everything old is new again.

In the books, it's suggested that this is a side-effect of the supernatural presence. Kids are disappearing at what should be an alarming rate. (Disclaimer, I haven't read "It" but I think it was alluded to in 112263)
29
It really was. I think what helped was that the show was so dense with stuff going on, the intro helped get you in the mood and ready for the experience you were about to have.
17
@CarnageJesterX It might help if you actually watched the review which it's clear from your comment you didn't.
16
Yeah, we don't need a "Fall Guy Cinematic Universe" either. One and done, please.
15
It's true. This man has no dick.
15
They could have had Grogu pop in from time to time too. Bringing in fresh content with the promise that you'll see more of the little guy along the way would have kept people interested. Just like a Skinner box.
12
It was a pretty bad move. I had not long read the books so I could piece it together but I knew many people for whom it was incomprehensible. It turned out there were bigger issues though.

Tesco Value Luxury Resort.

@xr6lad I'm only a little younger and we got a little Roman history but not much. I've probably learned more about it since I've been out of school to be honest. Though history was never my subject and I've forgotten much, I think "modern" ideas about teaching history were already coming to bear. I mostly remember getting a lot of stone/bronze age "life experience" type stuff.

Joker 2. It was the equivalent of Joker 2. With less music.

@Cyricist001 In the book, it's providing a service to the state. The point being to not exclude anyone who genuinely wants to attain that status. (Note that I'm not explicitly endorsing it, merely discussing how it works in the book). The book also presents that universal franchise already lead to disaster (which is beginning to look fairly realistic).
5
Last night, a Jedi saved my life.
4
@Cyricist001 I believe options like working as an orderly in a hospital were mentioned. The point being that citizenship was earned not given for nothing. Note that there were not really any penalties to not being a citizen other than not being able to vote.
4
@gamingforever9121 Yeah, it's a shame. I don't mind being presented with views that I disagree with but this seems lazy and dishonest to the book. It would probably have been fine as a stand-alone movie. Ah well, that's Hollywood.
4
New?
4
@viljamtheninja Not so much since the left came up with a different definition.
4
And, in fact, there were parts where they basically interpreted the books and they were some of the best stuff. Pure insanity.
3
@gamingforever9121 But Verhoeven claims he didn't even read the book which is a bit lame.
3
@gamingforever9121 I had to look up the correct spelling :D
3
@dirus3142 I don't mind that Verhoeven would make such a move. I also wouldn't mind that he would satirize the content of the book. That he made a movie supposedly based off the book and using its name but didn't make the effort to read the book or represent the nuances of the story is not good and probably precluded a faithful representation of the book being made (though I doubt Hollywood would do it justice anyway).
3
@orangedream267 I've seen it suggested that WWII was a turf war between national socialists and international socialists.
3
@Cyricist001 Well, it's just the premise for a sci-fi book so not worth delving into too deeply but the system was set up by military veterans after the collapse of the previous system so I guess the theory is they wouldn't vote for that kind of politician. That's not something I'm going to defend but it's taken as given for the purposes of the book. Also, as said, not being a citizen doesn't carry serious penalties so it's only the civically minded that would apply. Though we have corrupt politicians that have been in the military so I'm sure the cracks would show before too long.
3
@koberyan2880 I thought it was alright. It didn't really tread any new ground for me but I'm sure it was fresh for a lot of people and the bar is really low right now.
3
@justtrollinalong977 Definitely possibly to take irony too far.
3
1:10 I thought we were going to go with the "dude being thrown out of a window for his sensible suggestion" meme here.
3
@ItsMrAssholeToYou I heard "Forever War" was supposed to be a lefty answer to Starship Troopers and read it hoping to be challenged but found it mostly pedestrian.
3
@lordsathariel4384 Pretty sure KK was scarred by Lucas and Spielberg somehow.
3
We had better trick-or-treaters back in October.
3
Very nervous about it being about kids. I mean, look at Blues Brothers 2000. A completely different tone. Then again, I wasn't a huge fan of Ghostbusters 2 so whatever.
2
To me, the interesting thing is when you look at Western movies, they are completely stylized in their own ways. It may not be to the same degree (perhaps) but they use conventions we are used to and which are thus invisible to us. A couple of examples would be that people can handily be knocked unconscious without causing major brain damage and people get shot and no attempt is made to stop the bleeding or save their life in any way, they're just left to bleed out without further thought. Probably many others.
2
It doesn't really go into it very deeply though. Which is fine but it could be interesting subject matter.
2
Iron Fist had some good parts. If they'd have leaned into the titular character being a foil for the people around him, I think that could have been interesting. It would take some real talent to make that work though. That wouldn't have pleased genuine Iron Fist fans that much (and rightfully so).
2
@Cyricist001 Nobody is against people giving away their own wealth or property. It's the taking by force that libertarians take issue with.
2
@Cyricist001 Maybe step 1 is for the state to stop taking so much.
2
@Cyricist001 Maybe. That's another discussion though.
2
I felt it crossed the line but fell a bit short of being too egregious. If they had cut out the sta-puft BS, it would have been better.
2
@m_hicks12 Yeah. I know it sounds paranoid but it is beginning to feel like a systematic attack. Oh well, we'll just build newer and better franchises.
2
@sleptonitsundays9531 Then don't do that in the story. Some characters can handle that kind of deconstruction, others can't.
2
I love you, Drinker but I felt this show was dumb and his trademark monologues were painful and cringeworthy.
2
@piotrd.4850 Yes.I enjoyed those until he started letting other people write them.
2
The real question is what idiotic ideas Hollywood will take away from the success of this movie.
2
The only way to win is not to play.
