Makes sense. I was fairly sure this wasn't a feature of PNGs. Though I was hesitant to say it couldn't be as I have seen metadata induced weirdness with pictures before (usually image rotation being set in metadata but not honored by forum software).

I couldn't get Corel Draw 4 working on a recent version of Windows. I think it failed at 7 which was a pain. VMs work well though. I switched to Inkscape anyway.

Are we really that much in a minority that these manufacturers are not willing to cater to us? How about a swapable battery with the case back built-in? Then it can be made as big as anyone would want. Add a few screws if you really want to improve the water resistance.

The older people know that life is for living. They also know they have lived their life and probably wouldn't want to be responsible for others not being able to live theirs. There are worse things than being dead.
9
They might have removed the garbage cans because they're a potential place for bombs. They did it in the train stations in the UK when the IRA got more active.
9
It's not quite the right shape for large rolls but as someone else mentioned, stacks (folded) are also an option.
9
Can I keep this one, ma? It followed me home.
9
And never can.

From comments in this thread, it seems like some kind of "Right to repair alliance" might be a good idea with some kind of logo available for companies/products in compliance.
8
It has crept up over the years too. It used to be 10% then 15 then 20. I think there's something shady about that.
8
This is true. There is definitely less opportunity for comment on a well done repair.
8
@InfernosReaper There's supposed to be a "non-obvious" part to patents but the patent office is often not rigorous enough and leads stuff to be settled in the courts. Which has obvious issues.
8
I think he should consider a small shopfront for dealing with customers and then set up the actual work area in a cheaper warehouse somewhere not too far away.
8
Don't forget to carry a posy of flowers to defeat the foul odors.
8
Every now and then, companies start to come to the belief that they have captive customers. Then suddenly they find out they don't.
8
On the other hand, if you do want a word processor with source code, they are available and can be installed directly on your Windows system.
8
Some of that is the lens on the camera.

@HangerHangar There are lots of good mod on reddit. Though a lot of bad ones too. The issue is that the reddit admins don't have much incentive to police the bad mods so many subs are very toxic (or maybe I could say 2Xic).
7
@svampebob007 Yes, there should be plenty of money. Economies of scale mean that taxes should be cheaper in cities but they are staggeringly higher. This alone is a sign of massive corruption but when services are crappy as well...
7
It actually comes from the war as a way around wage controls, I believe. Either way, it's overdue for retirement.
7
@walrus-splice-renewable Ah, the Weinstein argument.
7
@CDWCAULDRON In theory, they should be able to use some parity to make SSDs more robust and have more warning of failure.
7
apk-mirror is also good for a lot of older versions of software. Of course, if it also uses web services, there's a good chance you're still screwed.
7
Yes. Watch out for yourself Louis. This person is likely to think that you're what's getting in the way now. Hopefully he's just a pest but sometimes they're willing to go further.
7
This guy seems borderline incompetent in the videos of his I've seen. Watching an expert share their knowledge is a joy. Watching him is an exercise in frustration. I hope he keeps his tweezers handy.
7
When they say they'll show you how to use it is when you pull out your Motorola Flare.
7
"I'm sorry, this was a zombie *event*, not an apocalypse"
7
A group of 20 something year old males? Yeah, probably counts as most justified demographic to not be worried.
7
@Aethelbeorn I might steal a handbag.
7
I heard about that. Apparently, you can 'downgrade' to the old price if you start to cancel your subscription. I can't believe this is legal.
7
The government wins until they see their receipts next year. All that infrastructure will still be there, requiring maintenance.
7
It sounds like it's less of a calibration and more simply a setting.
7
@Anonnonner9546 No. They're used anywhere. There's one at the end of my drive (for the road). There's no requirement to keep them current either (not that that excuses anything).
7
The start menu, click to focus, things becoming bloated and monolithic and dumbed down. You can still get a good, streamlined user experience which is why raspberry pi, android and chromebooks are a thing but the KISS mantra has been abandoned in many cases (KDE and systemd two major examples).

I only got shadowbanned :(

@mjc0961 Well said. Though I'm not sure that the removal of the headphone jack is about selling headphones from anyone other than Apple. There seems to be an obsession with how phones look when not in use and a total rejection of functional design. Honestly, I think some of these reviewers would be happier if they were handed a piece of clear, tempered glass with a company logo stamped on it.
6
Another thing you have to watch for with inkjets is that the nozzle clean function uses a significant amount of the ink in the cartridges. If you can, I recommend getting a cleaning kit which involves pushing cleaning fluid through the nozzles with a syringe. This saves precious ink and is less hard on the nozzles.
6
I visited about 12 years ago and it was OK. I don't see myself ever going back unless things change radically.
6
"I'm from the government and I'm here to help".
6
I've lived in cities and been to NYC. My assessment was that I could probably happily live and work there for about a year and that would be enough for me. If I was single, I might give it a go. I like my space though.
6
Louis, you said you nearly made some mistakes a few years ago and no doubt you have actually made real mistakes along the way too (as. no doubt. have we all). How would you feel if John Deere set up a team to look into the minutiae of your life to get you off of right to repair through legal persecution? What if something like that is what happened to you with the lien?
6
@maxworth4687 peaceably assemble
6
The battery getting old can cause crashes due to being unable to supply power so the manufacturers decided to slow the phones down to require less power. Side benefit that it makes your phone look shit next to a newer model when all you need is a new battery.
6
Knew it was coming. Didn't know it was here. Hopefully they'll reshelf some of the stuff they'd discontinued.
6
Louis, I took a look at the publicly available tax records for that "piece of shit" and it was quite interesting. I didn't understand it enough to make a comment and maybe somebody else could but it definitely looked like Shenanigans to me with the property trading hands frequently, often to holdings with very similar names.
6
There are chips with ant-tamper layers that will destroy the silicon. It's only a matter of time.
6
It's probably still a fancy hall-effect. The only angle to be interested in is the one between the keyboard and the screen.
6
@WutipongWongsakuldej DNS is hierarchical and decentralized. You don't need to store the whole thing (which is what used to be done and why DNS was invented).
6
@tiagotiagot Plotters used to be a lot more popular. There was even one for the C64. They were pretty cool in their own way.
6
@corrosivepyro There's a lot to complain about.
