The dread when the phone rang is why I gave up being a sysadmin. Only outmatched by the feeling of looking at the phone and seeing "15 missed calls".

Gotta have the luminol too.

This fantastic idea is going to lead to false negatives with the high beams and the drivers not bothering to dip them because they're paying for the car to do it.
6
Check out the shadowstats website. They aim for a more accurate report of inflation. There are tricks the government uses to underreport.
6
The key is that your workers are people just like you exchanging their time for money. They take direction from you but they are not your underlings.

This could be interesting. It seems quite often these days that when I go to reddit, subs have been closed due to lack of active moderation. So kicking out mods could cause a real issue for smaller subs. Even on bigger subs, there is a good chance that otherwise reasonable mods could end up being replaced by the bad, power-hungry ones (you know the type). Either way, that could be very short-sighted (but then, that's typical like when they edited users comments).

It seems like it's only if you move state. It still doesn't make a lot of sense tho.
6
@rossmanngroup You can fight it Louis but I think it's inevitable. :D "Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon 'em."
6
@PuffinPass In light of all that's gone on. Some suggest that he was got out of the way.
6
This might be one of those substitution things where they use a lower quality product instead and act like you're buying the same thing.
6
Quite happy with my Moto G7. Headphone jack and SD card. No removable battery, alas but the fast charging makes that a little better. By no means a premium phone but does everything I need and was easily rooted. Looks like they're sticking with the formula for newer models too.
5
Pine. But they're not for everyone yet.
5
@sonictech1000 Yep. That's a big issue for international interoperability too. Things are going backward.
5
Most people only expect a certain level of scuminess from businesses they are dealing with. It seems (some) gyms have decided that they're going to take advantage of that. It probably speaks to the business model of gyms which is where people join for aspirational reasons but then largely don't turn up.

@calebbarnhouse496 Many places are making it easier to carry than ever. The number of states with some form of constitutional carry is now up to 26.
5
@looksinfectious9642 Nothing wrong with taking a look. I visited several places I'd heard of when I visited New York. Going in (without business) would be a different thing and if I did, it wouldn't be to say more than "I've watched a lot of videos and just wanted to see it for myself" and wouldn't expect any more unless it was initiated by someone there. Just don't presume of the time and attention of others.

@rossmanngroup SMS integration was what differentiated them from the 100 other messaging apps out there. I might use such an app (I value encryption) but it's a harder sell for all the people who don't. My wife just asked me to disable it for her because she has no use for it anymore, for example. My contact list in Signal is now desultory. Metcalf's law is a thing. The real issue is that the protocol was not open and other people were not allowed to make compatible clients. No competition in the market of ideas.
5
@BrianG61UK Who knows what an investigation might turn up. Maybe someone dialing in over PPP from a caller ID number belonging to Apple.
5
The genie is out of the bottle on that one. Open source controllers are easily produced.
5
Karlyn Boysenko read through a study recently that said the biggest factor in coronavirus cases was public transport (not masks, lockdowns or social distancing). I suspect that shoving sick people into nursing homes is probably a factor too but I don't have the raw data on that.
5
Haha, yeah, blame America. Those European consumer protection laws didn't come about in a vacuum.
5
Tim Pool called Louis wrong when he brought this up in his podcast but I think Louis' source is more credible than Pool on this point.
5
I live in a small city in the south. Rents are just too high. The companies that stick around own the buildings. Everyone else works for the landlords effectively. I don't have a problem with landlords but they are feeding on peoples' dreams and savings and not charging what would give stable long-term businesses.
5
Between reliable lasers, photo printing services and full printing services, the real market for inkjets is definitely small and niche. I would say that a rule of thumb is that if you're buying a cheap one, you probably don't need it.
5
They won't though because then one will fall out and they'll lose it.
5
I think he was probably surprised because it seems for certain retail environments, that's considered standard operations. It's no wonder there's an opioid epidemic.
5
@chrispycryptic I pay for access. Sadly, a lot of the most vibrant stuff has been cannibalized by web forums. Also the quality of Google access to the archives they bought from dejanews has deteriorated horribly.
5
Sponsorblock already skips those.
5
@danceswithpaperhands6221 Possibly one of the FATs got messed up. There's a free tool that's very good if you only want to recover pictures, it's called Zero Assumption Recovery (no affiliation).
5
@Aliens308 YouTube got wise to that a while back and now serve the ad content from the same servers as the regular content.
5
Probably needs the rotor and at least the piston of the caliper (which realistically means the caliper) replaced though. Still no excuse. Pull one from stock and have it overnighted.
5
When I go to lowes with a list for a project, it's not uncommon for a third of the stuff to be out of stock.
5
Reminds me of when that guy was kinda following Louis around on his ride home.
5
Unless he's not getting paid for it, I'd say Louis counts as professional.
4
The only constant is change. Some of it was complete bullshit but no reason we shouldn't keep the good bits. A move to remote work (where possible) has been overdue for a decade.
4
@whathanul5798 Just because there are bigger businesses does not make a business a small business. Though it is somewhat arbitrary. It might be worth putting companies like Walmart in yet-another category but we have what we have.
4
reddit is a dumpster fire, r/twox is a tire fire in the dumpster fire. Your first instinct to scoll on by was the correct one.
4
The way I do things is to keep a relatively small SSD for boot and stuff I'm working on and a large spinning hard-drive for rarely used data. The SSD gets backed up to the spinning hard drive periodically. The spinning hard-drive gets backed up to an external drive. This isn't as good an option for a laptop for obvious reasons.
4
@chrism2279 Some places, they'll break your windows just for being a smartarse, sadly.
4
@Rob2 To be fair, NYC is a big hole in the ground already. (I kid).
4
@dark3031 This is a new one.
4
Do you think the concern over tik-tok which started rising several month ago was an astroturf prelude to this legislation?
4
I tried finding it a while back and no luck here either.
4
@rossmanngroup A decent bit narrower though. Not that it matters.
4
The editing is free, it's the export you pay for. Scammers.
4
@joevining2603 I prefer to go in person to the acrylic and glass table district.
4
@MrBearyMcBearface If they're as bad as it seems, that's a win/win.
4
I'll be interested if you would do a video coming back when a new company has moved in. Assuming they don't just tear the whole thing down. I'd be interested to see that too.
4
If creators make it easy for me to support them directly, I'll consider doing so. If they don't, that's on them. Best options are Paypal (where you can send money as a friend for free) or crypto.
4
@justsomeguy5470 Merchandise is good if you want it. If you don't, give them money direct (if you can) and buy a mug from dollar tree. I'm not really interested in most YouTubers merch though LTT is doing some interesting stuff with their screwdriver and backpack (Both a bit too pricey for me but not bad in concept).
