I managed to be a pilot scheme for wfh for a company in 2015. It worked pretty well but it was only one day a week and I ended up leaving anyway after a while. I like to hope I helped them be prepared for the covid stuff. What I think was pretty good was they gave me a video IP phone as a separate device, not an app on PC. This allowed for not interrupting my on-screen workflow as well as keeping my regular work number. It's also a nice reminder that you're working, not homing

@Baneling93 I was happy to take it from my commuting, clothing and food savings. Less stress too. Though they did get the increased productivity for free.
2
@wesleyswafford2462 You're not wrong but certainly Youtube policies have encouraged it and they've played fast and loose with contract law in a way that wouldn't be tolerated in more traditional industries.

"Stone walls do not a prison make, Nor iron bars a cage"
2
That must be one bright candle.
2
@LagrangePoint901 So you don't like the sunglasses?
2
I got a free ride, a decent degree and enjoyed my time but looking back, if I could have been mentored by someone about running a business instead, that would have been many times more valuable.
2
I wonder if this pushes the mods into employee status.
2
Heck, get 4 wheels from harbor freight and screw them straight to the bottom.
2
8:10 - Louis patient zero for Covid.
2
@stanimir4197 He put extra voltage too which could have turned it from a low-resistance short to a high-resistance. Should have used a known-bad part.
2
It's a clever strategy. If you ensure that the people who won't put up with being abused won't be your customers, you can abuse the ones who are left pretty much as much as you want.
2
@Wahinies Do you mean 5TB? 5GB is really low these days and more in the realms of mobile data limits.
2
@RandyXandar God forbid that a manufacturer of electric automobiles should face an engineering challenge.
2
It makes things look so dramatic though. Cycling down a knife edge at high speeds - cut to external shot - speed is pedestrian, drop-offs are mild. It's why everyone thought Louis was going so fast yesterday.
2
Wait, is the employee in hospital for covid or for vaccine reaction?
2
Portsmouth and Hampshire are copied from England anyway (as is New England, come to that)
2
And the bus full of nuns it clips on the way in.
2
Definitely not release quality.

Louis, I'm on your side in this but one question I have is whether Linus' response about the damage to the Mac could have been more as a response to your accusation of nickel and diming. Not so much to convince you to go but more as a defense. I haven't watched this video yet so maybe you address it. This wasn't the impression I got from your previous video but having read some more, it seems like this could be a possible scenario that could maybe soften the view of what Linus wrote a little. Not that I'm accusing you of misrepresenting him, it's just that often in these situations, it's more that someone gets the wrong end of the stick and it gets out of control from there. (I do think that Linus' previous behaviors leans toward your interpretation being more likely correct).
2
I think PJ's got a class-action about that recently.

Those prices for the parts on the battery pack sound like retail to me. I.e. if Tesla is selling the battery for that price, Tesla already has a nice profit. It doesn't sound like they're providing it at cost. Not that that's potentially not reasonable as well.
2
@snowfalleon7629 Well, the broken widow theory is really about making the breaking of windows not normal so that is kinda the point. Broken window theory is not uncontested but the most popular alternate theory is that it is mostly the increased presence of police which improves things. Which is fine as improved enforcement would also help with the trash issue.
2
You're a good man, Louis. This sounds like one of those deals where you're supposed to know the right palm to grease.
2
@CristiNeagu And he will soon be unvaxxed unless he gets the booster.
2
@aabaahgnaarbuulaajaadiijn744 It makes me wonder what other definitions are being changed that we don't know about.
2
Because of the reaction to covid,
2
Man, use FTPS at the very least.
2
@remyllebeau77 Fair. I was being charitable. I don't discount that what you suggest has a non-insignificant probability.
2
Most companies are somewhat greedy but they usually have to temper that with keeping the people who bring them revenue happy and keep increasing costs somewhat palatable. This smells like an act of desperation.
2
I think they have to open inward so they can't be blocked on the outside.
2
@@GH0STST4RSCR34M Actually yes. The upgrade could download when in signal but not offer to upgrade until the car was stopped.
2
Louis, I'd like to suggest you contact the manufacturer to get more info on the OSB vs plywood debate. They will have an interest in their product being used correctly.
2
The main reasons I can see would be to work with the kind of businesses that make their home there. That's going to be mostly financial and some big names. Other than that, I'd agree with you that other big cities are probably preferable and for most large industries, you're going to have a choice of a few different places.

@jochenstacker7448 Some of the BMW deal is that other companies upped their game even on the low-end models. My first car was a bottom-of-the-range ford from the 1970s. Door metal on the interior, no glove box (just a shelf) no power steering, no brakes, no stereo, AC not even a merest hint of a consideration. It didn't take much to be higher-end from there. Some of the features that make a car "luxury" these days are a bit risible and fall into the "conspicuous consumption" category IMO.
2
He could have grown his company and had all his money in SVB.
2
@dog-jk2hn They may not have changed their definition in their database but in making the entry that way, they definitely altered the definition to suit an agenda. People who are anti-vaccine probably oppose mandated but you can oppose mandates without being anti-vaccine. I may do some research to see what other dictionaries have said because there's more than just Merriam Webster out there. It would also be instructive to see their research since it seems there is expected to be more to creating a dictionary than just making shit up.
2
@xXxLolerTypxXx The tool battery system would be better if the batteries were compatible between brands.
2
@xXxLolerTypxXx Probably only a matter of time until they're serialized. You're taking a little bit of a chance with those adapters too, though it does seem they all use the same 10k style thermistor.
2
@xXxLolerTypxXx Yes, for sure. I actually couldn't find an adapter for my battery and tool so I designed and built my own. It needs a couple of more iterations though.
2
@xXxLolerTypxXx The dumb thing is, it's all the same cells inside, often even down to the same brand and model number.
2
Here's the thing about those barriers... Fire regulations mean that they have to be able to be defeated by pushing hard on them. You're right, they're not going to do shit.
2
Yeah, there is a degree to where stuff gets dressed at the end and some of the stuff you don't need to see gets hidden but this wasn't that.
2
@houghwhite411 The ancients had a phrase for this. It's "form over function".
2
One important thing: To my understanding (I am not a lawyer), downloading is not copyright infringement, only sharing is.
2
@Latsu15 I'll have you know I cook my frozen lasagna in the oven!
2
Well, noise is one of the biggest things that can make your life a misery quickly.
2
@SirReptitious Similar but different.
2
@ehsnils The epoxy blob is not beyond possibility.

Something doesn't add up here. Both in my experience and in what is being described. Firstly (though less relevantly), I can access the UK amazon site using my US account. I used that fact to buy a kindle for my UK friend. So setting up a second account with the same email address wouldn't seem to make sense (albeit I'm not saying it's impossible). Secondly, If you make two accounts with the same email address... When you join a kindle to your Amazon account using the kindle, you use the email and password. So if you have an account with the email address for the UK and an account with the email address for the US (say), how does the kindle know which to use? With that said, I'm not sure how this resolves with buying books from the various sites and buying books from the store on the kindle itself. Let's just say I have questions. Maybe there is geoblocking going on.
