I think if I move anywhere it will be either the Algarve in Portugal, or Buenos Aires in Argentina. The most likely scenario is Portugal followed by Argentina after obtaining citizenship in Portugal, but I will probably be in Argentina some of the year on a tourist visa, Uruguay also on a tourist visa, probably a residency permit in Paraguay and probably a residency permit in Mexico with a rotation. Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Colombia, and Brazil may end up in the mix some of the time too. Why Portugal first, because if operations are structured correctly, I could probably cut social security taxes in half, despite the higher topline rates in Portugal, and reduce the income tax by as much as 90% or more.

@chrisd7733 my understanding is that unless you were a native born citizen of one of the Ibero-American countries it does not impact the speed to citizenship in Spain. I don't know that I would pursue Argentine citizenship regardless because if they were to change the laws to take advantage of CRS to implement a citizenship based global tax which some Argentine politicians have discussed, you cannot renounce Argentine citizenship. I think Buenos Aires would be a place that I would want to spend time in with some regularity likely as a tourist, but honestly everything I have seen about the Algarve leads me to believe it is a place I would genuinely want to live and I think I could structure business affairs in a manner that would allow me to keep taxes to a very low amount while obtaining citizenship there and for a few years subsequent with the benefits of the NHR & Simplified Regime. Argentina would be somewhat harder to minimize taxes if one were to be resident there. After obtaining Portuguese citizenship I might want to pursue residency in Uruguay or Paraguay while visiting in Argentina, but it's not a place I would want to reside while maintaining a US passport because there is no totalization agreement and no DTA between the US & Argentina. Yes it takes a little longer to become Portuguese, but of the Tier A passports it's the one that you can get residency with the least money via the D7 and it is the one with the best tax minimisation with the right structuring.
