  1. Mexico is not a good place to become tax resident, but it's a nice place to be a tourist, or have physical residence part of the year, but not enough to become tax resident. Of course avoiding Mexican tax residency is more complicated than a simple days test, so not having many genuine ties to the country is also helpful. Rent, part of the year, don't buy for example.

  2. I had the same issue in Los Angeles, even the sketchiest parts of Los Angeles look no worse than the middle class suburban parts of LA. I mean it's a suburb in search of a city and it's hard to see where the good neighborhood ends and the bad neighborhood begins.
