What is interesting to me is that regardless of your political leanings, there are countries where Americans could go that are more in line with their purported political ideologies. More people speak English fluently in the Philippines than in the UK and it's policies are more in line with the thinking of a lot of people on the right wing in the US than the US because of its heavily Catholic influence, but of course the racism inherent in a lot of those people's thinking means they would never move to a country like that, and the same holds true from many Latin American countries whose Catholic roots influence policy more in line with their way of thinking. Of course they would need to learn Spanish, so they are unlikely to leave for those countries. On the left there are plenty of welcoming countries in the EU that have economic policies already in line with what Americans on the left want in place in the US. For either side continuing to have a political fight over issues that are well resolved in other countries already more in line with their thinking seems to me like a better use of time, but convincing people that doing what their ancestors did for the most part and moving to a country more to their liking is heresy. I understand that it involves some sacrifices that some people are not willing to make, but I don't feel any connection to the US that makes engaging in these political struggles seem worthwhile.
