@CoolGobyFish well until 2000 if you became a citizen of a country other than Sweden, you lost Swedish citizenship automatically. If you were born a dual citizen, you lost citizenship in Sweden at 21 if you were not choosing to be exclusively Swedish. There was a brief window people who lost Swedish citizenship could regain it in this scenario. Had I known then, ie in 2000, what I know now, I would have had my grandmother regain hers and claimed mine through her and my mother.

@CoolGobyFish my grandmother was born to Swedish parents in the US. She was born dual citizen & in 1944 lost Swedish citizenship by birth when she turned 21 while working in a US war factory. She also died 16 years ago, so...

@CoolGobyFish hell I can trace my lineage in Sweden back into the 1600s on both sides of my mother's family, but my grandma was born in Illinois and was Swedish until 21, but as I read the rules, she was not a citizen after she turned 21 in 1944 because she had never been to Sweden and did not choose to be Swedish, and because she did not file to have it restored, when dual citizenship was allowed during the brief window they allowed people to regain in it the early 2000s, there is no option.
