@stephenlight647 depends how poor you are. There is a level of poor where you do not have to file. Less than $500 in self-employment income.

@stephenlight647 and even renouncing won't eliminate taxes on pension income from the US. I don't even think renouncing while living in a tax treaty country will necessarily end a US tax obligation as a non-resident alien on that US sourced income from a pension. There are about forty of them and I haven't read them all, but most I have read reserve the right of the country that is the source of the pension to tax it.
