  2. The US is larger and less culturally homogenous than Switzerland as well as just having more crime in general. America is a more individualistic and liberty driven society compared to Switzerland which is more communal and less focused on individual libertys. So regardless if the country had guns or not its crime rate would still be much higher because of its cultural values. The USA prioritizes personal liberty above ALL ELSE thus is willing to put up with the consequences of that. ie inequality (which leads to crime) and less safety. As Benjamin Franklin so succinctly puts the idea "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety". It was never just outside invasion or internal insurrections that guns were meant to be used for in America, but also AGAINTS the American government ITSELF in the case that it turned tyrannical. Just like the country the USA fought so hard to break away from, Britain. After having experienced British tyranny for so long the founders made sure to design the country so that it would be neigh impossible for a tyrannical government to gain power in America in the first place. Thus the government telling civilians what to do with THEIR property and forcing them to participate in compulsory military service is fundamentally anti-american. Most guns in America ARE used to protect people. The Department of Justice has stated that there are approximately 1.5 MILLION defensive uses of fire arms in America PER YEAR. This FAR exceeds the amount of people harmed by guns which as you said are majoritively suicides anyway. And that 1.5 million includes cases where no one is even shot, just having the weapon drawn being enough to deter an attacker.

  3. Mandatory military service is something that goes against American values of "liberty above all else" which is why its not a thing in America. The militia in America wasn't meant to protect the government from the people but to protect the people from the government. The second amendment is is the right to keep and bear arms, not just the right to have a militia. Compared to Switzerland which is more culturally homogenous and more communal.

  4.  @jamaly77  That too. Things like social services don't work as well in America compared to smaller more culturally homogenous countries like Switzerland. America places THE MOST value on individual liberty, with all that it implies good and the bad. Thus asking people to take care of those who aren't taking care of themselves doesnt make logical sense and is less effective. Just looking at the differences in health and obesity rates in America compared to Switzerland its obvious that Switzerlands health services have MUCH less to worry about since its population is not only healthier but also less violent in general.

  8.  @olska9498  Because travel between states is so much easier than travel between countries any kind of social welfare wouldn't mean anything as it would immediately ge taken advantage of those outside of the state as they came flooding in. Not to mention federal income taxes. And the federal government doesn't let states discriminate or pick and choose who comes in.

  11.  @olska9498  Because those are states, still beholden to a central government instead of independent countries that can freely govern themselves. The power of the individual states DID use to be a lot more prevalent but over the years the federal government has gained more and more power compared to the states.

  13. This is a horribly dangerous line of thinking. The concept that responsibility comes before rights and can just be bestowed on whoever is deemed worthy at the time. Its completely backwards. The right comes FIRST AND FORMOST. Without the right there is no responsibility. Humans have natural rights that can not being infringed, rights that aren't given to you by someone and cant be taken away either. The right to arms is just the extension of the natural right to defend yourself. You wouldn't say that the responsibility of free speech comes before the actual right to free speech, so you cant say it for the right to protect yourself either.

It makes no sesne to be so heavily community centered in a country with so many people that's so large.

  22. I would guess its because the female reproductive system is much more delicate than the male reproductive system. The female reproductive system is more sensitive to changes it requires constant monthly changes of the structure of the reproductive. Where as compared to the male reproductive system that just continuously produces sperm all the time without stopping when the male reaches puberty. Alot less can go wrong when it comes to male reproductive system thus it's harder to interfere with. Over all a more females complicated system which means there are more ways to interfere with its processes.

Because you yourself have made some incorrect statements about some people in this very video. Should we not allow you to be able to speak?   31. I doubt a person such as elon musk of all people isnt aware of the potential issue of space debris. But even in the unlikely event this becomes a problem there will then become an entire industry dedicated to fixing it and making money off of it as well. All to often government intervention stifles progress, lets not repeat that mistake. Less focus on "the greater good" and more on the individual good is always nice, change starts at the individual level.

  43. Treaties and laws alone mean nothing if you cant back them up some how. There is no peace without being able to defend yourself. You have to be able to defend yourself or have someone else defend you. Diplomacy alone when not backed by anything means nothing, you need to be able to exert force to actually be taken serious. Hence why the US is the most powerful country right now.

Governments getting paid is what happens when people cede so much agency to governments. When you give such an institution so much power then yeah obviously people are going to leverage that power for themselves. But people are too lazy and just want the government to fix all their problems for them. 45k a yeah in the 70s was so much more money accounting for inflation. And quite frankly the "boomers" people are always complaining about just made better decisions monetarily than the consumeristic people of today, on top of having lower quality products during those times. People now days are paying for all these high quality things we have currently that didn't exist back then.

  50.  @duncan8437  health care in Sweden and Norway is not as good as the US and the countries have less people and they are healthier in general. The countries just aren't comparable.
