  24.  @pit9623  My parents became adults and were married during those times, and they relayed their experiences to me. My mother was from a very large family, even by German standards of that time. My relatives related similar experiences. Later in life I began reading books, generally by non-professional historians. Combined with the stuff from the mass media, I formed my own opinions, which are at odds with everything offered by the mass media and Hollywood.

If you were to read "Stalin's War" you'd understand the suffering and murder caused by collectivizing in the USSR. Whereas in Germany things improved tremendously with private industry the main employers.

  50.  @johnking6624  Soon after beginning Barbarossa Germany wound up with over 3 million prisoners of war from the USSR. Germany asked Stalin to help feed them, which that "great humarian" Stalin refused. Stalin considered Soviet POW as traitors and would not help them. The USSR had not signed the Geneva accord regarding the treatment of prisoners of war. Thus Germany decided, rightly or wrongly, to treat its USSR prisoners no different that German POW would be treated in USSR captivity. The top dogs of the USSR hierarchy treated their own citizens abysmally, murdering 20 to 40 million of them depending on whom to believe. No wonder German soldiers dreaded being imprisoned by those murderers.
