  7. No. Mass migration brings down wages, which controls inflation. Which intern keeps rates low and stops the housing market crashing. Economists are doing their job.

  10. A loaf of bread used to be around £1 before the lockdowns. It is now £1.80. By my simple calculations that is 80% inflation. My wages have barely changed.

  11. No. It stayed out of the Euro and kept control of its monetry policy, has a different voting system allowing the UK to form strong majorities, and had Thatcher style reforms in the 80s. The UK currently has the ability to always bounce back. Italy has none of our advantages.

  14. GB has recalibrated its trade, a workable government, kept control of its own interest rates, is highly innovative, has a bundance of natural resources, and has a very flexible labour market. It should be flying!!

  15. Both Government gilts and intrest rates are both on average still at historic lows. Maybe things are just returning to vaguely normal levels.

  22. A huge stock of affordable housing does exist. I live in a very wealthy county, but you can buy high-quality, terraced houses relatively cheaply. They are perfect for 1st time buyers or single people. 1/4 of mortgages are people earning less than £30000.

  23. ....and house price may of been £6000. But intrest rates were alot higher. My inlaws bought a house in the 80s, it took him 30 years to pay it off and his wife worked hard too.

  24. I would suggest hoarding all your money under a mattress so you have some form of control but everything is contactless/cashless nowadays!! Lets face it, it's only going to get worse.

  28. A handful of bankers ran ofc with all our money in 2008. The government borrowed billions to bail them out. Taxes have risen, the most productive are penalised and arguably our most lucrative sector has been nerfed. Also the boomers started business's and grew the economy. Look at all the amazing things we did in the 80s, 90s and 00s. Gen z and millennials just complain and vote labour. They are usless.

  29. They did break EU unity, the UK has been helping eastern EU nations with their fight against Russia, it has certainly helped our diplomatic cause. Germany and France are not popular in Eastern Europe.

  32. We moan a lot. That is why. Originally, the M25 was supposed to be 3 ring roads. We just about finished one. We planned cheap nuclear reactors similar to France. It never happened. And the big one is HS2, we wasted billions and got nothing!! You could even make the argument that we have too much democracy. Things are that bad!!

  36. we are simultaneously in the EU and out of the EU at the same time . We can also veto any law we don't like when it comes to Northern Ireland and make our own trade deals. It doesn't sound a bad agreement.

  37. ​ @Michael_from_EU_Germany The UK is an amazing position. Northern Ireland is part of the EU single market while the rest of the UK has completely left. We are both in and out at exactly the same time, While under the new windsor framework Westminster can veto any new EU laws passed in Northern Ireland it doesn't consent to. AND we can still pass new trade deals. I think the whole concept is great!!

Also I heard a very I interesting stat about uk mortgage lending. 1/4 of all mortgages are people earning less than £26000. Affordable housing does exist and clearly plenty of people on low earnings have managed to get on the housing ladder.

  49. They fracked extensively and so have a large source of cheap energy. We are not allowed to frack and are stuck buying gas from Europe at market value, and their is a war on. So they just have more disposable income. Also, our economy is geared around London and the financial services sector. And let's be honest, that's been a complete disaster since 2008. Taxes, too. The government has huge debts to pay back and a very large welfare state. Americans do not have a welfare state to maintain, so they get to keep more of their income, it the individual that creates wealth not the state. UK citizens are being f**ked from every angle.
