it did, EU produce flooded our markets and crashed UK farm prices. Sheep were worthless here and baby calfs were shot because they didn't have a market.
1
@corneliusantonius3108 yes, since we voted to leave farmers margins have increased. HUGELY. I use dairy farmers as an example, in 2016 farmers were paid 14p a litre. They are now being paid 50p.
1
@corneliusantonius3108 Dutch farmers are not efficient. They have tiny farmers that only make money because they are hugely subsidied by the EU. Dutch farmers do not work. My money was paying for that.
1
@corneliusantonius3108 The Dutch government are banning the majority of livestock farms because of the damage they are causing the environment. They can't be that good.
1
@CodeCancerLab probably because she is a bad farmer. The sheep price in 2015 was 381p/kg in 2021 it was 576p/kg. Thats a 66% increase since the Brexit vote.
1
@guleiro what does it matter? The price of her product has increased and she is making more money, someone is buying it and is willing to pay more money.
1
@guleiro OK in 2005 when we had access to the single market lamb prices were 250p/kg. In 2021 when we left lamb prices were 576p/kg. She is a sheep farmer. Her farm is more profitable outside the EU. Simple math. Please keep up. Can you see why she should of made money?
1
@kevhavard Lamb prices have been at a record high, she has all her family to help her. If she can't make money in the current climate something is very wrong.
1
@guleiro The only reason Dutch farmers are so efficient is because of the high use of nitrogen fertilisers. Holland is a small country. You take nitrogen out of the equation food production falls off a cliff.
1
@kevhavard They obviously do. If they didn't the prices wouldn't be so high would it? The prices are so high because demand is out stripping supply!!
1
@kevhavard Apparently 90% of exported lamb is still going the EU.
1
@guleiro If you stop using modern fertilisers it will inevitably cut food production. For a country such as Holland who replies on modern technology to produce food it is going to have a big impact, especially when EU food inflation is 18%.
1
@guleiro ?
1
@guleiro You are making no sense. I have given you the price per kilo of lamb. When we were in the EU in 2005 it was 250p/kg when we left it was 576p/kg. Exports to the EU since we left have increased, 90% of our exports still go to Europe.
1
@timmurphy5541 exactly our currency has devalued. That is exactly why our lamb is very competitively priced in Europe now.
1
@enigmatwist6548 in this case it does.
1
@timmurphy5541 I work with farmers. Certain sectors of the industry are making record profits.
1
really? As far as i can tell they are never in Parliament.
1
They have no stake in the system. Why vote Tory?
1
1lWasn't it Theresa May who originally signed the agreement? 2) And why are Sein fein and the EU single market more important than the DUP and Great Britain. The GFA requires balance, and the original protocol didn't provide that. 3)they didn't oppose the framework. Nearly all of them voted for it.
1
The issue is discipline. Instead of sticking together when things got tough, they ruthlessly replaced a leader who was elected by the membership and electorate with someone nobody wanted. How can you hold together a country when you can't even hold together your party? So why would anyone trust them again?
1
Cameron won a higher number of votes than Starmer. And he did win a majority
1
yet. he did exactly what he said he was going to do. Brexit. Lockdowns. The Ukraine. He was unique in that respect.
1
@scottyfive4319 We didn't want them either, yet here they appear to be.
1
@AzguardMike Boris and Cammeron could win elections!!
1
It means protestantism is a dying religion. Its the same in England, Catholics technically outnumber the protestants here too.
1
Based on all the international events Great Britain has recently held it really doesn't look like you are telling the truth. We are even holding euro vision. Someone clearly loves us.
1
it really isn't if you value eating food.
1
Triggering Article 16 isn't breaking international law. Why is it included in the protocol then?
1
Farage split the vote, yes. If you add Reform and the conservative vote, share together. The conservatives would have won the election.
1
@peterwoodhouse3239 Reform are just angry conservative voters. They are not a separate group. You add the two vote shares together, the conservatives would have won. Reforms 5 seats gave Starmer a huge majority.
1
Just what we need a man who was at the forefront of the invasion in Iraq and one of its unelected deputy governors and also wanted the UK to be signed upto a foreign court without any say in the laws. Boris was democratically elected. You need a lesson in democracy.
1
@fintonmainz7845 France is a complete mess, a unworkable system and opposition. It will be on the 6th Republic in know time.
1
@fintonmainz7845 France no longer works as a functioning democracy. The whole system needs rethinking.
1
Bidens annoying all his close allies. Israel, Saudi Arabia and Great Britain. Who on earth is advising him?
1
...Dispite what certain people think. Farage is very popular.
1
David Kelly Alistair?
1
Not pointing out while being in the EU it destroyed the UK agricultural market.
1
...yep, and the individual who commited the terrible crime accepts no responsibility?
1
Yes it was fair and square. But they won with only 33% of the vote share. That is awful and its never happened before. How did they manage it? Reform split the conservative vote.
1
It looks like we are going to war, and we may need an army ready to go. That is the sad reality. Starmer will probably have to follow the same policy.
1
Sein Fein collapsed the entire assembly for years due a failed energy subsidy scheme. You didn't seem to care then.
1
Starmer has had to adopt all the Tory nationalistic policies to get elected.
1
@Hail_To_The_King It's called consent.
1
The man who saved Europe and who broke a parliamentary deadlock, took on the EU and delivered Brexit.
1
No they didn't. They got 33% of the vote. That is terrible. I have never seen a government with such a small voter percentage before!! Corbyn was more electable. Why did they win with 33%? Reform split the vote!!
1
yes, the Ukraine war, we signed up to the CPTPP, the end of lockdowns, he won the Brexit argument, AUKUS. The list is actually quite long.
1
Austerity, Scottish independence, Brexit, covid, the war in Ukraine. Its an extensive list of large problems to solve...😮
1
Ashley made a very interesting point. Politics no longer matters. If the markets don't like them, they will just destroy them. Does our democracy even matter any more?
