  1. As a Norwegian, seeing Finland preparing for the worst, is just what I expected from the prepper-nation of the Nordics. Here in Norway we didn't think that was necessary anymore. But we were wrong.

  4. ​ @attilaabonyi8879  - Norway and Russia has always been at peace (Russia liberating north of Norway in WW2 is only time they have invaded). And we have had an ok relationship, even though Norway and Russia has a very different look on the world. Norway is unfortunately filled with very naive people. So one hoped for the best with Russia. At least now people feel fooled by them, and their violent behavior. Norway therefore wholeheartedly support Ukraine. But as a Norwegian, knowing that the Finnish people are a bigger buffer, is very nice. They are not as easily fooled as us.

  5. I heard Finland was producing 500.000 liters of vodka. Norway has bought in new Tractors. Denmark is getting a new load of washing machines, and Germany has ramped up tumble dryer production. I think this combination will be killer move on a potential future battlefield vs. Russia.

  13. NATO coordinates defense between nations. Meaning not all countries have all capabilities. Air force is something that can easily be moved around, and it is expensive. So Estonia would typically provide land-based resources, while other countries would help out with the air force.

  15. Russia doesn't have air superiority, too many anti-air weapons have made it into Ukraine. Russia has only a limited amount of long range conventional missiles, and those are often shot down by the AA systems as well. So the tried and true Grad rocket artillery has been the name of the game. Flatten land, then invade the rubble.

  19.  @peterc.1618  -yes, and that tiny (about 2-3) percent is now accounting for 1/3 of the government budget. Still after using that, the fund is growing with 6% a year. It is snowballing out of control. That's a good problem to have.

  22.  @dragani2330  - exactly. For example: Norway sent some old Leopard 2 A4 to Ukraine, bought new Leopard 2 A7+ instead. This is a great way to get rid of old equipment for cheap, no need for safe disposal.

  23. Germany must stop destabilizing Europe. Step 1. Get your energy policies in order. Cheap abundant energy is critical for any modern society, you don't depend on hostile and unstable nations for that. Step 2. Get your military in order. Learn what works in Ukraine. Step 3. Keep maintaining both so that it is up to date for the future.

  35. Unlike Russia, Ukraine doesn't need to station large amounts of forces on the liberated territory just to quell any uprisings and partisans. So while the must look out for counter-attacks, it is a smaller issue for Ukraine. Ukraine also has a much larger army than Russia now.

Oh well, Putin has managed to galvanize NATO, increase defense spending in Europe a lot, smash his army into Ukrainian mud, got Finland and Sweden to want to join NATO, get Russia to be the most sanctioned country in the world, while killing and wounding 100 000+ Russians and Ukrainians. Putins strategy is best strategy.

  38. Well, a lot of people think Americans were behind the Nord Stream 2 sabotage. But nobody things that Norway could be behind it, for some reason. Although Norway has all the means and knowledge to do it, and at the same time earns the most from it happening. I guess Norway's reputation as a "good guy" is too good.

  39.  @JohnJohn-bz1lq  - yes, NATO countries can continue to supply Ukraine for a very very long time, also with new weapons. It is just boosting NATO industry. As long as Russia isn't really taking Ukraine, it is a victory. And as of now they are stuck in the mud, going nowhere fast. So the question is, how long will Ukraine be willing to fight for their freedom? And how long will Russia be able to hide the true cost of war from their citizens.

  42. The state doesn't need to sell down all its assets. It can keep a minority share-holding as a passive owner. The trick is that the companies it owns must be run based on capitalism, and not nepotism or socialism.

  48. The economy of Norway and Germany could not be more different. What is good for Norway is bad for Germany, and vise versa. This is one of the main reasons Norway didn't join EU. So Norway is not an example for Germany to go for inspiration from.

  49. NATO is still not part of this conflict. NATO countries are sending some minor help and equipment to Ukraine, in order for Ukraine to crush Russia. NATO has just shy of a 1 billion people amongst its member states, the most powerful nations on earth, the richest nations earth, the most armed nations on earth, so yeah... Russia would not want to try taking on NATO, when they get bogged down a few kilometers over their own border.

  50. Well, both Denmark and Norway deployed troops to Afghanistan to honor their NATO article 5 commitment when USA got attacked on 9/11 and invoked the article.
