This will be very interesting to see, how hard will the Russians defend their ill-gotten gains. They have really nothing worth dying for there, so time will tell.
1
If it was illegal, you would go to jail and get deported. It is not illegal, its preferred immigration.
1
Russia attacked Ukraine in 2014 and again in 2022. So Russian imperialism and fascism will be stopped this time around.
1
Huh? NATO has no interest in Russian territory.
1
@rouz0 - true, from a selfish point of view, Norway (government) is indeed earning a lot on this war. But culturally Norwegians feels bad about that.
1
Well, that would be the case if the 'crazy left' won in Norway. But it was the 'responsible left' aka center - which is pretty much the same as the previous conservative government. Expect no change and status quo be upheld.
1
The whole point of NATO is that it will never actually be used. And if Russia hadn't attacked Ukraine, NATO would have been in a much weaker position today. Thanks to Putin, NATO is stronger than ever, and will continue to strengthen.
1
Not all men can lift the same amount of weight either.
1
Yeah... You probably could ask what Serbia or Libya thinks, or Afghans for that matter... Talk softly, but carry a big stick.
1
The Norwegian sovereign fund does not invest in oil companies. Not because of climate, but because it is already heavily dependent on the oil sector for its own income. So it is just pure economic motives behind it.
1
Russia has more than enough issues on its plate at the moment.
1
After 1 nuke in Germany, about 5000 would land in Russia. How would Russia look then?
1
It does, if they retreated back over the border to Russia.
1
Absolutely. Ukraine have had nukes before, give Ukraine 2 bombs for every one dropped by Russia. I guess that will stop the nuclear game very quickly.
1
Nope. They are just beaten on the battlefield.
1
@cyberfunk3793 - only in geography, not in mindset.
1
@rob5197 - USA is basically made up by European Settlers. So yes, USA and Europe have a lot in common. The entire society of US and Europe goes hand in hand for 2 centuries. American culture has reigned supreme since WW2. Russia on the other hand, has very little to do with (Western/Central) Europe, and was totally closed off until 1990s. And again it will be closed off for decades to come.
1
The cold war was never warm, and it was much more even than the current situation. So yeah, there is strength in numbers.
1
So Russia will nuke Russia then and kill many pro-Russian Ukrainians. I'm sure Russian media will be able to spin it, but it will be hard.
1
Don't get your hopes up on that one.
1
Nope, the West has grossly over-estimated Russia. But not as much as Russia has over-estimated Russia. Russia is now barely able to take some fields of mud a few kilometers from their own border, fighting one of Europes poorest countries, using WW1 tactics. Yeah, the only impressive part of Russian military, is its ability to have young men killed for nothing.
1
In Russian language a "fascist" is a person that is against Russian expansion of Russian territory.
1
If they really want to be Russian, they can just move over the border to Russia. Plenty of space there.
1
Buy Wagner, and do a coup in Belarus? With this timeline, why not?
1
Ukraine is already flat. Russia had its chance and blew it.
1
They have changed their ways. Wish Russia had as well.
1
Well, you are at least pretty far away from the action. You'll be fine.
1
Well, since it is diversified into thousands of companies world wide, the world would go broke first.
1
@jimwatchyyc - your reading comprehension needs improvement.
1
@Meoldson - and you have to ask NATO nicely to begin with, and they must all agree to it. Very different indeed.
1
America finally have a morally simple fight on their hands. And as a bonus, no American lives are being lost (except maybe a few volunteer fighters). Russia bad guy - Ukraine good guy. Simple and easy. There will be no limit to the support Ukraine will get.
1
Yeah, if this report was based on reality. But it fortunately it is not. "Climate change" is just in the Media. Normal people have real problems to contend with.
1
Oil is not the big thing for Norway anymore. It is all about natural gas exports now. (Thanks to Germany's failed energy policies). Norway now makes more money on oil + gas than it has ever done. And none of the major parties have any plans on stopping this. The 'climate change' was just big in the media, but the amount of voters having 'climate change' as the main driver is very low in Norway. 10 % tops. (Even though the report of course picked out two people). There will be no big changes in Norway in the coming years, 'status quo' is the name of the game. But now with another face at the top.
1
Ukraine estimates 60 000 dead Russians. So that's probably on the high end. 4-50 000 or so. And then 3 times that wounded (120-150 000). Russia desperately need more men with guns so no wonder they needed to do a "partial" draft.
1
There will be "severe consequences" according to NATO if Russia does use them. I very much doubt we are talking about a letter of protest in that case.
1
He is not the worst prime minister Norway has had, I'll give him that. Although he is pretty good at not answering questions or dodging them, if need be.
1
Welcome to the real world, where not everyone is the same, treated the same and not all rules apply the same. If you have powerful friends, you'll get ahead. If you have money, you get ahead. If you have both, the world is open for you. Make sure you have powerful friends, money or preferably both.
1
Germany did do hyperinflation, so we know how they handle it. They elected a dictator, which fixed their economy by militarizing, then they started the biggest war in human history.
1
Its a place were we dump useless politicians.
1
Well, its Putin that is reminding everyone about the fact that Russia has nukes for defense of "Russia".
1
Don't worry. The calls for a 'climate vote' is greatly exaggerated in the media (this report included). The main extreme 'green party' couldn't even get to the magic 4% barrier. The new government is just as pro 'oil and gas' as the previous one. And most Norwegians are perfectly happy with this. This new government is a 'status quo' government, and there will be no big changes to anything. Maybe painting the oil riggs green or something, but that would be it. Right now, income from gas exports are at an all time high, so the Sovereign Wealth fund will continue to grow and grow. A decade or two more, and the dividends of the fund can basically pay for all public expenses in Norway for ever.
1
Ukraine is not in NATO, that's why. NATO isn't fighting Russia. Ukraine is fighting Russia with some support from NATO (mostly old stuff, with some newish stuff added into the mix).
1
The trick in Norway is that there is pretty much no real difference between the "left" and the "right". It could easily have been one party. So there will be no major policy shift and everything will continue as before.
1
Eh, there is already NATO. Don't want EU + army.
1
@Diggnuts - NATO is a defensive alliance. It is not an army. Simple, eh?
