The cult of celebrity is a 20th century aberration caused by the ability of the mass media to manipulate images. Now the internet is laying bare that entertainers are what everyone knew they were for centuries - selfish, vapid, narcissists.

  28. What always strikes me is that the LOTR trilogy could only have been made in a very short window: a few years before, and there wouldn't have been the technology to make it work. A few years after, and we were into the age of woke, and it would have turned into "Rings of Power".

They don't know how privileged and spoiled they are, and think their petty whining deservers to be regarded as equivalent to some epic tale of heroism and endurance.

I don't think most people realize just what a hard road it used to be being a pro wrestler - they endured staggering levels of physical punishment, miserable pay, no job security, no benefits and near constant pain. Things are better now, but it's still not a path for anyone who doesn't really want it.

  48. The interesting part is that I think a female re-make could have worked. Had they had a tighter script, better casting, less of an agenda, more respect for the original, taken themselves less seriously and the material more seriously, and if the director could have refrained from declaring war on the fan-base - I can see potential in it. Also I know this is unsayable in current year, but it wouldn't have hurt if the cast were a bit better looking.
