This video is exactly why Jeff is my favorite Tech YouTuber. He doesn't just discuss estoeric tech that most of us will probably never use. He also discusses what's going in the world, how that relates to software development and does so in such a hilarious way. Also, the Metaverse is a textbook example of the sunk cost fallacy.

Friendship ended with Node and Deno. Now Bun is my best friend! 😂 Seriously, this explanation was REALLY good. Bun sounds amazing!

I always knew if I was lazy and waited long enough that Fireship would teach me about design patterns. 😂 Truly the best source for simplifying complex concepts.

This is the first non-AI video we've had in what feels like months! I hope we get Chef and Puppet videos too.
572
I know Fireship wanted to make this video an obvious April Fool's joke. But he could've easily been more subtle to the point where people would probably have believed it. 😂

Jeff: "You don't really hear about Web3 anymore." Me: "Thank goodness! I got tired of the constant marketing hype. 😂"

I did some CUDA programming assignments for my college Parallel Computing class. That course was the second hardest CS course I've ever taken (The hardest one is Compilers but that's in its own league). Human brains really weren't designed to think in parallel.

These front-end JS frameworks make me SO thankful I'm not a front-end developer. I can't imagine having to deal with a new JS framework coming out like every year.

Some of these truly speak to my soul as a software engineer (especially the "upgrading legacy app" and "one small change" scenarios) I've also encountered a variation of the last one where the issue I'm facing does have a Stack Overflow post but that post has NO answers. I can't tell you how many times I've run into that one. 😂
145
I didn't think you'd include the hiring freeze part at the end. Fireship always makes the funniest tech videos! The lesson here is to practice your tech interview skills only AFTER you've confirmed that the company isn't in a hiring freeze. 😂
144
Legit never knew Silicon Valley had its own bank until now. With the current economic climate, it was destined to fail though. 😂
143
Fireship is like that mad scientist you see in the movies. Always busy with one experiment after another. 😂
131
Being able to auto-create documentation from code is a HUGE win considering there's so much terrible documentation out there. Also, FIreship won't be obsolete until it can create tech videos with memes that make fun of JavaScript frameworks. 😂

Speaking of AI, I discovered a Chrome extension called "YouTube Digest" (or "YouTube ChatGPT summarization" in Firefox) that uses ChatGPT to summarize a YouTube video into very nice bullet points by analyzing the video's transcript. It did pretty well on this video but got a bit confused with the Tailwind CSS joke. 😂

There's a famous saying among software engineers which says "There are only two hard things in Computer Science: cache invalidation and naming things." The Twitter engineers certainly ran into the latter with those extremely long and verbose names. 😂

Just based on Jeff's video, Elixir looks like an improved version of Ruby with additional features plus bytecode compilation. Pretty cool to finally see Elixir since I hear about it all the time in job postings.
86
Capitalism's arch-nemesis has entered the zone. 😂
75
So these 100-second videos are now becoming ads themselves? Fireship has truly embraced his inner AI persona. 😂
70
I can't believe Jeff has covered so many topics that he's now entering the rabbit hole of messaging queues (pun fully intended) At least it's not another JS framework. 😂
57
The curse of rushed Friday deployments.
54
Why can't someone just create a JS framework that does all of this for us? This is what we really need! 😂
52
I'm amazed that the creators of OpenAI didn't consider this possibility. It's like the classic AI manipulation tactic in movies!
44
Congrats on the number 1 ranking! You absolutely deserve it 100%.
43
Never thought I'd hear the words "Piracy is not theft" from Fireship but here we are. 😂
38
This is the very first time I've ever seen Fireship covering anything related to video games. Also, Steam Deck is a legendary gaming system for emulators.
38
Wow, Solid looks like everything React should have been from the very beginning. I do wonder what the catch is though. There's always a drawback. 😂
37
JetBrains IDEs are easily THE best IDE tools. I've been using them for years in work and have always been satisfied. Interestingly enough, I've never used their refactoring feature though.
35
Fireship: "It looks so similar to another language I won't name." Also Fireship: "Here's a law that mentions that very language." 🤣
33
Glad to see Jeff back! Never thought I'd see the resurgence of AI news in this manner. The scariest part is that we may never learn the truth. There's so many rumors that even if one of them was true, we probably wouldn't believe it.
32
This just looks like adding more complexity because you have to define all of the steps for CoPilot Workspace. It's probably faster just to do the coding yourself. At least CoPilot just helped you with whatever task you were stuck on. That's way simpler than the above.
31
I always love it when Fireship makes videos on topics I will never ever care about (except HTMX because I do want to learn more about that). 🤣
30
Every time I see a code report on JS, I'm eternally thankful I don't work on JS. 😂
27
I really hope that AI is used to speed up localizing video games, especially ones in multiple languages. Now that's a terrific application! Also, I love the daily code report videos but Fireship should probably take a breather at some point. 😂
23
You know Fireship has made it as a YouTuber when 1/3rd of his video is a sponsor ad. 😂
20
Looks like we'll be getting a "MySQL in 100 seconds" video in the near future as well. 😂 Hoping we get a "Neon in 100 seconds" video too since it looks interesting.
20
Speaking as someone who learned Java, I actually do recommend beginners to learn it early on because it's so pervasive. But try your best not to work professionally as a Java developer. It's usually not a fun experience. If nothing else, learning Java will help you learn other programming languages and you'll appreciate the "less verbose" ones a lot more. 😂
18
I've missed hearing Fireship's hot takes. This one was especially spicy! 😂 VR always seemed massively overhyped to me.
16
Can you imagine building boilerplate code using voice commands? That's next-gen tech right there! 😂 Also, I absolutely love these AI Code Reports. Keep them up!
16
Fireship: "None of these companies are going to be firing their top engineers." Twitter: "Hold my beer, Fireship." 😂
15
When does Jeff find time to research all of these AI businesses? I've never even heard of most of these. 😂 Also, I kinda want to see ChatGPT write a movie script just to see if it's any good.
11
Please make more of these AI update videos. I really enjoy the content wrapped in Fireship's sarcastic tone. 😂 Also, the word "proompter" still makes me laugh so hard. 🤣
11
This is me but with Twitter. Literally the very definition of echo chamber. Most of my Reddit interactions have actually been pretty positive but I only use it when searching questions on Google.
11
I'm loving all of these non-AI videos from Fireship. Keep it up!
10
We're truly in the golden Fireship era!
10
Don't you know that PHP is the poor man's language? What do you think the first P stands for? 🤣 Also, I'm happy to see Ruby still going strong!
9
In my first software engineering job, I got to work a bit with Cassandra. Pretty interesting stuff but very complex for someone who just graduated college and only knew relational DBs.
8
Jeff: "JavaScript, an embarrassing toy language used exclusively to build things it's not supposed to" Me: "Now, THIS is my kind of Fireship video. 😂" Also, Jeff will only be cancelled if he makes a "JavaScript for the Lovers" video. Now that's one I definitely don't want to watch!
8
If anything, AI will be WAY more helpful than humans when it comes to HR stuff. Like maybe people could actually get a raise when they present a good case. 😂
8
Wouldn't the third step have been acquiring OpenAI to get a massive lead on the AI race? 😂 Also, get ready to see a TON of broken Python code in Excel spreadsheets in like a year's time. 🤣
8
Why doesn't Fireship just ask ChatGPT to come up with its own programming humor jokes? I'm sure it was trained on a giant Reddit dataset.
