Making me hungry......oh yeah, near dinnertime....

Wow, semiconductors to superconductors - what a difference....yet similar chemistry and physics are applied...and at 2:57 cryotrons are mentioned, and that newspaper headline reminds me so much of speculation about quantum computers today! (Called RSFQ now, thank you) Earlier, was trying to remember the word, "anisotropic", which applies to some of these materials ...

They have a gigantic collection of cold war bunkers.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunkers_in_Albania

That's an interesting thought....if one included all the different workstations, servers, laptops and smartphones it's packets went through, might be a few....

No, because it's support infrastructure (the body) has to run 24/7 and some of it is controlled by various feedback loops by the brain itself. There are various low energy modes that reduce energy consumption dramatically, for instance sleep, hibernation, anesthesia, etc. Unfortunately shutting the brain off completely tends to maximize entropy of the entire system...

My thoughts exactly about water...fabs (and other water intensive industries) in Arizona? Hopefully it'll be worth distilling and recycling the effluent, because water is going to be harder and harder to find...LOL, electrodialysis works "by the power of friendship"....are you testing to see if people are paying attention? But yeah, the industry is so valuable, they could practically desalinate seawater in the Gulf and pump it inland! (Some people are suggesting nuclear desalination, and that may end up being a reality someday)

Good grief, and I thought US politics was wild! Reminded me of that horrific ferry accident - yikes. - but I didn't know they had a MERS outbreak too. I liked Korea when I visited Busan years ago...hope they're doing OK now...cheers...

I geew up next to a Nike missile base - laughably retro now, but with all these missiles flying around these days, it wouldn't surprise me if some of them resembled the old Nike-X system.

"the sun don't shine on the same dog's butt every day..." LOL, gotta admit I've never heard that one before.... ;^=[} But this is a fantastic overview - I feel lucky to have experienced the last 40 years or so of that development, and of course before that got the obligatory 6th grade tour of the local Bell telephone exchange where we heard the merry clicks of giant rooms full of relays routing calls and watched a card sorting machine figure out that months bills in what, 1964? It's been a glorious journey, hasn't it?
